100% disagree that Jahlil Okafor could have become a HOFer in the 80s or 90s. He can't rebound, is not athletic, can't defend the rim, and doesn't have a consistent mid range jumper. Every Allstar center in the 90s could do at least one of those things. Rik Smits is the closest to him in terms of lack of all around skills, but even Smits could hit consistently hit the mid range jumper and was better at defending the rim than Jahlil. Rik Smits could probably have averaged 20+ multiple times, but his lack of rebounding, mobility and rim protection kept him from getting star minutes. Jahlil would not get enough minutes, period.
the argument of Bagley not improving much in 3 years is the same argument you can say about Ben Simmons after 4 years. I actually believe the Kings stifled Bagley's growth (not like Philly doing any and everything to help Simmons improve as a player) and in turn that hurts him now since they can't get a team that is interested.

Jahlil Okafor's post up game was better suited for an earlier era for sure, but I also don't know if he could have been as good as hyped even back then because he's still too much of a liability on defense to have him in late in a close game.
That's it when you really think about it the thing that separates a college in high school all-star from them being an All-Star in the NBA is the playing time because if you have a good player in the game for like 30 minutes that is a big difference than playing 12 minutes the amount of good looks and shots assist that you could get in 30 minutes opposed to 12 minutes you can't expect the player to put up the same stats unless amount of time
Not gonna lie, Dennis is still a great player. Put him on a different, and I'm sure he'll produce. He's still young and raw, but nonetheless I'm impressed with his maturity not demanding teams with what he wants and only asked to be put on the G-league just so he could play more and hone his craft even though he'll earn less there. I hope he makes a comeback, better and stronger im the future.
I'm thinking Thon Maker was a lot older than his draft agree.. it was rumors surrounding Thon about his agree draft night saying he was really close to 27 years old pretending to be 19.. Bagley being punished in Sac Town.. he better off leaving to get a fresh start but will have a low contract extension.
I think Philly was literally the worst team for Okafor. At the time there were like 4 other bigs on the team when he got drafted one of which was Embiid. Definitely stunted his growth.
After reading that article about Rick Carlisle, DSJ gets a minor pass in my opinion. Coach really had it out for him and had given up on him about halfway through the season.
Ingram looked like a bust, he improved and man he is an all star caliber player now. He is a very good scorer stuck in a bad team situation. The Warriors look like the perfect spot for him
I really wonder if these poorly run franchises would benefit from a relegation/promotion system. They are gifted with the best youth players in the world and don't even develop them properly.
I’ve noticed that many teams who pass on talented guards or wing players in the draft for seemingly talented bigs end up paying the price down the road.
Agree. It's happening since the early 2000s with Wade etc. Heck, even with Bowie and MJ. It's very rare for a big man to charge a team a championship without one or two great reliable backcourt players ever since the Bill Russell era. Some teams still haven't gotten the memo I guess.
Ok I got it, Westbrook, Kemba, Smith Jr., Bol Bol and Tacko Fall all get traded to the Magic in the off-season. They run a three guard, two big lineup and let's see what transpires...
It takes alittle luck sometimes for these dudes to be great players what teams they go to etc. Thon Maker being drafted by the Spurs would be a match made in heaven. KG literally thought Thon was gonna be nice.
Luka Doncic was the worst thing to happen to DSJ. Absolutely destroyed his confidence after he thought the Mavs were going to be HIS team… going to NY and not producing immediately for a starved fan base while also being made of glass just set him up for failure. Dude really needs to head overseas to get his reps and confidence back. There’s no reason why he can’t be a solid backup.
I believe in Bag heavily… y’all are seeing it now that he’s getting PT after the coaching change; bro can still be really good… I’d love to see him be great 😤😤
I'm not too hard on anyone for getting draft predictions wrong. NBA teams scout these kids for a living and know more about these players than most of us fans , yet they get it wrong all of the time. For example to expose my own bad takes, I thought JabarI Parker and Andrew Wiggins would be sure future stars out of college. I rarely predict a high draft pick will be bad though, maybe I underestimate their ceilings but usually all of these prospects, even the busts have alot talent and are physically capable of being good, but alot of NBA success is based on mentality.
For ppl saying Bucks are at fault for Thon by not being patient do not follow the team at all Thon WANTED to leave because he wanted to go to a team where he would have a bigger role. Bucks loved him but he didnt want to be here anymore
Can we as a basketball community stop with the "Over ZION WILLIAMSON!" type responses? Zion has been good to great but let's chill. He has missed a LOT of time and has yet to even play in his 3rd season. Let's stop acting like he is an MVP when he has hardly played.
