The Humane AI Pin solves nothing and makes me feel stupid

- The Humane AI Pin is slow, finicky and barely even smart. Though the concept is intriguing and the laser projector technically works, most of the execution falls flat. Plus, using it made me look pretty dumb. As it stands, the Humane AI Pin doesn’t do enough to justify its $700 and $24-a-month price.

"It's futuristic, if the future sucked." Wow... that was brutal.
VR/AR would have a lot of words for you
Honest tho
The fine folks @ Humane AI must be punching the air right now with all these Horrible Reviews pouring in 😂😂😂😂
Gotta respect the honesty tho lol. The pin looks terrible
Yep, she destroyed the pin. It was a great review, though!
Humane really built a product around every annoying tech user experience
Lol forreal
Props for covering the WiFi difficulties that I had to cut for time in my own review!
So basically your review sucked?
You didn't cover the WiFi issues bcoz you want to be PR safe for companies and want to be in their good books so you can get devices for early views. You aren't a reviewer but a PR person for these companies
@@10Zenil I mean, I enjoy dunking on a shill as much as the next guy, but his review was extremely negative
@@10Zenilyou are so confidently incorrect. His review practices have always been the antithesis of what you describe.
You sellout
the whole thing seemed sketchy since the announcement and how the guy was trying to "sell" the product on the stage. thank you for. being objective, rational and honest!
Everything about Humane felt sleepy from the get-go. Took no brainpower to conclude way in advance that this wouldn't succeed. Just sit this next to the Rabbit R1. The R1 screams fun, play and innocence through good design (and it's 199). While the AI Pin just snores lazy pompous and i mean, the humane team seemed, to me, to be dominated by completely oblivious, borderline narcissist personalities. Not a great combo.
this is one of those things you leave to wealthy early adopters
@@baandoptagerR1 is as useless if not more but both are completely dogsh*t 😂😂😂
Well, to be honest: every positive review would be quite suspicious.
I hate the argument "When you use your phone you get distracted because of notifications", let just pretent like ultra saving mode isn't a thing at all on phones
i sincerely appreciate the conviction of this review.
this critic really didn’t hold back
I've watched a number of reviews on this item, all bad. What surprised me about this review is that you managed to find even more terrible reasons for people to pass on it. I thought I had already heard them all. Nope!
What always gets me with these kinds of crappy product launches is I can't imagine how during all the years of research and development and millions upon millions of dollars invested into the product, not one person (in a position of power) looked at this and said, "yeah, no, this is not good enough, let's try something else." They just keep charging ahead and end up with this piece of crap.
sunk cost fallacy: too much time, money and resources invested. Also they pitched this to several vc's who invested millions and can't just back out of commitment
That is the current problem with bloated management who often have little experience, understanding or knowledge about what they oversee. Also they don't want to stand out of the group by criticising the product because they want to protect their positions.
Cherlynn is by far the best tech space reviewer for these kinds of things. Honest and real. Thanks for cutting through the PR noise!
“I lift weights. So, I am pretty strong and I can lift my arm and keep it up there long”.
my thoughts exactly, just what it's like from the pov of the majority of users experience of a tech product, not an from a pre-informed gadget enthusiatist (even though i am one, these reviews are more important for the real pupose of a consumer technology
@@Viviko if you're trying to make a point, just make it. peoople who try to talk ironically as if their point is too smart for the average, just make themselves sound so out of tounch with how people around them think
Meanwhile Marques gets cancelled for providing an objective review.
@@meowco69 Um, did he?!
The "Can we do it? or, Should we do it?" syndrome attack again!
But but they used to work for Apple. SMH
Not even; with this iteration I’d argue that they DIDN’T do it. Like they tried to bring dinosaurs back to life and ended up with a temperamental, overheating iguana.
The titles for the reviews on this thing just keep getting better.
100% lol humane is going bankrupt soon with this sh*t
‘It’s futuristic, if the future sucked’ lol
Yeah, that was quite a line. Fair, in my opinion.
Lol
Ouch, that hurts. But can't say I was surprised. I'm only impressed that it wasn't just vaporware.
LOL the video title makes so much sense
She's also an Apple fan girl, so she's easily confounded by new things.
@@lisaboban sure, buddy
@@lisaboban bro she literally says it's inspired by apple lmao
the price alone is Inhumane and charging $24 a month on top should be considered a war crime
gotta hook up to that big subscription train 🤡
"Former Apple engineers"
That explains quite a bit.
I was gonna say, that explained everything for me.
@@sunahamanagai9039 what does it say ?
I mean Apple products maybe overpriced but they are generally easy to use and just work both things that doesn't seam to be true for the Pin
Ridiculous comment. Apple is the exact opposite of this. Humane is a company which created a super high-tech product that's ahead of the market but the tech is not really there yet, so it's useless. Apple does the opposite - they're usually the LAST tech company to adopt an already existing tech and put it into their products in a useful way.
