@@bp6421 What a cheap cop out. Who said anything about 'hate' on this video? You. The video shows how my generation treats one another. Not yours. You guys are the ones filled with contempt.
On a day like today my mom passed away from cancer 13 years ago, in all that time my dad has always remembered her, holding on to the good memories of her. The first time I watched this video I couldn´t help crying because its full of beauty. In the end I am sure my dad will find again his one true love.
I cannot watch this video without tearing up. It’s starts the second he opens the door. If the point of art is to move someone, then this video is a timeless masterpiece.
to me this video has a very profound message. solitude and loneliness/sadness are poor bedfellows. If you're down, depressed etc etc GET OUTSIDE. Make a conscious effort to find beauty in the commonplace and and everyday human interaction. You never know where it will lead.

This never ceases to move me. It deals with loss in a perfect world. From early on, we see one of the neighbors greet him while walking in the street. I see that the director did something absolutely fantastic by reversing the video, so it shows he is going up north rather than down south. Then we get into the café where the waiters embrace him with a beautiful, warm touch and give him a beautiful smile that feels so welcoming, before one of his friends shows up to join him. I'm thinking he must have lost his wife recently, and everyone is just showing him support and letting him know they are here for him. Then we see him being introduced to some people, whom I assume he didn't know or didn't know well, and they play some pool while smiling and joking with each other. After that, we see another perfect human act when a total stranger offers to give him a ride. They have some nice exchange, and he picks up the camera, which happened spontaneously, and starts shooting. The best part of this video is when they stop and walk up to the gazebo. He is asked to pose for the camera and smile; then we see that beautiful smile. But I think they wanted to convey something else in this video. How places and events jog our memory and sometimes seemingly transport us to a totally different time and place. And I think this is what the director wanted to say.
I think it was his last day. Maybe he knows it because of the appearance of the white horse. Look at him, he's enjoying the day with full senses. Takes a last photo and goes to sleep with the pillow in his arms. In the last scene you see two horses. Maybe it's him and his wife.(or carriers of their souls) Beautiful video and song. 💙 Can't stop watchin it.
1:32 this part always puts a smile on face! Seeing both the man and the golden retriever smiling is such a beautiful moment. Best scene in the music video. This song is just amazing, hear it almost everyday. 💙
@@victorfernandez1507 I recently broke off a long-term relationship and lots of memories have come up since about places we went, moments spent together and it feels as if those images are ways or maybe even opportunities of saying farewell to that person in both mind and heart. I feel that way about dreams. I will have a dream about the person, and when I wake up I am ready to say goodbye to the emotional baggage form the breakup or loss etc. Close the door so to speak.

This song gives me hope in 2020. We all long to hold onto the past but at some stage we need to find our new future. Hope, love and kindness and we will find our way.
This video has more depth than any film I've seen in decades. Incredibly emotionally resonant. Beautiful song and video. We're lucky to have The War On Drugs around in this day and age.
Here is my take on the video. For the sake of describing the narrative we will call the main character in the video Frankie since it’s the actor’s name. Anyways, Frankie is born and raised in a small town where everyone knows each other. So does a young and beautiful woman. Each in their own way they are loved and very well respected throughout the town. The woman had a specific passion for horses; perhaps even a white horse like at the start of the video. She was probably a horse trainer in her life. So Frankie and the woman fall in love and it’s simply like a fairy tale. The whole town loves it as Frankie and his lover are always the life of the party. He builds a beautiful home on the outskirts of town for them to grow old together and live out a happy life, but she gets very sick. It breaks the whole town’s heart but devastates Frankie. She passes away and he sinks into a depression and never leaves the house. He grows old, alone and sad. Then one morning he wakes up with no intention to leave the house or do anything. He is simply “HOLDING ON”, hence the name of the song. Then he sees it! A horse exactly like the one his lover was passionate about! He steps out of the house and feels her spirit around him, around the horse even! He sees the trail that may have been caused by the horse and decides to follow it! Which leads him to see everyone, he sees people he has not seen for years and everyone consoles him and he experiences a closure; especially at the gazeebo where his picture was taken. That night Frankie knows he doesn’t have to hold on anymore. Frankie doesn’t have to hold on to the pain, sorrow, regret and misery. He sleeps on HER said of the bed (compared to his side at the start of the video) and simply embraces the memories he had with her. He passes away in his sleep and joins her in the end. That is why you see TWO horses at the videos conclusion. They are together at last.
Spot on! At least with my take on it too. A lot of folks are not picking up on the "died in his sleep" aspect and I did not notice that he's on the wife's side of the bed at the end....
Seeing people get along and spend happy moments together is so uplifting. There's so much negativity surrounding us that watching this feels like a breath of fresh air
A friend of mine recorded some of this record in LA at his studio. He told me about them after it had been finished. I listened and my mind was shattered. They are a sound unto themselves. So original and haunting.
There's something strangely satisfying about the video. And the song compliments it perfectly. I've seen wonderful songs getting ruined by stupid music videos. But in this case, feels like they both were the perfect fit for each other!

