    We made plans last year to go to China, but we decided it might not be a good destination with the outbreak. So we started making reservations for Italy. You can guess how that turned out! Several cancellations later, we were buying board games to travel vicariously. This list comes at a perfect time, now that we might be able to actually go places again. The only one we have played is Sushi Go! which is a lot of fun, so your suggestions will come in handy. Thank you for always coming up with great content.

    We have 4 from your list (The Crew, Cartographers, Sushi Go & Love Letter) & I agree completely that they are great when traveling. If my wife & I are traveling alone we like couples games like Hive, Targi, Catan Card Game... If we're going to be with family, we like Blockbuster, Just One, Happy Salmon & Codenames. Thanks for another great video!

    100% Agree on Legacy of Dragonholt. We brought it along on all our camping trips this year to play on the way to/from. Made the miles fly by.

    Hierarchy has a solo expansion where you play as an emissary that swaps out a few of the cards and has you try to play ALL the cards. Great picks all-around 👍

    I think It's worth pointing out that Fantasy Realms has an app that does the scoring for you, and it works really well. And also, the cards fit nicely in a box from an old deck of Bicycle playing cards or something like that.

    Great video Mr. Stegmaier! A few that came to mind would be:
    Welcome To
    Point Salad
    Kingdomino Duel
    Hanabi
    Ascension: Apprentice Edition
    Santorini
    These are all games I've brought with me and played at a restaurant or at a fast food table with someone I was meeting up with. I also did this once each with Azul: Summer Pavillion, and Isle of Skye, but I'd recommend those less so. I've also traveled with several of the games you mentioned, such as Cartographers, Sushi Go, Fantasy Realms and Love Letter. Love Letter is always the first that comes to mind for me.

    • @ryusuikarate
      @ryusuikarate 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Santorini? Is there a travel friendly version or did you build one yourself? I owned the regular edition once and that box was ticket to ride sized. Not what I would call travel friendly.
      You could play a version of our with the pieces of Tak though.

    • @rickadam6051
      @rickadam6051 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@ryusuikarate The one I have is not a travel size but it's also not Ticket to Ride big either. I included games that could be played if you were traveling and stopped at a restaurant or something and played while you waited. I figured that would be okay since a game like Sushi Go for example I think would be hard to play in the car. Fantasy Realms would require some kind of stable playing surface as you have to end up with 12 discarded cards

    Returning from the inaugural Dice Tower Cruise, we broke out Pandemic: The Cure while waiting for our meal at an airport restaurant. All the components fit in the dice bag, and all those dice definitely grabbed the attention of others.
    One I don't own yet, but hope to soon so I can take it when I travel for work is Palm Island.

    Here's my favorite travel games:
    1) Hive Pocket + exp. - Because it's an indestructible game that can be played on any surface, rock on top of a mountain, sand on the beach, grass in the park, and obviously a table.
    2) Skulls of Sedlec + exp. - The latest Button Shy game that get the edge currently because of it's extended player range from 1 to 4 with the mini-expansions that also fit in the wallet. But the it take a bit of table space to play.
    3) Sprawlopolis + exp. - Still my favorite Button Shy game, that is really awesome and that can be played solo and the 2-player coop is also good with a personal tweak to it. I'm really eager to check out the newest expansion Interstate that add 2-player competitive game mode but also new rules to the 2-player coop.
    4) The Crew - For most of the reason you already said, but it also take a fair amount of table space too though.
    5) Fairy Tale - This would be my pick for my travel-friendly drafting game of choice.

    1. Hokkaido

    3. Microbrewers (previously Brewcrafters the Card Game)
    4. La Granja: No Siesta
    5. Railroad Ink

    Just saw this video, what a great list of suggestions!
    I normally travel with...
    * Sushi Go Party:
    even though it does come with a bigger box the amount of variety it adds is huge, and since it's a tin box you just throw it in your bag and you know the components will be ok anyway XD
    *Wh40k: Space Hulk: Death Angel: The Card Game
    longest name ever... fitting for a Wh40k where everything needs to be epic XD This game comes in a VERY small box but it's really fun and plays really well. It has a lot of depth for such a small game. It is a great solo but also goes up to 6 players, though i would not recommend it with more than 4 since it has player elimination.
    *Timeline
    Simple, fast and requires almost no table space.

    We travel light so for two players I like Tides of Time, Twilight Squabble and Sprawlopolis (coop puzzle). Allowing for a few more people our new fav is Silver&Gold, replacing Catan Dice but with only a set of six dice and my phone for scoring (I made a score sheet in google sheets) we will have Farkle. Then we’ve got Don’t Mess With Cthulhu for 4+ players hidden identity. If I know we’ll have space to set up then Tiny Epic Quest or Citadels is on deck as well.

    Fantasy Realms has a scoring app which is really handy! Loving this list tho, I have Batman version of Love Letter but its a great pocket game. I missed Fantasy Realms; I had it, sold it and now I'd like to get it back 😪

    I had a great time on a 5-hour flight playing The Castles of Burgundy: The Dice Game. It only has 4 dice and the box top made a good tray. I was able to solo it comfortably in the middle seat using the tiny food tray. (I put some paper in the dice tray to avoid making much noise.) It's a great solo game, but it's a roll and write where everyone uses the same dice, so you can easily expand it to more. I could imagine 3 people in an airline row playing it easily. There was only one scary moment where I rolled and missed the box and had to fish around for a wayward die at my feet. :) I know you're not a solo gamer, but my travel list would definitely have "soloable" as a key factor.

    A very good game that travels well is BANG!, although a bit hard to find nowadays.
    The most recent edition is encased in a massive bullet shaped box that I would just not take on my trip and replace by a smaller card box.
    Very fun and fast. But minimum of 4 players unfortunately...

    I think The game is better for travel than the mind. L.A.M.A maybe is another good game for travel. Dirty pigs, Hoarders, Zeus on the Loose, Cabooses in the corner., Qwinto. But the best travel game that I think will be always a success is the card game 5211 and the new azul version is more beautiful.
