I can't say thank you enough for your videos. You are the best! You really know what a beginner is and you explain everything which others take for granted. You don't talk too fast, your hand movement doesn't rush, and everything is perfect. I am just a beginner and Singer 9960 is the machine I have. I don't have a plan to do quilting, but when I was looking for information on how to use Singer 9960, I found your channel. Please, continue your lesson about this machine or anything about sewing, fabrics, or threads. Thank you, thank you, thank you.
Roxanne, I sew everyday and I have an old old Singer 6234, known as a 'Singer Slant' that I absolutely love (you fill the bobbin right in the machine, cut the thread and go right on sewing, never removing the bobbin from the machine). It's because of this feature that I've held on to the machine for the last 25+ years. I've had to buy all the specialty feet separately and have a good amount of money tied between this and the 6235 heavy duty model. Lately while sewing the bobbin thread has been catching as it draws from the bobbin and the thread locks up the machine. I know it's an adjustment issue as I've been the one who's always tore the machine apart, oiled, adjusted and put it back together again (thanks to my own copy of the service manual) but this time I guess I...just...wanted...something...new. I started researching, reading reviews, watching videos etc., but when I watched your videos I was hooked! You were a BIG part of the reason I chose the Quantum Stylist 9960. Your videos are like taking an on line class and I feel like I have a back-up. So, two things--first, I want to thank you for doing these videos, they're absolutely wonderful. Secondly, is this considered a 'low shank'? My Dad, who's 91 years old, surprised me and bought the Stylist 9960 for me for my 62nd birthday! He said "you had the old one for so long, this will be the last sewing machine you'll have"----and he's probably right! Again, is it considered a 'low shank' machine? It comes with so many feet, but I'll need to know in order to buy additional feet---like that side cutter foot that acts like a serger. Gotta have that! Thanks so much.
Hi Helen! Congratulation on your new 9960! What a thoughtful Dad you have!! Yes this is a low shank machine so unfortunately the slant feet won't be compatible, however the 9960 comes with a fantastic assortment of feet. Glad you enjoyed my videos. Consider joining out active FB Group: "Singer Quantum Stylist 9960 Fans". Thanks for the kind comments.
Roxanne, your videos are very informative, you have a very good voice for these lessons, which makes it easy to understand, AND TO LISTEN TO! Could you do a series of videos for the Pfaff Quilt Expression 720 Sewing Machine?
Hi Lorranine. Thanks you so much for the kind compliments. Just so you know, I pay for all of my own machines. I would love to do a series on the Pfaff 720 and even looked at purchasing the machine, but it's price keeps me away for now. Maybe if I find a reasonably priced 720 one on the secondary market, I would definitely consider it.
I just purchased the singer 8060. I am wondering if I can use these videos to help me with using my singer 8060. I also want to know if you have part 1 in your video play list. Ps. I am totally new to sewing. Thank you
Yes, absolutely. The Singer 8060 is the same machine as the Singer 9960 with a different color front plate. All of my videos will help you get off to a good start. Happy Sewing!!
Just got my Quantum 9960 for Christmas and I love it. I bought it to personalize the machine quilts I make. Is there a way to adjust the lettering? I'd like to make the letters a little taller and closer together. Have not found any info on line so far. Any advise would be great. I have watched almost all of your videos about the 9960 and they are very clear and concise. I do have the manual, but watching you demonstrate has been a life-saver! Many thanks.
Aloha. I live on Maui, Hawaii and figured I'd reach out to you to see if maybe you could help... my Aunts 8060 sewing machine is not working correct... maybe you might know what we could do to fix the problem.... if you could please respond, that would be amazing. thank you in advance.
Hi Sandra! Thank YOU so much for these videos! It has made such a difference for me! I just bought my machine and am taking the time to familiarize myself to this machine. I have always had a basic machine in the past. I expect to be asking lots of questions in the future. For now my question is, When I go to cut my thread using the button I always lose my bobbin thread and have to pull it back up. Should this be happening? If not, what do I need to do to correct this?
