ahh. It's one of the few expansion-chips that were made for the japanese NES, the famicom. it's still 8-bit, but adds up to 8 (!) more channels which can all have different wave-forms. It's amazing in my opinion.
Indeed. A lot of harmony can be added thanks to that expansion-chip. But most importantly, it was only available in Japan, that's why most of us Europeans and even Americans don't know about it so well. I was working with this for a year until I left ( I returned a few weeks ago though ), that's the only reason why I know it so well.
