Outstanding presentation. 4 of 5 problems you talked about I have had. I have a very good and honest mechanic but this presentation really helps me understand better. Thanks for putting it on
We are the original owners of out 2006 Toyota Sienna LE FWD with 193k miles. Common problems so far is power sliding doors, wheel bearings, lower control arms, and leaking valve cover gasket. We recently changed out the driver CV Axle as well. This car definitely needs more maintenance then our other cars but it constantly hauls 6-7+ people everyday and picks up our restaurant supplies at Costco weekly.

Unless like my 2004 Siena XLE that went through 2 transmission failures . 1 at 73000 miles, another at 130000 miles. AC compressor, new radiator, the power door issue. Liked it, but unloaded it after the second transmission replacement. They're not all great.
I had an 04 Santa Fe LX for a few years before I got my 06 Sienna(it was free) and overall I liked my Hyundai more. The reliability is there in my Toyota but servicing it overall is not that fun. Lots of cheap plastic everywhere.
I’ve had a 2008 Sienna for just over 2 years now. Have already replaced an O2 sensor, mode door actuator, both blend door actuators, heater core, crumbly plastic heater hose t-fittings, and power sliding door cable. Fingers crossed I can avoid needing the MAF sensor, or Evap Canister anytime soon.
Door cables and door actuators for sure. The other REALLY bad part of these cars is the spark plugs are impossible to get to----it's an all day job. Found the belts were really hard to replace as well.
600k?! 🤯...👍 nice! My 2005 is at 251k so this gives me hope. 🙆🏻♀️Just acquired it at 249K from my sister (original owner) and so far had to replace the original starter motor and gas cap which triggered the check engine light. All's good now and 🤞 she'll run smoothly for at least another 10k before dipping into the pockets.
Both sliding doors for me. Not TOO bad to replace, but if you mess it up once, it’s a waste of 3+ hrs and $160 part. Replacement part is cheap quality if it’s off Amazon, as expected. But I couldn’t bear to pay double for OEM and still risk messing it up.
I have a 2004 Toyota sienna with 198,000 miles on it. For the last four years I’ve had an engine check light and VSC check light on the mechanics at the dealership have replaced two oxygen sensors and a catalytic converter and still have not fixed the poor gas mileage and engine check lights! About a month ago I cleaned my mass airflow sensor and disconnected the battery to reset the codes. Before I did this my van was averaging about 13 miles per gallon afterword I was getting 23 miles per gallon. But now the lights have come back on and I’m down to getting 13 miles per gallon again!
#6 - Thermostat 'plastic' housing that cracks along the "welded/glued" line and will leak antifreeze. If you are handy, you can do it yourself. But first buy yourself 5 small acrylic paint bottles of different colors at TARGET. Paint connectors and hose plugs in different colors because reconnecting them could be confusing. If you are not handy and you can afford it - let the qualified mechanic do it for you because it will be very frustrating at times!

