There's a lot of misconceptions about good ol' Spartacus. He wasn't fighting to end slavery (his own land, Thracia practiced slavery). He was only trying to free himself. Nor was it his goal to destroy Rome: he was trying to escape Italy and go somewhere the Romans wouldn't find him and his followers. Every flim and television version I've seen either gets this wrong or deliberately ignores it.

There's a lot of misconceptions about good ol' Spartacus. He wasn't fighting to end slavery (his own land, Thracia practiced slavery). He was only trying to free himself. Nor was it his goal to destroy Rome: he was trying to escape Italy and go somewhere the Romans wouldn't find him and his followers. Every flim and television version I've seen either gets this wrong or deliberately ignores it.

This shows that most people didn't die at 20 like many people say... Average life expectancy back then was low because a lot of babies and young children died. If you made it to 7yo you could have a normal life span and reaching your 60s or so. You were more likely to die younger if you were a slave though.

It is a subject too long to give a fair analysis in the form of a TH-cam comment. It should suffice to say that the civilization is at the crossroads now, either to abolish it conclusively throughout this century or to make it even worse.

As far as I know, slavery did not end with the fall of the Roman Empire. Slavery in various forms have been rampant throughout history. I've read that more numbers of people are being trafficked as slaves today than in any other time in history.
