Maybe I'm not the only one to notice a Brucknerian grandeur in this majestic piece. Those horns! I don't get the idea why Stenhammar didn't like this symphony. For me it's simply splendid.
No, you’re not the only one. The reason I’m listening to it is David Hurwitz mentioned it as an example of composers inspired by Bruckner. Subscribe to his TH-cam channel if you haven’t already. I highly recommend it. He takes a little getting used to, but it’s worth it. I hear a little Brahms in it too, almost taken from his 2nd Symphony.
Yes, I'm subscribed to his channel. I've enjoyed many of his videos. As for Stenhammar, you should listen to his 2nd Symphony, which could even be greater, and other of his works. He was a very fine composer. I love his string quartets. There is incredibly well-crafted music in them.

Fortunately, not too much inspired by Bruckner. Stenhammar was able to state his artistic aims without composing 1/30 minutes of meaningless overly self-important noise that goes nowhere.