🙋♂️ ok so today I did some maintenance on a 05 sienna, and when I was replacing the air filter I thought it’d be a good idea to clean the MAF sensor. And of course being a klutz, I some how disconnected one of the 3 air lines that was going to the air filter cover where the MAF sensor is screwed on to, and I heard it release air like when disconnecting an air hose from a compressor (well maybe not THAT loud). I didn’t even clean the MAF sensor, and just out everything back. Turned on the vehicle and let it idle. After like 5 min the RPM dropped to around 500 but the vehicle didn’t stall. I shut it off and tried to turn it back on, nothing. Tried a second time, and now it just stays at 500. Any suggestions how to fix this blunder??
It is counterintuitive but dirty filters actually filter our more particles than clean ones. The problem with dirty filters is that at some point they create too much back pressure or break. In manufacturing plants, they sometimes have backpressure gauges to indicate when a filter is too stopped up. Meanwhile the filter is getting better and better at filtering. The logic. Bottom line, dirty filters are not the cause of MAFs needing cleaning. Of course you do need to change the filter eventually or it will make the make the fuel air ratio too rich.
I have an exceedingly silly question...can I add a driver side power sliding motor and such to a 2004 Sienna LE? I know the XLE has it but this LE came with full history and such so I went for it when I got one recently as a temp car till more EV options that fit my needs come on the market. But...not having a power sliding door on this side is becoming an issue...
Have you done a video on the motor mount type of PWM vacuum switch valve? I can’t seem to find any decent info on which of the three hoses go where. The switch has a port on top, that I think goes directly to air filter box. Then two ports in back. I think one of those ports is a vent and the other goes to what I believe is called the actuator. It connects to a second vacuum switching valve then the actuator. But I can’t find anything online that definitely tells me which of the two back ports on the PWM vacuum switching value is to vent and goes no where. Seems to be something I should get right on my 2008 Sienna!
Only done ignition coils out of that list. Power door cables are more common than those listed. Valley plate coolant leak on the 3.3s. And #1 is probably leaking power steering rack.
Love my '04 Sienna with 223,000. The only problem dont have is the sliding door issue. The sad thing is I haven't found any reputable mechanic to help with these minor issues. I'm always quoted $500 and up before they even look.
Good luck! We also have an 04 Sienna in the same mileage range, and we are among the many, many unlucky people who had the front door weld break. Have been quoted $3000 to replace the door. The problem is that the door check no longer works, so the door will swing wider than you set it for, which risks banging into and damaging someone else's vehicle. Toyota was finally forced (by the sheer number of complaints) to acknowledge the design failure and fix these, but we didn't get the notice or have the problem until after the recall had expired.
You can still open and close them manually, but nowhere near as easily as a manual door. We have a 2004 LE with one manual door and one power door. The manual door is super easy to operate. The power door, with the power shut off to it, is not.
VERY common problem that's hard to fix on 2004's: the driver's door check strap cup cracks, causing a popping noise when opening and closing. There was a "recall" years ago but it has lapsed. Cannot buy a replacement cup that should be welded into the door.
2006 Sienna with 213,000 miles and one fairly hard front end fender bender that badly tweaked the hood/fender panel alignment,. Haven't had any of these problems. Only issue is severely clouded plastic headlights. Plastic headlights should be banned. My 41 year old truck has glass headlights clear as the day they were made.
My 05 Sienna suddenly started randomly doing the “no crank no start”. One day it will crank up and go but once I turn it off it won’t crank again for 24-48 hours. Now it is not starting at all so I have scheduled appt at dealer.
Sienna is reluctant to restart when the engine is hot (quick restart after running) No check engine light, no over heating no codes showing. Engine cools down a bit (10-15 minutes) and it fires right up on the first try. Very strange… in need of assistance 🙏🙏
Waaa? Sounds like there are no problems. I have 2000 Sienna. I owned it since 135k. replaced O2 sensors soon, ignition coil, steering rack (at about 190k), windows regulators, front struts with sway bars and links, rear shock absorbers, radiator (at about 180k it will blow on any car), 100k service (water pump, timing belt), pulled out power door motor (stuck, replacement is too costly). I don't count brake drums with brake shoes replacement (once in 10 years) and I just put on second ceramic brake pads. Recently replaced alternator and 3rd battery. Voltage started to drop down to 11.8 with all auxiliaries on (AC, front rear fans, headlights). No mechanic can/wants to find what causes voltage drop and as I mentioned before I got new alternator and battery ( went through 3 reman alternators).

I got a problem with my 2004 Sienna, maybe someone can help me? Ignition key out - rad fans start working. May turn ON any time when not in use. Drain battery to zero. I disconnected day light. And disconnect fans plug all the time when not driving. This happens mostly in rain season when wet. Never in dry summer. Any idea? Thanks
Ok so I have an 09 sienna and I have as to replace ignition coil b 3 times in 2 year.. I’ve replaced the spark plug every time and put new wires on it the last time I did it. Toyota was finally forced (by the sheer number of complaints) to acknowledge the design failure and fix these, but we didn't get the notice or have the problem until after the recall had expired.
@1AAuto How to replace a 2005 Sienna Hazard Switch. Lights work, but I need to maintain holding down the button.
If the power side doors fail, can you simply open and shut them manually. Will they still lock?
Mine does not open from the inside but does open from the outside, its very heavy! Yes they still lock, manually and with key fob.
You can still open and close them manually, but nowhere near as easily as a manual door. We have a 2004 LE with one manual door and one power door. The manual door is super easy to operate. The power door, with the power shut off to it, is not.
not a word about power sliding door cables corroding out or driver door stopper mount spot welds giving up?
it would be kinda nice if you also say roughly how much will it cost for every part
Hi! Sir, could you please recommend a 5 seater used car best for uber..
Do they have the Toyota 5 speed trans issues like shift delays and jerking?
VERY common problem that's hard to fix on 2004's: the driver's door check strap cup cracks, causing a popping noise when opening and closing. There was a "recall" years ago but it has lapsed. Cannot buy a replacement cup that should be welded into the door.
should i stay away from a used Sienna or go with a Honda?
I am replacing sensors every year. When will it stop
Please can I get a sienna 2007 model full option with a 3mz engine please
Love my Sienna, but Yup, yup, yup, yup, and yup
Sienna is reluctant to restart when the engine is hot (quick restart after running)
No check engine light, no over heating no codes showing.
My 2007 sienna 230k and runs great but getting rusty here up north
I loved my Sienna till we went into a deep freeze two weeks ago here in Iowa. It has many issues now. Please help.
+@Chief2Balls5378 We wouldn't be able to diagnose an issue like that here, you may want to have a local mechanic take a look at it. Thanks for checking us out! 1aau.to/m/Shop-1AAuto-c
Thanks for the tip 👍👍👍👍👍

