- The United Nations Security Council has demanded an immediate ceasefire between Israel and Hamas in Gaza. After vetoing three previous resolutions, the US abstained this time around. The Take looks into the politics of the vote, and whether or not it will change the reality on the ground in Gaza.

All UN resolutions are binding. I say it as a former health worker with UN resolutions. If Israel do not comply the UN can ho forward to Article 7 of the UNSC Charter to implement sanctions and /or physical intervention.The US and Israel is in a precarioussituation, they are both pariah states globally already

Veto is the biggest reason why there was no ceasefire vote. Much like the US vetoed every resolution for a gaza ceasefire since Oct 7th, Russia vetoes every resolution to a ceasefire with Ukraine.
