    A lot of people have trouble grasping the wide concept of *supernatural science fiction* since they are only accustomed to the usual tropes they understand. Perhaps it's also a lack of imagination. The world of Death Stranding makes sense (people who say that nobody understands it are merely afraid to say that they are too inapt to comprehend it's complexity) within it's own lore and worldbuilding that takes pages from re-imagined concepts like paleontology, sociology, the big bang theory, eschatology and anthropology. (These are well documented within the game via text, dialogue or exposition). I have to underline that this is of course not everyones cup of tea so it's bound to be divisive, but the other side of the coin is that it doesn't suffer from being derivative like most games do.
    Although, there are elements that aren't original in this game. The cat is a typical cat-bat that we've seen before, even the guitar is similar to what Noise Marines wield as a weapon in Warhammer 40k. And the doll is a wink at Mimir (God of War). An elephant in the room is a BB (bridge baby) being used as a tool that is kept in a jar. The (altered) BB merely serves as a conduit between life and death since it was born from a mother who didn't survive. How strange is this? A reminder: humans were being harvested to be used as batteries in The Matrix.
    They blue-ish tint is what we saw in the original game when Sam was in 'The Seem', a purgatory realm. The discoloration meaning he's not corporeal and and in between the world of living and dead. In real life this concept is known as *death fluorescence*

      pretty much. i played the first game and didn't read ALL the interviews. Even with that, I understand and know enough about the game's world to put stuff together a fair bit. I noticed the blue colour and the shimmering water caustics in the ship's interior and immediately figured that the ship they're in is probably travelling through the Seam and the water on the beach.
      But yeah, ofc there are a number of mysteries, but for those who pay attention and watch it a few times, they will start putting SOME stuff together.
      there is always gonna be weird and quirky stuff (living puppet. possibly someone's soul inside a sort of robot. the electric guitar weapon) but when the game comes out, even that will be explained. Plus I gleamed enough from the trailer to sort of piece together the rough premise of the game

      Have you typed this before, did research, or just improvised this comment? Because it is very well put together and explains these types of "surrealist" games very cleverly and puts it into perspective very well, thanks.

      @@Sellinglobs It's my own comment and I do copy paste some phrases that are relevant. Im just here to create context and break this dumb rhetoric that the game doesnt make sense, it deserves better. You could say this action derives from Metal Gear Solid 2 end dialogue where the AI states how the internet is a cesspool of drivel; half truths and lies getting repeated, multiplied and a 'truth' is born that lost it's true meaning (for later generations). It's especially relevant now that Kojima apparently is slowly working on his magnus opus. I suspect he will want to make a name in the movie industry next.

    • @Sellinglobs
      @Sellinglobs 4 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Thanks for your efforts - I honestly hate the trend where people react to things acting bewildered like "whaaaat" and "I want what he's smoking" and thinking looking confused is cool. Yes it doesn't make 'sense' as in 2+2=4 makes sense, but it isn't hard to understand that there is a lot of thought behind these works, so interesting@@bemindful924

    It's not more confusing if you played the first one lol. The lore of DS is kinda convoluted but the story is pretty simple.

    • @gottagowork
      @gottagowork 4 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Actually the story is very complex. It's just that most (all?) players don't fully get it. Not yet. Not without help from DS2. Which will open new mystery threads that remain unanswered. Why? Because most players don't get the full set of "Lucy's interviews", and those who do don't get the implications. In the end reveals I've heard players go "Did I just repatriate?" or "Why do I start in the Seam?" only to witness Amelie *make* you a repatriate (but by installing doll tech) *after* the fact, completely missing what it means. There are tons of well hidden clues throughout the game that supports this new emerging narrative, but you're not equipped to spot them without this info. Paraphrased from a 4th wall breaking moment in the game: "...to connect the dots, you need perspective. You need time".

    There are two types of people in this world, those who did not like Beethoven and those who liked it, those who were against Einstein and those who were in favor and those who do not like Kojima and those who do. Everyone will know what side of the story is when a genius appears.

  • @gottagowork

    Should definitely watch the trailers for the original Death Stranding game. If playing the original, during the start you'll go "what the hell am I playing", "this is insanely confusing", and/or "am I on drugs or something?" - I've heard them all. In the end though, all of them be like "omg, it all makes sense now". The ending, while open to interpretation, is a highly rewarding experience. I wouldn't have a go at DS2 without doing DS1 first.
    It is a very complex story, and telling it through metaphors isn't making it any easier to understand. So it's very demanding for the player to "get a grasp on the story", and being Kafkaesque in its delivery makes the game not suitable for everyone. The game is an absolute masterpiece, but only if you "get it". The brilliance is in the writing; players have a highly conclusive and rewarding ending, and yet they don't have a grasp on the third unpresented mystery of the game (the mini reveal in the end post real credit is part of it) that changes everything.
    If you're an impatient player who only do action games and/or are constantly distracted by chat, I can't recommend this game. If still on the fence for this (DS1) chill and slow paced game, go watch YongYea's spoiler free review of it.

    When you have little to no knowledge about a game sequel its best to either play the first game or watch a breakdown video. Death Stranding is a game with many layers that are easy to understand when you play the game and you dont have to digest it in Kojimas stylised trailers. The reason why the first game's trailers were so wierd was because it was a new IP and everyone was tryingto piece everything together. I understood everything happening in this trailer because i have context. Just recently came back to DS1 Directors Cut after this trailer to unlock the Cyberpunk gear.

    you can tell the people who have the attention spans of goldfish when it comes to DS. Like if you play the game as things slowly reveal the story is so utterly simplistic it's almost funny (In a good way.) It just has the cover of a more arthousey sci-fi aesthetic that ties the themes nicely. It's about loneliness, how forming connections is positive but how the over connectiveness of the internet can isolate you even more than without it. It's a story about trust, loss and love and with a heavy heaping of impending extinction due to a large-scale event outside of your personal control (Japan loves that theme mainly because of the whole... getting nuked thing.) DS is basically several relatively simple stories connected together to tell a compelling narrative. It's long, it's not perfect but god did this game hit different during the pandemic. It absolutely nailed the feeling of loneliness and using the internet to connect whilst most the world were locked in their homes weathering the COVID storm.

    The story of the first game is not that complex especially if you paid attention to the world they are living in, crazy stuff yet cool and not the simply classic story.

  • @TheSodapop89

    It's not true that you couldn't understand the Story of the first game. You just have to listen closely to every dialogue and you have to forget about your principles of your knowledge about life to be honest.
    However, this game is still scientifically based and in some scenes there is even evidence of the supernatural being real in our real life.
    I would say play the first part but you have to enjoy it to play this game till the end, otherwise you cant play 90+ hours when you want to see every Scene and read every Dialogue.