Question: does anyone else think that it was his last day? He saw the white horse at the beginning, possibly representing his late wife, and he then lived that day to the fullest, finishing it off by placing the new photograph inside the frame of the old, before the video ends with two horses reunited?
Good call. It’s basically how I wish i could go ... Get a sign...go see the little things, and people, you love best over a day... Fall asleep, And move on.

I don't know why but when I listen to that music I feel like I return 30 years back in time to my childhood and it feels so good...
This song takes me back to the days when we felt the world under our feet. Nowadays, we just browse the world at our fingertips. Real shame.
The video fits the song perfectly.
Boy... this video is well conceived and executed. Very elegant match to the song underneath. It's one you might watch often... and not tire of it.
"Once I was alive and I could feel; I was holding onto you, and I redefined the way I looked at dawn inside of you". So powerful.
just checking in to make sure this song is still good. yep, yep it is.
And always will!
Glad to see someone has decided to make some great music again
I love, love this song.playing it on repeat all the way from Windhoek Namibia
He had a great day, he lived on for many years to come!
Once I was alive and I could feel
I was holding on to you
And I redefined the way I looked at dawn inside of you
I went down a crooked highway
Alone outside the line
I've been rejected, now the man has turned and I'm out of time
Ain't no way I'm gonna last
Hiding in the seams, I can't move the past
Feel like I'm about to crash
Riding on my line, I keep keeping on
Once we were apart and I could see red
Never trying to turn back time
Never meant to bring my pain to the front and into your life
Now I'm headed down a different road
Can we walk it side by side?
Is an old memory just another way of saying goodbye?
Ain't no way I'm gonna last
Hiding in the seams, I can't move the past
Feel like I'm about to crash
Riding the same line, I keep keeping on
And he never gonna change
He never gonna learn
I keep moving on the path, yeah
Holding on to mine
When you talk about the past
What are we talking of?
Did I let go too fast?
Was I holding on too long?
Ain't no truths from the past
As silent as the sea
And it holding on too long
But you're right in front of me
And I'm moving on a cast
Shadows on my seam
I keep moving with the changes, yeah
Ooh
Magic. Not everybody understands it.
Everything about this video is just perfect. This is what the world needs right now. Thank you The War on Drugs!

Heart or hope
Heart or hope
Heart or hope
Heart or hope
I believe you have a few mistakes here. Change the word "seams" to "scenes". And then listen to the line: Ain't no moon gonna cast shadow on my scenes.
That's what it sounds like to me.
Thanks a ton for posting the lyrics
Thanks for lyrics

I don't hear the "heart or hope" line, I wonder where that is buried in the song?
Thanks RADIODOBLENUEVE . The best radio rock in Lima- Peru.
This band is simply amazing ❤❤
Question: does anyone else think that it was his last day?
He saw the white horse at the beginning, possibly representing his late wife, and he then lived that day to the fullest, finishing it off by placing the new photograph inside the frame of the old, before the video ends with two horses reunited?
Absolutely agree! Also, the white horse could be a representation of the "Pale Horse" (Death) as well.
Yes, it was...beautiful song
Good call.
It’s basically how I wish i could go ...
Get a sign...go see the little things, and people, you love best over a day...
Fall asleep,
And move on.
I love this actor.
I believe every moment.
He was mourning his wife's passing, and this was the day he moved on.
Adam G & the rest of the band - these guys are making America great again 🙌🇬🇧❤️
I don't know why, but by the end of the song I was in tears. Beautiful :')
Everything is perfect in this video, I can't hold the tears
Best happy and sad band. Also I think it's best music to start your new life with traveling by car. It's happy because you have your precious life and sad because you lose so much people and happy moments which becomes memories, now it's make you sad.
Thats what I feel listening to it
This song is amazing...
This Just Makes Me Cry and Highly Spiritual Happy😢😂
Wow incredible! Couldn't have made a better video for the song
