I really hope with the next CBA contract, NBA players power is limited. It’s unfair if players can just sit out games to demand a trade and still get paid. They shouldn’t be paid if they are sitting out games to get traded. Being fined isn’t enough. The team just shouldn’t pay the player entirely. I hope we don’t get to many more Ben Simmons type situations because then the NBA will be uninteresting to watch.

    • @apolloskywalker633

Yea it’s gone overboard. NBA has been a players league since the 80’s+.
I understand, everyone should be paid what they’re worth. But they’re taking it too far now. Big contracts use to be earned with stellar play and consistency.
82 games season - (96 including the playoffs) and you’ll be lucky if a STAR player even plays 40-50 games the entire season.

Quite honestly player empowerment could totally destroy competitive balance. Teams like OKC and San Antonio wouldn't be able to compete if every time they drafted a really good player the player was allowed to force their way out. I think not a lot of people look at the owners who are content with just having a "name value" on their team to put butts in seats but actually have no intention of making moves that would make teams actually contend. Like what the 76ers did to AI when there were players available that could have made the 76ers go to the Finals again.
As long as you got owners that go "Why should I pay extra money when the guy we got already sells out arenas?" while the team goes nowhere. You should have players that can go "Nope, bump that, I want to play for a team and organization that's actually trying to win and willing to spend to even attempt to get the right players here.
Why do people gotta wait till they are in their mid 30s before they say "Well alright.. it's fine if Lillard left the Trailblazers now." why the heck should a player waste nearly a decade of their career for a team or FO that isn't even concerned with EVER contending for a Championship.
I guarantee if more first round picks gave their teams 4 years to turn their team into one that can make it into the 2nd or 3rd round of the Playoffs a LOT of teams you watched wallow for 10+ seasons will SOMEHOW find the money/resources to bring in actual talent that makes their team not be a first round hopeful/exit every season.
If every FO knew they had 4 years to become a contender or their rookie star is leaving.. watch how many teams SUDDENLY start figuring out how to run a team, knowing they can't depend on ticket sales off the back of this one player for a near decade before they are looking elsewhere.
Shaq left Orlando after 4 seasons and signed a max contract with the Lakers. BEST decision of his career. And the NBA THRIVED.

People talking about players sitting out and wasting the fans money, but teams have tanked entire seasons just to win the lottery.
The whole player empowerment thing stems from the organizations being able to get away with shit players can't. A player can be traded like its nothing, but a player forcing the trade is crazy? It wouldn't even be forced if they just had the option.
All the moves shroud how horrible soem of these organizations really are. Most of em are looking for quick ways to win instead of developing players or an actual winning culture. Bad owners and GMs across the map.

Honestly I think this drama by the end has shown almost the entirety of NBA media to have egg on their face. Zion is a quiet dude, so when he was quiet(while also being in a bad mental state the man said it himself, and focusing on healing injury’s) the NBA freaked the fuck out.
Honestly I think a lot of big name NBA writers and analysts should take this has a lesson to not overreact to a players silence, not everybody is a LeBron who will make some big announcement when the slightest things happen(no offense to Bron). The Pelicans are a team that doesn’t have shit talkers on them, the closest is Alvorado. Looking at there team they feel like the Shaq and Kobe Lakers with the Tim Duncan Spurs mindset, and that is fucking scary.
