I’ve had people throw coffee at me. Some lady tried jumping over the counter cause I got her order wrong (I was also just hired and had no idea what I was doing). I’ve had people racially attack me. My supervisors have talked down to me and my manager also would tell everyone my business so drama would start about that cause she would twist the story and make it worse. My coworkers were awesome I loved it. I had great customers for the majority of the time. I was released for reasons that weren’t even confirmed. I worked at multiple different stores to help my manager cause she decided to take on multiple stores at once because she wanted to become a DM. And then bashed me when I couldn’t work that day cause ya know my day off. I have a lot of different experiences from my coworkers to customers good and bad. Overall do I recommend people to work at Starbucks, no at least not in my area.

Fellow barista here - 5 years at Starbucks from 2008-2013. I 100% agree with what was said here. The condescending customers could make your day go from pretty good, to really bad in an instant. I worked in a store near the “rich” side of town where when people would leave me a 50 cent tip, they’d accompany it with, “maybe use it to go to college and get a REAL job.” I worked the opening shift (4am-12pm), and the morning customers are some of the worst. Excuse me ma’am/sir, “I haven’t had my caffeine yet” is not a valid reason to treat the barista (who holds the power to your caffeine in their hands) like shit…because you’re going to get decaf if you keep it up. Oh the creepy old men who would hit on you all day, or follow you to your car after your shift…not fun either.
BUT, some of the customers were SO NICE! I still remember some of their orders almost a decade later because sometimes it only takes the one person who treats you like a human being (and even cares more than you do about whether you’re doing okay or not) to make an extremely positive impact on your day.
Also the connection that you make with some of your coworkers? I have a few who still call me today, and we reminisce about the “good ol’ days at the bux.” Like you said, some extremely creative people. Some who have started their own businesses as well.
Best of wishes to you and your brand! ❤️

My favorite thing to say to those few customers that said crap like "go to college and get a real job" and or "go to college" was to just be sickly sweet and say "Oh thats actually really funny! I actually work here for the paycheck, BUT theyre also paying for me to get my bachelors :D" they never have anything to say back to that and its not like i was being rude either lmaooo

50% of your pay check in tips???? I'm soooo jealous!! I've worked in a café for the past 3 years and we are NOT allowed to accept tips from customers :( in many cases customers have asked to tip me for my good service and I have had to refuse as we can't take people's money as tips even when I feel like I personally deserve it (not trying to sound full of myself lol I just feel like I am a very hard worker and always give 100% even when I'm not feeling it)

I never imagined corporate people could look down on a barista because they don’t wear a suit 🤯
