    I don't sew much, but bought this machine 8 years ago and I still love it! AND, I continue to refer to your videos each time I revisit my machine or have to use a different foot. I did a lot of research before picking this model and when I found your videos, that was the clincher for me; knowing that I had a "tutor" anytime I needed one. Thank you, Roxanne!

    Glad I found this! I have had the Singer Quantum Stylist for 6 months, and have been intimidated by it! Didn't even plug it in! I have only used a cheap Singer Simple previously. Plan to plug it in next to my comp tonight, and go through it via your videos, and finally give it a reason to be on the table-other than looks! Thank you!

    Bless your heart for taking the time to film and publish these wonderful videos of yours. After waiting 2 years, I finally took the plunge and brought home a Singer Quantum 9960. Reading through the manual, and failing miserably, I was ready to pack up my 9960 and return it. Discovering your instructional video series has been a blessing...as well as a confidence booster! I'm going to keep my new 9960 thanks to you!

    After researching for weeks, I'm just purchasing a 9960 in 2019, surprised to see it's been around since 2013 (at least) At first made me wonder if the machine was old itself, then I thought "well, it must be good enough to have hung around this long!" - and still going strong and in some of 2019 top 10 machines list! Best tutorial ever here on TH-cam for this machine, thank you so much Roxanne. I hope you'll still be around in case I have any challenges I cannot solve.

    Thank you so much for sharing these tutorial videos! In my research of what sewing machine to buy, your videos helped me feel more confident that I would be able to figure out the Singer Quantum Stylist, so I bought it and received it today (Singer should give you commission!). After getting it all plugged in, I pulled up your videos and used them to get the machine threaded and ready to go! I pieced most of a quilt top tonight and I could not be happier with this machine! Thanks for the work you put into the videos and for putting them out there! I'm anxious to watch the rest!!

    Roxanne, I’ve had my Singer Quantum 9960 for a few years now and love it. Threading my machine with the automatic needle threader was hit or miss using the directions found in the manual. Your demonstration for going down, then up for the hook in front of the needle made it ‘understandable’...thank you. I’ve been reading some of the comments about problems people are having with their machines. I ordered mine on Amazon, and when the UPS driver brought it to the door, the box was so unbelievably mangled and torn up that I refused delivery. After contacting Amazon, the next machine came via FedEx. The driver lifted it carefully from the back of the trailer as though it was a baby. I have to wonder whether some of the difficulties are a direct result of transit issues.

    Hey, Excellent video by the way. You mentioned I should get a 15J bobbin for this sewing machine, in the instructions on the sewing machine it said to use only Singer bobbins. I bought a kit made by Singer called Sew Essentials which was 165 pieces mostly thread and it came with some bobbins. They are the same diameter but a little shorter but it didn't show the part number anywhere on the box. When I filled one it did make a different sound, how do I know if it will work?

    • @RoxanneStitches
      @RoxanneStitches  8 ปีที่แล้ว

      Hi Chris. Sorry but I have no idea what bobbins are included with your kit. Probably best to contact the vendor of the kit or simply wind the thread on a known 15J bobbin. Only use 15J bobbins. The sounds could be from using the wrong size bobbin.

    I have this machine and I love it. The QS9960 does take bobbin 15 and not 15J but your QS9960 maybe different as I know the older model of the Singer QS9960 does use different bobbins so maybe your machine does use the 15J.

    • @RoxanneStitches
      @RoxanneStitches  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Hi Robert. Doesn't seem to be any rhyme or reason as to which bobbin is the correct one. Mine came with 15J, so I use that with no issues. Other newer machine have also come packed with 15J. I suggest owners match new bobbins to whichever comes with their machine.

    After all these years would you still recommend buying this machine? Am new to sewing but not a quilter, I just want to learn to make clothes and some stuff for around the house. I do like "crazy" fabrics like, furs, sequins, netting and leather like fabric along with just normal ones. The other machine am looking at is completely different and it's the Janome Sewist 725s. Less to brake on this one but am like a moth to light on the buttonholes on this one. Cost is less on this one too. Thank you for any help and for all your great videos here!!!