Kim, if you are cutting thread with the inside thread cutter (the button) then, yes, the bobbin thread should remain below the plate. It will engage when you start sewing, so no need to pull it up. It's a nice feature when it works!
Great! I've had this machine for two years and just started trying to use it and was lost. So many presser feet and stitches! These videos are do much nicer than the instruction book. Happy sewing!
@roxanne stitches Thanks for making these vids, but have only 1 question (for right now at least 😉): what is stitch number 7 called, I’m assuming it’s a whip stitch? And then what would it be used for? Thanks
@ thank you, b/c I was told whip stitch and used for embroidery and I wasn’t sure if correct, as it reminded me of an old garment maker (hand sewn dresses and suits, w/ repairs and hemming too….alterations) who taught me to really sew and he used a stitch like that as main stitch instead of straight stitch. So I thought maybe my new machine could do that, as got the machine b/c started to have hand pain/issues and diagnosed w/ arthritis years ago. Its now to point can’t really sew by hand anymore and had to go w/ machine. This my 2nd machine as 1st singer kept jamming and bobbin kept tangling w/ top thread etc….and got so frustrated gave up sewing for 2 years and sold that machine last December and just got this new quantum 9960 and been watching vids on how to use. Sorry for long comment, but appreciate your vids, b/c dyslexic and no audiobook for manual, so depend on kindness of ppl who show how to use every feature and setup here in TH-cam. The hand threader tool, AWESOME! And never knew existed till your video. Have good one and keep making those videos🙏🏻✌🏻
Thank you for your helpful videos on the Singer QS9960. I have viewed number 1 through number 16 segments so far. I do have a couple questions. First, what is the function of the little black knob and spring on the regular sewing foot? Also, what does the turtle icon mean on the needle up/down button. I always use the up/down button to bring up the bobbin thread, but when would the turtle (which I assume means "slow") be used? Does it relate to the slide switch for sewing speed?? Looking forward to viewing more segments, especially one on the binding foot.
katstr51 HI Kat! The general purpose sewing foot has the small button and screw set on the back of the foot to help with going over thick areas when sewing. The turtle relates to the slide bar when it's slid over for a slow sewing setting.
Hi Sandra. Sorry you're having problems with your machine. Are you sure you have it threaded properly? If adjusting the tension isn't making a difference, the thread may not being going through the upper tension disk correctly. Also, make sure the bobbin is inserted correctly. Just a reminder that the presser foot needs to be up to disengage the machine tension in order to thread the machine correctly. Hope this helps.
Hello!! All of your videos are very helpful. I am having trouble with the tension on my machine. The bobbin thread is very loose and showing on the top side of my stitching. Did I miss a video where you address an issue like this? Thank you
Brandy Kurth No I haven't had any tension issues with the 9960. Have you checked threading, (top & bobbin) changed the needle, etc.....Did you change anything when you were sewing with elastic? If you've tried common troubleshooting and are still having issues, I suggest you call Singer and see if they can help you. Good luck.
I have the Singer Quantum Stylist 6960 and I have had it worked on 3 different times in the last 3 weeks the Bobbin container (holder) becomes loose, turns 90 degrees and eventually locks up and sometimes brakes the needle Other this this I really like this machine and had no other problems with it until this happened any suggestions There are no Singer repair shops within 400 to 600 miles one direction. I plan on calling Singer Monday 3/26. My mother has had a Singer for 20 years and it is still working great. Do you have any suggestions. I need my machine because I do a lot of Quilting. My machine is less than two years old.
Hi I am trying to sew using a heavy thread (denim) as I am sewing plastic feed bags and it jams. What settings should I be using? I just got the Singer 9960 as my 60+ older machine just was not handling this type of sewing. Thank you, your videos helped me to thread the needle and bobbin load as the manual is hard to follow.
I changed the needle to a size 16 to handle the heavier thread and the machine works great sewing grocery/tote bags out of plastic feed sacks. I may go ahead and get the non slip foot suggested by Singer as well. Thank you
Have hard time making decision on 9985. & 9960 ... Also worried with computerized .. Had a singer sewing machine fo 30 yrs still works but getting wear and tear time for new one ..note sure if these computerized sewing machine will last .. How long you had the 9960 also can any singer depot able to work on these ..do these need maintenance ..and what needs to be done .??? Oh is there any extended warranty for these and is it worth to purchase this warranty ...are these two machine user friendly?