@@josegarcia9650 kinda the point of the video but I'd also disagree. He looks like a potential all star but not an MVP. Ja has been far and away the best player from Zion's class. Zion is closer to being another Greg Oden than the next Shaq.

Just commented the same thing haha. And there is talk they trading for Bagley.
My poor pistons 🤦🏻♂️
I grew up watching the going to work Pistons, it’s a travesty what this franchise has become since that era ended. Tom Gores is a joke as an owner
@@Loganbub I really think a lot of it is more of Detroit just not being a desirable place to live. A majority of these superstars wanna go to these nice places and not freeze in this cold and rundown area. Either that or a big name market to fuel their ego and checkbooks. Would explain why Cleveland is always bad too.
@@piggybankvillan I mean yeah you are right but you are telling me they couldn’t draft good talent either? Market that aren’t desirable destinations for players have to be good in the draft if they want to succeed.
@@Nick-sr4fe Oh no, the Pistons have historically been a pretty bad drafting team and any decent players they get end up leaving or getting traded because our terrible management.
Another great video.. been watching for awhile didn't know I wasn't subscribed... BUT I AM NOW...
Thon Maker will live up to the hype of an MVP level player if you send him to the Golden State Warriors.
That would be a great fit.
*Anthony Randolph would like a word
Notice that 3 players have all been on the pistons in the last couple of years and there is talk they should trade for Bagley 🤦🏻♂️
My poor pistons 😔
Jahlil Okafor's post up game was better suited for an earlier era for sure, but I also don't know if he could have been as good as hyped even back then because he's still too much of a liability on defense to have him in late in a close game.
Different era possibly different defence mindset
@@AD-ui6sk Maybe but being slow footed wouldn't help him even if he did care more.
Dennis Smith Jr was literally the definition of a guy who could only dunk.
Dennis Smith does play alot like Steve Francis. The issue is that guards with his playstyle aren't valuable in today's NBA.
Thon Maker having that promo clip “now lets do something great”. That felt like he is a bust already.
How can they fall off if they’ve never even been on ? 🤔
because of the hype surrounding them before they fall off completely. Read between the lines.
🤣 fr
If Thon Maker went to a team like the Rockets right now he would flourish
Dennis smith jr has been the best defending guard for a the blazers this year, not saying much but definitely is a average at least defender
uhh dennis smith has always been a decent defender, hes been good on defense for portland when he plays
11:31 do a video showing how many players stats improved or worsened by year 3
That's just it. Where such style of play were the norm and would've become stars in their own right
Korzemba acts like FDIC insurance for 250k isn't normal with all banks hahaha lol
Mike throwin shade with putting Bagley at #2. That’s where he was drafted don’t gotta remind me
Next video, All the people mike said would be stars but aren’t
I think Philly was literally the worst team for Okafor. At the time there were like 4 other bigs on the team when he got drafted one of which was Embiid. Definitely stunted his growth.
Finally, I've been waiting before I go to sleep. Lol. Btw I'm from Philippines.
After reading that article about Rick Carlisle, DSJ gets a minor pass in my opinion. Coach really had it out for him and had given up on him about halfway through the season.
Where’s the music mike??
Jabari Parker average 20+ pts in his season in Milwaukee. Just back to back Acl injuries hit him hard
I thought Dennis Smith Jr. was going to be in the mold of DWade and Spider Mitchell…damn, I F’d up that one…
Mavs fan here. I loved Dennis Smith. I really want to see him succeed. Maybe he is an example of a great G-League or Chinese league baller.
Thon Maker was HYPEEEE. But probably because of his height
Ingram looked like a bust, he improved and man he is an all star caliber player now. He is a very good scorer stuck in a bad team situation. The Warriors look like the perfect spot for him
Ingram is averaging 22/6/5. No way he's a bust but definitely not a star yet. Just an above average player in a bad team.
@@s_ame1135 Kobe Bryant in the 2010's was averaging 24/5/4. Kobe is now an above average player, okay.
@@adriiiii__6059 24/5/4 in 2010 is 30/7/7 right now so no.