Finally someone made a review that actually spoke about how little sense this makes with all it's projectors and blasting answers out loud 😂
This gave big “solution looking for a problem” vibes
I like that this review focused on the usability of the pin. I've seen reviews that examined the technical failings but having those put into context in her life made it much more tangible to me. Great video.
Possibly the easiest expensive device to steal from someone, but also you would never be able to resell it for more than $20
Why should anyone steal that thing?
Never thought about that.
“It’s futuristic, if the future sucked.” Zinger.
"It is futuristic, if the future sucked". LOL
can’t wait for the BRUTAL MKBHD review 😂😂
The Fisker Ocean of tech devices
I can’t wait for Linus 😂
5:46 If this is just a regular Wifi QR code you should be able to generate it from your settings app
Futuristic... For sure. ....if the future sucks 😂😂😂😂
Banger sentence
Some April Fool's jokes shouldn't be made into reality
“It’s working to counteract something that was a problem caused by its existence in the first place”
This is exactly what rewinding a VHS tape was! It was a super annoying problem created by the existence and limitation of the technology. The only difference is VHS gave us home movies that we otherwise couldn’t have. The AI Pin doesn’t really offer anything that a phone paired with a watch can’t already do. The camera is the only piece of tech a smartwatch usually doesn’t have.
You covered and detailed all the actual use cases so well.
But it looks so intuitive to use! /s
Seems 10x worse than touchscreen even though touchscreen is the worse controller ever for me😂
They should bring down the price, sell it as an AR gaming system, then use the revenue to make updates to the processing and design to the point that they can allow an open source market to exist and let users create their own useful apps.
I for example see this being really useful in a camping/outdoor wildlife hiking scenario. It could tell you what certain plants are, discern bird or other animals sounds, give directions, track movement. Stuff like that.
Very smart ideas.
When I first saw the campaign for this I thought it was just another Kickstarter… I can’t believe serious money went behind this project. It was an obvious flop.
the new name of this product is Inhumane Pinhole
Pay a lot of money, to make your life harder. If you want to use your phone less, leave it at home. That was one of the selling points right?
honestly if you want to still be connected but be more unplugged getting a dumb phone seems like a much better option.
@@audoodle9963 true
Sadly this is DOA and we are unlikely to see a version two. I do not understand the product; specifically, the pricing is shocking. AI is coming to every smartphone and that is the perfect AI device. Leave it at that. This and Rabbit are dead in the water.
I don't think is DOA since it got the name "AI" in it no matter how bad it is, people will still rush to buy one because of that buzz word alone.
Good for company but bad for consumers who fell for it
@@toututu2993 Yes, you have a point there!
I'd be sad if the evolution of personal computing devices stopped at cell phones. As bad as this thing is, I welcome companies trying new things. These yearly releases of yet another glass rectangle, "our best ever", with slightly improved hardware are... fine, I guess. I'm hoping for a more exciting future, though.
@@Vespertilio-Homo Well VR/AR will easily destroy smartphone. What it can do is massive.
this review talked about a lot of things that other reviewers missed! really insightful
True the burning thing surprised me.
“A device for the future - if the future sucked.” Dead on arrival.
Finally an honest review. Not only honest, but all valid points. I’m now a fan of this channel 👏
For a change factual review
Lemme guess... Apple fan?
This review perfectly sums how this device is simply not practical.
Just seems like a less useful smartwatch
I saw an ad for this and thought it was pointless complication that nobody wants.
“It is futuristic… if the future sucked” 😂😂😂👍👍
of all the ways I figured this could go wrong, I didn't have burning the end-user on my bingo card, sheesh. the bar was low, and they tunneled under it.
Lol. Great video. Needed that laugh. Thank you
Thank you for this great review! I am canceling my order right now!
"Stay hot!" Dayum gurl! Humane not ready for this
It tries to solve a problem no one really has or asked it's just a harder to use phone and a screenless watch with way harder controls it's really unnecessary and solves nothing just a vanity tech device
Those ex apple engineers shouldve just stayed in apple. 😅
This is a classic example of "just because you can make a technically innovative product doesn't mean you should".
The title of this video is amazing so I immediately had to click the link and watch the video 😂
3:14 been seeing a lot of complaints about having to re-enter PW when removing it, maybe they should've put a fingerprint reader on it?
Oh man - as someone who didn't really see the pitch for AI pins from jump, it sounds like they launched it WAY too early
Great review as always~! \o/
i like how this review was too brutally honest based on consumers perspective 😂💀
3:01
The best part of the review.
that song in the intro is giving me 80's jpop vibes
bro, I have been saying all along that this was a scam since the weird press release closed demo. It seems like they built up a lot of hype on purpose so that people talk about it, and generate money in ads clicks. This is nothing but a tech demo and it's really frustrating to see how often companies release unfinished products and games, only to promise updates later. It seems like we just enjoy the hype and then enjoy the fallout for the clicks? We all know that something is wrong when we can't see something working before we buy it. If it was really good, it would sell itself without all the hype. Maybe I'm just crazy.
Thx
1:35 - That clears things up.
