The vast amount of transformation combinations, the different chao personalities, the amount of things they can learn at kindergarten, the fact that they can get sick. The amount of detail in sa2's chao garden is simply incredible.
I've been playing this game for almost 20 years and the only ones I've ever seen are cough and hiccups. And only 1 time each! When it happened it was truly a cybershell waving knuckles moment.
I remember when my sister was playing in the chao garden a few years back her favorite chao, a shadow chao with lime green instead of red stripes, "Pebbles" got a stomach ache and I put on my best acting and acted sad and said "Uh.. Olivia. That's not good." She looked at me worried sick and asked what was wrong and I told her that her Chaos life span just went from 5 years to maybe a third that. If she was lucky. I remember telling her that this is just how the process goes and it's something that happens to everyone at some point. Loss. It was 20 minutes later when I saw her saying goodbye to her little Pebbles all sad and kind of tearing up when I figured I'd kind of tell the truth. I told her that I found of that apparently the chao doctor might be able to save her Chao's life. She didn't even question it and scooped up Pebbles and rushed to the doctors. When she got the cure I convinced her was super rare to happen, she yelled as loud as I think she could, "YES! WOOOOO BABY!!" and was so relieved.... In hindsight this was very cruel but she understands the big picture now and just looks back on it as a funny story now to tell from time to time. She still plays with them years later :)

The closest would be -100 happiness with -100 bond with all characters. And the only cure/prevention is ongoing unconditional love and affection (which normally comes in the form of petting it about a bazillion times)

The doctor said he was coughing a lot and gave him some pills, but local residents sprayed my Chao with hand-wash and then ran for their lives. 😂 I don't know why they were scared, it's just a cough. Although I haven't left the garden in a few months, I have no clue what is happening down on earth. A virus? Anyways at least my Chao is better now. I feel blue though, I may have caught it.

The more I watch those videos, the more I become confident that SA2 is actually a complex Chao Garden simulator with a sloppy blue hedgehog platform side minigame.
Tbh I firmly believe that SEGA put more thought into the chao garden than any of the Sonic games afterwards for the most part. I mean look at how complex the chao garden is. It has genetics, breeding, rare chao, etc. And it’s only a side thing.