    Roxanne, Help, PLEASE. I was cleaning my Singer Quantum 9960 (approx. 8 months old). I took out the bobbin holder, cleaned all around and under the feed dogs, etc.---anywhere there was lint, put it back together and now it won't sew forward just in the same spot and tiny, tiny stitches almost in reverse and the bobbin thread is not advancing. When I use the reverse button it sews in reverse but, again, won't sew forward. I thought maybe in cleaning I'd hit the tack button but that's not it. Also, now the needle threader doesn't line up with the needle. What have I done and where can I start to look?

      Hi cynthia. If the needle is at it's highest position and not aligned, the threader may have slipped down. Try to push it up back into position. If not, it may need to be replaced. It's an inexpensive part that you can snap on yourself.

    • @maryjodickerson8738
      @maryjodickerson8738 8 ปีที่แล้ว

      Sorry no one answered you but I've had this problem. I discovered the thread had gotten unhooked at some point on the winding guide so the bobbin wound badly. If you are winding and it sounds clunky or noisy, the thread is likely out of place somewhere. Stop and rethread and try again with a clean bobbin. It should be smooth and nearly silent.

    • @RoxanneStitches

      Hi Kathleen, the bobbin size for the 9960 is confusing. Some machines come with Class 15 (flat) and others with 15J (domed). Look at the bobbins that came with your machine. If they are flat, they are Class 15. If they are slightly domed, they are 15J.

  • @RoxanneStitches

      @@RoxanneStitches if I am looking at my machine there is a little slit on #1 towards the thread. my sewing looks like the picture at the end of this video. If I move my tension to 15 it seems to sew better. I just can't figure what is going wrong.

    I just bought this machine used and the speed of sewing is slow when I use the foot pedal Even when the speed bar is all the way to the right Its fine when using the manual stop and start. Is there something I'm missing?

      Tension issues usually indicate a threading error. If you have a messy bottom thread it could mean you need a new needle.

    • @RoxanneStitches
      @RoxanneStitches  11 ปีที่แล้ว

      Hi Susan. Yes the brightness can be adjusted. The directions are on page 24 of your manual. Open the top cover of you machine. There's a small dial on top of your machine next to the removable spool pin hole. Turning the dial L will lessen the contrast and to the R will make it brighter.

    Just purchased this machine & I am confused with bobbin size. Singer webpage states this machine uses Bobbin 15 and when ordering parts for this model Bobbin 15 part appears. Also several blogs & Amazon reviews state Bobbin 15. I purchased Bobbin 15 & noticed some issues. Considering your years of experience using this machine have you used both bobbins size 15 & 15J on the machine? If yes, is the company recommending the wrong size?

    • @RoxanneStitches
      @RoxanneStitches  7 ปีที่แล้ว

      Hi Ana. No I have not used Class 15 on my machine ever. My machine came with Class 15J and I've only used Class 15J in my machine. If you have more questions, please call Singer directly.

    Can anyone tell me if there is a such thing as a metal 15j bobbin?, reason asking because one of my bobbins just cracked :-(

    • @RoxanneStitches
      @RoxanneStitches  8 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      +P T-Hamilton HI PT. Sorry to hear about your bobbin cracking. Unfortunately, it seems that this is happening from time to time. Not sure why. Make sure to always inspect your bobbin for cracks before winding. I'm not sure there are metal Class 15J bobbins. I would NOT recommend using them anyway since the bobbin casing is plastic. I'm not sure how a metal spinning bobbin would wear on the casing over time.

      Customer service says to use plain 15 bobbin. Not 15 j. Maybe that is the problem.

    I've only had my machine a few weeks. I tried sewing three layers of a duck/denim like fabric together and my machine made an awful noise. Not sure I have the right stitch length or needle. The needle shank is green which I thought would be good to use. The fabric does not want to move with the feed dogs. Something is wrong -- it's a clanking awful noise. Any suggestions? I'm so afraid of breaking this machine.

    • @RoxanneStitches
      @RoxanneStitches  8 ปีที่แล้ว

      Use a denim needle and lengthen your stitch for sewing heavier weight fabrications. If it's making noises and you think there's something wrong, probably better for you to call Singer since I'm not a sewing machine repair technician.

    Husband bought this machine for my Christmas present. Had not even used the machine but one time and the circuit board went out on it. Received a replacement now having major problems with the decorative stitching the thread twists and turns breaking the thread. I have spent more time threading the machine than sewing. Sorry, I do not recommend this machine. I grew up using Singer products but after all the trouble with this machine will never purchase another Singer.
