    I want to thank you you for all the videos on the 9960. I watched them all over and over before I ever bought my machine which I've owned for nine months. I was able to start sewing right away and use all of the accessories. I didn't have to spend hardly any time on learning. I love my machine. I'm sewing almost everyday. And I love that I can go back to the videos for reference. You made owning my machine so easy.

    You are so good at explaining this, WOW! Thank you so much. Now I have a Guru for my sewing experiments. I have a Singer and it does'nt seem to like me. But I will now go through your videos to understand more. I mean, it doesn't come down to which brand of machine you use, it is how you handle them. Thank you again. You really inspire me!!!

    Thank you for this! I have a slightly newer version of this machine and, with it being the machine I have taught myself to sew on, I thought I was doing a few things wrong. But, I’m not! It is a great machine - it’s just a little finicky. You’re so right about cleaning it as often as you do! The bobbin will act up w the slightest dust. And I’ve had to replace the threader already. I was debating on getting a new machine but now watching this, I think I will tweak how I use it from here on out.

    hi R! love your vids. thank you for doing them. im a long time sewist and bought this mach when my 960 viking died. Wow, what a mach. does everything but make your coffee. been using my mach several yrs now. early on i had to replace the bobbin case wh was $100 on sale back then!(1/3 of the price of the machine!) but it is so much better material than the orig. case. ive replaced the presser foot screw and the thread cutter (it got caught in my quilting!). love the ease of replacing the threader. watched your vid on replacing the knife and, omg! dissassemble the entire machine to replace a blade. ill do it this weekend but only bc it is my favorite mach feature. so, thanks for that video. other mach vids w other machs show a simple little poke releases the blade holder so i couldnt figure how my mach would do it.
    i read this mach is being discontinued now and ive looked for the next one but nothing compares, esp for the price.
    do hope you continue to do vids on this mach. i know that is cheeky of me since we arent paying you for it, but you are making the world a better place.😗
    thank you again. you do this so well. i binge watched all of your vids when i found you. oh, btw, i just got a brother brand open toe walking foot with a quilting guide included AND a hole to attach it on the foot. ($12 on Amazon, $49 at the local shop.) it works perfectly on the 9960 and makes beautiful stitches on the quilting, in case you are allowed to recommend it. hope you are surviving the covid19 and the street riots. be well and safe.

    Decades ago, my husband bought me the Singer Touch-Tronic 2010 with the special sewing cabinet. The machine fitted in it, and it had a lowering device so you could store away your machine once you were done. Sadly, after 40 YEARS, it died on me. I purchased the 9960, but it doesn't fit in my sewing cabinet anymore. Do you know if there are any sewing cabinets that exist that would do the same job my cabinet did for my old Touch Tronic? Thanks for your reply, your videos have save my sewing experience since I did not really like this machine at first.

I have used it to some extent now. Now offlate I could see some thread tangling issues when stitching. I assume it could be because of tension. Do you have any videos/ideas to fix tension in this machine?

    • @RoxanneStitches

      Hi Kanaga. The 9960 has auto tension so you shouldn't have to adjust anything. Make sure to give your machine a good cleaning. Brush it out, no canned air, new needle, and good quality thread. If issues still persist, you many need to seek service.

    Roxanne-my machine is about a year old, I frequently get the beep followed by the computer message to rethread the upper thread. I make sure I am threading the machine correctly. It is very frustrating to stop in a seam and have to rethread the machine. Any cause for this? Thanks

    • @RoxanneStitches
      @RoxanneStitches  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Hi Mark. I'm assuming that you are threading with your presser foot up? Also I'm sure you're not dragging the upper thread back out of the thread path when rethreading? I had someone in my group talk about the same issue as you mentioned and they said it was a bad thread sensor. I'm not sure what that is but think you will need to either call Singer or take it in for service.

      If you misthread, the machine won't function properly and you will know right away. Just rethread correctly. Good beginner machine as long as you take the time to really learn how to use it properly. I don't consider this machine a heavy duty machine.

    Dear Roxanne, thank you so much for this information. I just got my machine and I am very happy with it. But I have find that this machine makes a little mess in the back of my project in the beginning of my sewing, and I don't know if it is because I am back stitching too soon? My other singer computarized machine did not do that at all. That is the only thing that is bothering me about it. Is it something I am doing wrong? And also, I have not been able to make my start/stop button work. on my other machine I could sew with just that button without my foot pedal but with this machine I can't what am I missing? hope you can give me some clarity.... Thank you again!! :)

      Hi Jennifer. Holding your threads as you start sewing helps alot or try using a leader. That's a small piece of fabric that you sew at the beginning or ending. Yes, you will need to unplug your foot control to use the auto pilot feature.

    This is a wonderfully informative video. Thank you so much for taking the time to make it. My question is regarding thickness of material. This machine has been a dream machine for me for a couple of years and this year I plan to make it true. I plan to sew kurt own guinea pig cage liners. Your expert advice: do you think that 1 fleece layer, 2 absorbent layers and 1 backing layer would be too much for it to handle safely?

    • @RoxanneStitches
      @RoxanneStitches  4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Hi Christina. I don't consider the 9960 a heavy duty machine, however with the correct needle, speed and thread it may work out. I'd do a small test with your fabrics to make sure. Good luck.

    I keep trying to find the answer to what bobbin to use. Some say 15 some say 15J. Which is best?

    • @RoxanneStitches
      @RoxanneStitches  4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Hi Deanna. I know it's confusing. Some machines like mine came with 15J other machines come with Class 15. It's not written in the manual either. So what I tell owners is to match the bobbins that came with their machine. 15J are slightly domed, and Class 15 are flat. Singer really is vague on this subject.

      You can shift your needle when your stitching a straight stitch. If you want to shift a zigzag stitch, you will need to reposition your fabric. You can, of course also make the zigzag progressively wider as you sew. I hope this answers your question.

    Thank you for this!
    I just received my machine a few weeks ago and have been trying to get some practice in. I am a beginner in every way- however I did grow up watching and tackling small projects on my mothers machine. One problem that I am having that is becoming very frustrating is my bobbin thread is bunching up at the first few stitches. It leaves a small gob of thread and then seems to work its self out and gives me a nice stitch. Do you know what i may be doing or have you experienced this? What might you suggest to sort this hiccup out!
    And ps... i was worried about my bobbin thread not appearing after i used my cutter, but you eased that concern for me! Thank you!

    • @RoxanneStitches
      @RoxanneStitches  4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Hi Aniela! Congratulations on your new machine. You have 2 options to avoid that knot at the beginning. 1. hold the thread tails as you start to sew or 2. use a leader which is a small piece of fabric that you sew through before the line of stitching on your project.

    Class 15 is a little bigger then the class 15 J. I would not us the 15 J. If you sewing machine binds up do to you putting in the wrong bobbin it with void the warranty. US only parts designed by singer. Of course if you machine is out of warranty and you want to try, it's their machine.
    Regular shop maintenance is not so expansive but when break downs happen they can cost almost as much as the machine was new to fix.

    • @RoxanneStitches
      @RoxanneStitches  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      I've owned my machine for 11 years and it uses class 15J bobbins. It arrived with class 15J, I've used 15J and have never had issues. I always encourage new owners to identify their bobbin size and purchase whichever comes with their unit. I'm aware that new manuals have designated the bobbin size, however older manuals never did. Happy sewing.
