On the box received at The In Groove, Mike noted that the "Meet The Beatles" LP had some serious non-fill. You might take a closer look at each album to evaluate condition and let us know.
These LP's have all been bastardized and Dexterized. When learning of the Japanese releases immediately wondered how much appeal they would have. The Beatles and DC5 refuse to be issued in SACD. That would be NEWS!
How did you think they sounded Michael? I received my boxset today and played a couple on my Rega deck with a stereo cart fitted (Luxman amp was set to Mono) and I was fairly underwhelmed tbh. Then I played ‘Something New’ on my Technics deck with a Mono cart fitted and the difference was fairly startling. Overall I think they sound excellent.
The jackets appear to be glossy instead of mat....could you confirm? Hopefully the playhouse will get the box as ordered on Friday. Hope you join the playhouse!
I know some want this Beatles 1964 albums box for nostalgic reasons or they are simply used to hearing these albums this way. For me, only the original UK Parlophone albums- all 13 of em are what sound best. There is no omission of songs like on Rubber Soul and Revolver and no additional echo and mixing was done as is the case with these N.A. issues. I have some originals of those in this 1964 box and they sound ok otherwise. In Canada we got the Twist & Shout and Rarities compilations, which sound great actually. The are not in this box set unfortunately prob because they were exclusive to Canada. I'm sure they will sell through these sets no doubt and in time for Christmas.
I have no argument against the original UK albums, as they are definitive. Having said that, the inclusion of the hit singles on the Capitol albums is a big plus for many. There are so many iconic hits that didn’t appear on the UK albums, other than appearances on later hits compilations.
I went with the individual copies! I couldn’t pull the trigger for the box set. $130 dollars more for a box and Beatles story was not worth it for me. If it was more reasonable priced I would have gotten it. Heard it was limited though at least the box sets
There are millions of these records out in the wild. It’s been that way for 60 years. I just don’t get all the excitement. I have the 2004 CDs in mono and stereo and they sound marvelous.
I fully expect there will be a volume 2 box set containing the last 7 albums issued by Capitol in mono, namely BEATLES VI through MMT. But it will actually contain 8 discs...just like volume 1. The extra disc will be the butcher cover version of YESTERDAY AND TODAY. So it's not hard to guess which album will only be available in the box set. It will be the first time since June 1966 that the butcher cover version of YESTERDAY AND TODAY will officially be made available to the public. But it's almost certain you won't be able to buy it outside of the box set.
I will more than likely get the set because I don't want to make the mistake like I did in 2014 and end up paying out the arse after it goes out of print. Apple needs to repress the 2014 set!! Michael, PLEASE do the review with as much storytelling as you can muster up with regards to your earliest memories of those releases (64 US) 😊👍 Thanks for the sneak peek

I'm curious if the American albums are unique masters or if they just used the stereo/mono remasters repackaged here. I bought the CD set back in 2014 when it came out and these just sounded like they were repackaged from the stereo and mono remasters boxes. Thanks.
I couldn't afford the expensive box so I opted to get the six records separately and I know I can get a used copy of The Beatles Story on eBay anytime I want it so not so worried about that one
The US A Hard Day’s Night may be pretty miserable in stereo, if you only consider the Beatles songs. But the instrumentals, which are the only content truly exclusive to the US release, were in true stereo, and are only “fake mono” fold downs on the mono pressings. In fact, a very significant amount of the ‘64 US mono albums have mono fold downs derived from stereo, instead of proper mono mixes. It’s a shame that we can’t have all-analog representations of the truly exclusive American content in the best fidelity format possible. It is still locked away on decades old LPs.
You don't need a either they will still play on a normal stereo system in mono. It is better to have a mono cartridge and or mono capable system. I don't have a mono cartridge but I do have a mono capable system and my experience is there is little difference from playing on a pure mono system than a stereo system - but there is a difference.
No. Of course it will sound better with a mono cartridge or a mono switch on your phono preamp or receiver. Or you can use Y connectors. Doing that cencels out vertical modulations produced by pressing errors etc. makes it much quieter but really no need to do any of that to enjoy
Are these tracks IDENTICAL to the mono tracks that comprised the 2014 ""Beatles in Mono" vinyl box set?