I bet ur parents regret they should've took ur phone away 🤣😂
You can't name many guys who the warriors wouldn't be the perfect spot for tbh
Amazing content
I really wonder if these poorly run franchises would benefit from a relegation/promotion system. They are gifted with the best youth players in the world and don't even develop them properly.
Thon Maker MVP was the worst nba prediction of all time. Busttt
7:49 5.4 fould dude wanted to be the greatest fouler in the nba🙄😂😂😂
The Kings got Marvin Bagley locked up in Sacramento lmaoo.
Don’t act like we don’t remember your Thon Maker video Mike
Damn, 3 of these guys were eventually Detroit Pistons and there's Pistons writers who want them to trade for Bagley.
you were the only one saying anything about thon maker😂😂
Ok I got it, Westbrook, Kemba, Smith Jr., Bol Bol and Tacko Fall all get traded to the Magic in the off-season. They run a three guard, two big lineup and let's see what transpires...
I remember that John Wall post-surgery video. To be fair, I thought he was gonna carve up too
It takes alittle luck sometimes for these dudes to be great players what teams they go to etc.
Facts
Oh my god as a pistons fan I’m dead. Every one of these guys has been a Detroit Piston within the past couple years
Ben Simmons
Markelle Fultz
Zion Williamson
I believe in Bag heavily… y’all are seeing it now that he’s getting PT after the coaching change; bro can still be really good… I’d love to see him be great 😤😤
Thon maker out here looking like Prometheus from the Prometheus and bob sketch
I'm not too hard on anyone for getting draft predictions wrong. NBA teams scout these kids for a living and know more about these players than most of us fans , yet they get it wrong all of the time. For example to expose my own bad takes, I thought JabarI Parker and Andrew Wiggins would be sure future stars out of college. I rarely predict a high draft pick will be bad though, maybe I underestimate their ceilings but usually all of these prospects, even the busts have alot talent and are physically capable of being good, but alot of NBA success is based on mentality.
I feel Dennis stopped caring about basketball after his rookie season
Nah, better shooter, better form, better passing, better passing iq, better mid range, and improved his defense by alot.
Great Topic...thanks Mike....just what I was looking for!!!
Thanks Paul!
You forgot Nerlens Noel
For ppl saying Bucks are at fault for Thon by not being patient do not follow the team at all Thon WANTED to leave because he wanted to go to a team where he would have a bigger role. Bucks loved him but he didnt want to be here anymore
I would put Emanuel Mudiay in this list too , so much potential in him
Noah vonleh as well
Honestly, Once Luka took the Mavs from Dennis in his rookie year. Dennis truly stopped caring for a while.
How can they improve if they are only given short time to play.
bruh always has a 1 min ad in the middle of the vid man
It’s crazy to think that Lavar Ball really manifested two out of 3 sons to retain near generational wealth, that’s honestly near impossible.
Luka Doncic happened to DS Jr. 🤣🤭
Where is Ben Simmons in this video. Lol 😜 😆 🤣 😂
Bad joke, sry bud
Can we as a basketball community stop with the "Over ZION WILLIAMSON!" type responses? Zion has been good to great but let's chill. He has missed a LOT of time and has yet to even play in his 3rd season. Let's stop acting like he is an MVP when he has hardly played.
At least when he has played he looked like a potential MVP. These other dudes haven't even looked like potential professional basketball players yet.
@@josegarcia9650 kinda the point of the video but I'd also disagree. He looks like a potential all star but not an MVP. Ja has been far and away the best player from Zion's class. You can argue Zion had a better sophomore season but Ja is en route to being an All Star this year and winning MIP whereas Zion is heavily out of shape and injured once again. Zion is closer to being another Greg Oden than the next Shaq.
Zion will be on the video with Oden instead. Same but different but still the same.
You should do a draft and put them all in the 80 then, Dennis, thin, and Jalil would do better. Let’s see it!
Bagley can still turn things around he really got the talent compared to the other guys on this list i mean look at randle he flourishing in new york just give the man the minutes
It's the coaches they don't put them star players the number one drafts that they pick in games they don't give them the playing time that these guys are used to getting once you being a game for the whole first quarter you warmed up you ready to go second and third quarter you can go off and really show why they was picked at the number that they was picked if you don't allow them to play the same way they are playing before they are drafted they're not going to get the same outcome or a better outcome like Dennis Smith Jr he went back to the g League for playing time if you don't get playing time you don't get stats point blank simple
Dunno if it does for anyone else but the 2017 draft seems so pivotal
Great vid💯