WHat is the differance between the 8060, and the 9960? I keep clicking on the review for the 8060, and it keeps bring up the 9960? Not understanding why.
I've just received my new SQS 9960 today and am on the second video. After following your zigzag demo on my machine, my stitch is puckered. On the back, the top thread is showing far to much. I am practicing on folded muslin. I have followed the threading and bobbin instructions by the Manuel and your video. Adjusting the tension doesn't help either. Do you have any idea what might be causing this?
Hi Roxanne! I just got my 9960 this past April, but I've noticed that the bobbin sounds like it's lose, it sounds like it's gonna break, at any speed. I have re-threaded, and re-spooled, I only use the bobbin that came with machine and Gutermann thread. I even took the plate off and cleaned the lint out. Any suggestions?
Roxanne, I am a new owner of the Quantum 9960, My machine was doing great until I was exploring the stiches. Now the machine makes a stuck sound, the thread on the top of the fabric will come off and the bottom thread (bobbin) is a wad of thread. Can you help me with the Discription I wrote down? I will appreciate any help you can give me. Thank you. Orpha
I got my 9960 for Christmas.......love it but can't get the presser foot to change. It reads simply in manual.....looks simple in your video....but it just doesn't snap on. Am I missing something.
Which presser foot, Susan? The snap on ones should easily go on when you lower the shank, but once in a while mine get misaligned and I have to fidget it into the right place. The specialty feet are another matter, those require the white plastic thing to attach, which she addresses in another video.
Hi Just wondering if you can help me. ... I posted this review about the machine being quiet but the machine is only a month old and it's making a thumping sound when I'm sewing ... I've re threaded several times cleaned the lint changed the needle and bobbin it's not as quiet as when I first bought it do you have any suggestions
It could be a variety of things. Are you using a new needle? What fabric are you using? Sewing heavier fabrics with a larger needle may cause the machine to make more noise. Did you break a needle? Does it do this with all fabrics? Those are my suggestions since you already cleaned the machine. Hope this helps.
Thank you for your videos. I always thought the A presser foot would give me a 1/4" when sewn along the edge. It does not. When I switched to the quilt presser foot, I no longer am able to baste. Correct?
Hi having issues with the alignment. Machine will not sew. I was sewing and it jammed up. I took the plate off and cleaned the area and now when I thread the needle and push start nothing happens. Any suggestions?
TY for replying so fast if I may ask one more question , you say the 15j bobbin is the way to go, I seen so many different reviews some say 15 others 15j only thing people agree on is the wrong bobbin can hurt the machine just not sure which lol and ty again :)
Hello... Help... Question... I am unable to secure the B foot. The presser foot will not pick it up. It appears to be too narrow for the BACK to slip down into it. Have you had any problems with the B? Thank You.. P.S. So, far thanks to you, I've unboxed my new Quantum and am sewing!! Thank you for helping me. Any idea what I could be doing wrong?
Hi Jinka, Sorry to hear you're having problems installing foot B onto your shank. I haven't had this problem. Make sure you're using the metal shank that came with the 9960 and not the plastic shank that was with the value added feet. I suggest giving Singer a call if you have additional questions about this issue.

Thank you for your speedy reply, Roxanne. I will have to work sound that. Is there a space button or can you use the empty box as a spacer?

@roxanne stitches
Thanks for making these vids, but have only 1 question (for right now at least 😉): what is stitch number 7 called, I’m assuming it’s a whip stitch? And then what would it be used for?

Hi vztanir. I'm sorry I don't own the 9980 to give you information about it. I may be somewhat similar to the 9960, but that's the best I can offer.

Hi Emma! I have a video showing how to install the walking foot if that helps. What quilting feature were you interested in? Thanks!
Has anyone tried sewing a patch on a baseball cap with this machine? If so, how is it done? I looked through all the TH-cam videos and I found only gluing and hand sewing videos.

You will need to call Singer or a service tech for help with that.
