    "For every ad that covered 90% of the webpage, for every EU cookie notice I had to click through, for every backwards redirect that trapped me in that hell, this is the wrecking ball that's coming for these people-and it's coming fast." Incalculably BASED.

    Bravo! I've watched seven videos so far about this topic. This is the best explanation of how to use Collections. I set one up with an AI prompt that is a variation of your prompt. I've begun going through a folder full of articles that I have put off reading for months. What a HUGE time-saver. I've found important information that I can use in my work. One tip: I set the default to "Claude v3" and got much better results in how it presented the summary and the quality of the analysis.

    I went to university and the biggest takeaway I got from the process was the ability to reference many sources from different and diverse perspectives. I believe that this should not be lost when AI comes into force as if you believe the first thing that any source tells you then this is a flawed method. Perplexity / google open AI are all biased but so are human “experts” it is still sensible to refer across a couple of platforms and sources and then critically think and make up your own mind. Don’t get lazy and comfortable in your own echo chambers. Constantly challenge your own bias and be open to new ideas. Remember we don’t know anything and people will look back at us in the future the same way we look back to people who didn’t understand illness and blamed witchcraft or thought the earth was flat

    Digressing, I'll definitely be checking out Perplexity though. It's interesting that instead of decentralizing the now centralized internet, we sort of created centralized tools that "artificially decentralizes" it? Applications such as Perplexity won't be a threat to social media. People love interacting with others, whether it's liking a heart icon and replying to others. Social media provides a space for sharing ideas, opinions, gifs, videos, etc. This is why Reddit, Tiktok, TH-cam, Facebook, Twitter, and so on, are so popular. Bard, Chat GPT, Perplexity are soulless interfaces that don't offer social interaction that people want. They are great for information but that's about it. They will most likely replace search engines, wikipedias, dictionaries, etc.

    And it started halucinating every single time, didn't return the first 3 lines verbatim even once.

    I haven't messed with the paid version yet; but in my free use of it, I've noticed it seems to think I'm the one providing the search results, so sounds like it's at least two systems, one that figures out some search queries (dunno if it's more than one search per prompt), and another that receives your prompt combined with the search results and reacts to that (and I imagine there's more behind the scenes, system prompts, pre-prompts etc). There have been a few times where the search results were quite nonsensical as if the AI had misinterpreted what really was the topic and searched for something else, but then the actual reply noted that the search results weren't relevant and came up with it's own answer without taking the search results in consideration; so it really does sound like that it might not even be the same model doing the searches as the one that writes the answers the user sees.

    Do you know if I cancel my openai membership and sign up for Perplexity, if I'd lose any feature or function that I'd have available using ChatGPT directly vs. using it on Perplexity's system?

    • @hqcart1
      @hqcart1 8 หลายเดือนก่อน

      why would you want to cxl in the first place?

    • @mr.notorious2465
      @mr.notorious2465 8 หลายเดือนก่อน

      well if i can gain the same function chat gpt has through openai membership directly, it'd make sense to me to cancel and buy a pro membership through perplexity if no function would be lost, especially since id be gaining all the capability of perplexity and the other models they support/provide access to.
      This is why I am curious if perplexity provides the same level of control and depth as is able to be achieved through open ai directly @hqcart1

    • @mr.notorious2465
      @mr.notorious2465 8 หลายเดือนก่อน

      @@hqcart1 if the functions lost via canceling with openai, are gained back under perplexity membership, I'd also gain functions of perplexity's system and the models they support, which aren't available directly at openai; where I pay the same for their pro membership.
      Not sure if this is the case as far as functionality but if so that's logic behind the question.
      Any more information would be greatly appreciated and highly welcomed 🙏

    I wonder what will happen if everybody uses an AI search like perplexity and then people stop publishing content on websites because they can't make any money from it. Where then will perplexity get its content from?

  • @delightfulThoughs
    @delightfulThoughs 8 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

    The problem would be that websites are not going to be able to monetize. Abuse it while it works. If this becomes "the next thing" publishers and advertising companies are going to complain to the governments and ask for new laws.

    • @ktb1381
      @ktb1381 8 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Yes exactly! If perplexity and websites like it are picking data from websites and neatly summarizing content from websites then those websites will opt out or go under....

    • @wonmoreminute
      @wonmoreminute 8 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      Not just opt out (if blocking search engines is what you mean), they stop creating authentic content entirely. Some articles take me and other content creators a week or more to write (or our writers to write) and can be $1000+ to buy and test products, develop recipes, travel somewhere for research, etc. But it can also 2+ years ROI, which is fine. It used to be worth it, but not anymore. I haven’t invested in high quality content in about a year because it just gets scraped and summarized.
      So some content creators have just become discouraged and don’t see a future in it, and others are pumping out 1000+ AI written articles per day that no human ever sees prior to it being published and put out there for public consumption. It’s easy and if a few stick, it’s worth it. But that’s the future of the web and I’m not sure how to stop it. In another year or two we will likely have personal AI assistants that will answer our questions in regular conversation.

    For those concerned about how these companies are going to make money without ads. It's not your problem. Use this early adopter advantage to make your money and let the big dogs worry their own problems. There are billions of people out there that will still be subject to ads while you build for years to come.

    How are the privacy policies for Perplexity? If someone uses DDG or startpage, how much worse is it for privacy? I asked what the maximum dose of diclofenac 100mg supps per day is and perplexity answered: The maximum frequency of diclofenac 100mg suppositories is typically 2 to 3 times a day, with a maximum daily dose of 100mg. The dosage is based on the individual's medical condition and response to treatment, and it is important not to exceed 100 milligrams of diclofenac (suppositories and/or tablets) in a 24-hour period. Hmmm :/