I have a Toyota Sienna 2006. The other day I hit like a rock on the road. It was a loud noise. I sounded serious. Found a leak. Had to replace the radiator but the van started overheating. I had the thermostat and the temperature sensor replaced but still over heating. I was told it could be the water pump or head gasket. I can drive the van for short distances until I see the temperature gauge needle go way up then i pull over and wait for the engine to cool down. Any suggestions?

DO YOU KNOW WHERE IS THE KEY FOB RECIVER/ DCR LOCATED IN 2005 SIENNA?
no mention of oil cooler lines and timing cover leaks for the 07-10 models? those are BIG ones.
Thank you for sharing. I learned a lot . Stay safe.
All of the sudden when I saw you.
I saw you like John Malkovich..
Thank you for your great videos..
Would you please do a video for MDX Acura 07-09. ?
THANK YOU
Very useful info, thanks

I have an issue with fueling, after $10 it’ll stop fueling at every $0.10 to $0.40 cents, please let us know how to fix it and where to fix it in Springfield, Illinois thank you,
It’s a 2013 Dodge Grand Caravan rt
#6 the oil cooler tube
there is a recall on it
Hey everyone, I've heard that the sienna also have issues with the gear more often.. is it really true and what's the probability of it coming up.... and can it be fixed properly?
I think it was a recall about it so supposed to be fixed
Not true
It's true he didn't know that
What recall?
2009 sienna change o2 sensor. Don't buy cheap. Last long only for 2 months. And coil by firewall failed. 220K+.
Should make videos for bmw oil leak problem. Oil leak where has gasket
Toyota: oh those are minor easy fixes they will last forever!
Any other brand: terrible! Never buying one again!
🤦🏻♂️
I liked working on my 04 Santa Fe LX more than my 06 Sienna. The sienna is not the easiest vehicle to maintain, throws you through hoops.
Had the oxygen sensor failure, that's it. 300k.
I got a problem with my 2004 Sienna, maybe someone can help me? Ignition key out - rad fans start working. (Not all the time, it may happens once a day or once a week) They may start any time when car locked and alarmed. Key in, ignition ON - all good. The same thing with day light. May turn ON any time when not in use. Drain battery to zero. I disconnected day light. And disconnect fans plug all the time when not driving. This happens mostly in rain season when wet. Never in dry summer. Any idea? Thanks
Great video!! Thanks!
Ok so I have an 09 sienna and I have as to replace ignition coil b 3 times in 2 year.. I’ve replaced the spark plug every time and put new wires on it the last time I did it. Here we are 6 months later and it’s giving me the same code. Anyone know why the same ignition coil keeps failing would be a huge help!!
Are you replacing with Denso brand?
Check fuel injectors, spark plug wires, vacuum lines, and fuel delivery system. Most likely your fix will be spark plug wires or fuel injectors.
Anyone have experience their hazard light or all 4 turn signal not turning off?
2005 Toyota sienna
What about the failing Transmissions after 100,000 miles
Very good know and be prepared for. Thanks for the video!
5 months later, did any of these problems happen to yours? any different problems?
The only problem that you illustrated is the coil. I was sure that you would mention the timing belt
How about the fact that an 04&05 have a totally diff engine than the rest? One has a belt and one has a chain..
