Is 24FPS Something You Might Consider Trying?

- I've been playing around with Frame Rates quite a lot recently since until now, I've tended to avoid 24 and 25 FPS. The main reason being that I didn't like the 'look' of movement in particular and what I saw as a lack of smoothness. This is all probably because I have become so used to 50 and 60FPS for vloggy type things that I felt the lower frame rates to just not work for me.
Doing as I thought I ought to be doing, I used to set up the camera with a 180 degree shutter, walk around and video as much as I liked and then got home only to be very disappointed with the jitter ridden results.
So then I researched jitter all over the place and found that I'm not the only one who can't stand it.
I did notice though that there is something about the 'look' of 24FPS that I really liked. It looked like a more 'serious' video so I wanted to see whether there was a away of making a video that didn't look so stuttery in low frame rates.
The biggest culprit turned out to be 'in camera' stabilisation!! I had been seeing artifacts from the stabilisation trying to control less sharp images. It really doesn't work.
I noticed that tripod shots looked great, but portable video looked dreadful.
Then I met up with Dave Harry in Liverpool. He was using a GoPro with a very high (automatic) shutter. His resulting video looked great, so I thought about it and decided to experiment with low frame rates but also using a high shutter speed in order to get decent stabilisation for mobile shots. It worked!!!!
So .....
Still shots .... slow shutter on a tripod. Stabilisation off. Wide open lens.
Moving around with a handheld camera ... Fast shutter. Stabilisation on and if the camera has it, wide open lens.
At least that way, I could combine tripod shots with moving handheld shots without feeling that the handheld shots were so bad that I couldn't use them.