What a brutally honest title
They could fix the switching garments thing by just allowing a 30 second delay or something. Or just having a fingerprint sensor (given you need to touch it to activate it) or... palm scanner!
I gotta say.... at least they tried? Kinda brutal.
It’s a noble thing when the concept is at least good. This is a bad concept. I feel like voice assistants (Google Home, Amazon Echo) kind of peaked a few years ago because people don’t like talking to devices and these people didn’t get the memo.
The "palm projector" side of things is probably the most interesting part. The software apparently just sucks.
Should call it, the inhumane pin.
The fisker Ocean of wearables lol
the $700 prototype. the dictation of password is unreal. and kind of hilarious.
Hands down the best tech reviewer
I love how pointless this is. It does nothing better than a phone and can’t do half the things a phone does. 😂
NothingButTech just did an amazing interview with Humane. Hearing Bethany Bongiorno talk about their 1st Gen AI Pin explained a lot as Jacklyn did great getting her to talk about the criticism and future hardware.
This is like going on shark tank claiming you discovered the toaster 😂
Just cant believe this product made it to the market
3:01 God damn 😭😭
complains about getting burnt and then tells me to stay hot haha, great take btw and that wifi issue sounds like a pain in the arse tbh.
The tech pinnacle of “at least it’s pretty.”
well... so long Pin. I never believed in you. I ain't paying this!
Love how critical this review was. Humane is a scam.
scammers should be arrested and sent to prison.
But MKBHD title was "mean and rude" LMAO. I'm all for it to destroy Humane.
Feels like I can do 95% of the things the Pin does more comfortable and faster with my phone and I'm not going to pay 700 + subscription for those few things
what if in SF someone snatches it from you? LOL
4:06 "....If the future sucked..." 💀
I can imagine yet another trouble incoming by summer: as it is, this thing already overheats easily and causes dscomfort. Add a nice, sunny, broiling 30-35°C day and people will trash this little monster!
No connection to phone, no 4G/5G, no earbuds... Oh, and I guess it's better not talk about pacemakers, yowza!
Humane should just drop the Pin in favor of a nextgen smartwatch
Why cant they just use an app on your phone to configure it ?. Using BT protocol and oh, might as well allow the audio I/O to be directed to your phone to your headset!. That would solve a lot of the convenience issues.
"It's futuristic..if the future sucked" lol. Surprised Jony didn't make them sell a 24k gold one.
“Worst product I have ever reviewed” MKBHD
Maybe if it could connect to your phone if would be useful
Imagine just using the assistant on your phone without ever looking at the screen
That's pretty dumb
I hope they have the time
Big tech failures - this thing, Google Glass, even the Segway, don't take into account that if people look and feel like an idiot using it, its a failure. It's pretty basic.
04:06 "It's futuristic for sure, if the future sucked!" What a burn ladies and gens! This should be put on and be a constant reminder for any tech companies out there and their products.
How could this possibly cost $700? Like what? If this was like $100 maybe it would be a cool novelty but no way in hell would anyone pay 700.
If they rebrand it as "Inhumane Pin" I'll buy one I promise
The device runs hot but not as hot as Cherlynn Low
I don't understand why this product was made, or why anyone would ever want one. Just mind-blowingly stupid on every level.
A friend of mine was teasing me recently how can I spend a 1000 euros for an iPhone 15 Pro.
And couple of days ago I showed him this product and couple of reviews… And he was like….OK, that iphone of yours is practically free when compared to this crap….
Thankyou
Any tech that relies on voice commands is not going to be widely adopted. Not many people would like to dictate everything they want to do whole day every day. And I don’t know about US, but in Eastern Asia, forget about using it in public places, here even talking on the phone in public is frowned upon.
Reviews I'm seeing on this device consistently point out that this device is a solution in search of a problem. I have to agree. It's a "solution" to "I don't want to use my phone" but then it executes that solution poorly. I guess there could be potential niche use cases, such as a digital assistant for a person with impaired vision.
People with impaired vision use the same phones as everyone. There are already accessible tools and voice commands, and even better they don't use bad ai, they are specifically made to read critical information and controls. This would never help someone with a disability.
I'd love to see Humane AI pin being pitched on Dragons Den. 😂
Honestly you shouldn't even try to compete with smartphones, you should either complemen them, or offer something new that can't be done better replicated by saying "Hey Siri, do this"
I might be wrong but... if they sold this as a phone add on that just used Bluetooth to tether itself to your phone it'd be more attractive. Then it could use the phone plans data connection and could cost maybe $200 at mist. And then a $12/month subscription might make less of a headache.
I am not surprised it gets hot i believe most projectors use fans for this reason to keep the delicate components cool so i predict it probably wont work for long
Brownlee can't take sole blame for the company's future!
I remember telling my wife this pin was one of the dumbest things I’d come across sometime last year (and that the founders didn’t seem enthusiastic about their tech, which was kinda suss).
This video lowkey validated me lol
Also: “it’s futuristic. If the future sucked” 😭😂 no one recovers from that, it’s over 😩❤️🔥
No one, apart from tech bros, wants to talk to computers, especially not in public.
