    I just followed your instructions this afternoon (7/6/2024) on my 07 Sienna and was able to change my speed sensor within 30 minutes. What took me the longest was trying to take out some old rusted screws that were holding on to the air filter clamp for dear life, lol. The original sensor was a little tough to take out to but with a little twisting and turning, it finally came out. Once those screws and original sensor came out, the new sensor was installed easily and it was really easy to put it all back together again. Thank you for recording this video for the general population. You saved me a few hundred dollars!

    Very detailed, thank you. I feel nervous about doing it, but I want to try doing it myself. The Toyota part costs $106, the transmission repair shop I talked to quoted $375 for parts and labor. But the worst part is they dont offer any guarantee or warranty for their work. That makes me hesitant to pay 375 for work with no guarantee. So, I will try to do it myself. :)

      If you know how to replace a battery and air filter, and you have the tool, you are good to go. Having a WD-40 is a plus. Just make sure you check the wires, and you have the right diagnostic. And again, use an oem part from Toyota dealer, aftermarket is not going to save you any money and it's not going to work.

      @@PickyOne Taking picture is a great idea. The code I got for CEL is P0793. I haven't replaced a battery before, only replaced a headlight bulb, and changed the cabin air filter. A little nervous, but it's such a difficulty to find a trustworthy auto mechanic. The transmission shop owner said he will check the wiring, but he didn't actually check any wiring, just visually looked at it and read the code, and then told me to replace the transmission speed sensor.

So the part I got was for this code.. but I had originally got the other code.. so I'm assuming if you get the first code it doesn't always mean it couldn't be the second sensor

    Hi, do you think it will be ok to turn on the engine briefly after installing the new sensor, before installing air box and duct back in place, just to see if the check engine light will go away with the new sensor? Or that's not going to work if air box and duct aren't back in place?

    • @PickyOne
      @PickyOne  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      It's a bad idea to start the engine without a filter. If you reach to the point that the problem is blue sensor and your replaced it with a new one, your problem is solved. The engine light is a secondary issue and it will go away or you can erase it with a code reader, even without replacing the part.

You may NOT need to replace the sensor if you fix the socket, but if you need to replace it, never ever go aftermarket (go OEM only). For for the socket, you can go aftermarket. I may have misspoken it. What I meant was whenever you get this OBD code, you will automatically get two other lights, the traction control light and stability control light, I may have called them codes but actually they're not they're only warning lights. Every time you have a transmission related OBD code the features of stability control and traction control are automatically turned off. Whenever you fix the problem that triggered the code, all other related lights will shut off and everything will go back to normal.

If resistance value is ok, is it advisable to buy original part from Toyota? or it could be another component failure?

    • @PickyOne
      @PickyOne  4 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      Theoretically, the first thing to do is to visually check the harness (the wires), it's a sweet spot for rodents in winter time. If wires look ok, check the resistance for both the sensor and the wires, I don't have the numbers handy. In general, it's the sensor that goes bad even if it gives you numbers within the range, for some reason the computer won't accept it. Numerous posts by Sienna owners mentioned that aftermarket part did not solve the problem and they have to switch to Toyota oem part. In my case, I started the work on a Saturday morning and rushed to the dealer to get the part before they close. My local AutoZone was offering an aftermarket part for the same price. I didn't have time for trial and error I've just installed the new oem part as shown and problems are gone.

    • @PickyOne

      If you have an OBD2 scanner, you can erase the code and the other lights ( traction/VSC) will disappear automatically with it. If you don't have a scanner, try disconnecting the battery terminal for 15 minutes. There's a possibility that the chewed wires cause some harm to the sensor itself but I'm not sure, I assume you did not replace the sensor. Some old sensors will give you good numbers while testing but they act up in real life. Also you can check the resistance of the harness itself, I don't have the exact numbers handy.

      If your cable is damaged you can buy an after-market socket with wires for Toyota transmission speed sensor from Amazon. Just like I did with my VVTi sensor video but the socket is slightly different. th-cam.com/video/JoS28JFa9A4/w-d-xo.html

      The blue sensor under the air filter box (shown in this video) is not related to the code you mentioned.
      Please check the other sensor (black) and the wires prior to replacement.
      Always replace those sensors with OEM from a Toyota dealer. After market sensors are not good at all and not cheap anyway.
      The blue and the black sensors are not interchangeable and you can't use one in the place of the other.
      Always check the wires prior any replacement. The sensors are located in a spot that's very attractive to rodents in winter time.
