    When was the last time you had Tamale Pie? And have you ever had it made with masa harina as opposed to corn bread?🌽 Let me know in the comments because I think it makes a huge difference.😘👌

      No have never thought of using Corn Masa instead of cornbread wish is so delicious 😋 But masa makes a lot sense now for the real tamale taste. I will definitely try it now have some love making corn tortillas so have some on hand. Thanks so much for the informative and the inspiration. Rachel in Corpus Christi new subscriber 🤗

      Never tried it with corn bread.
      My Mom would roll out the masa on wax paper, lay it over the meat in the pan, then peel the wax paper off.

    Thank you! I slow cooked some pork shoulder in red enchilada sauce and Rotel thinking pork soup, Posole? Thinking I needed more meat, I added some Carnitas that I had frozen from a previous meal. Then I was out of control, in went a can of beans for chili. After a couple of meals of that, everything has cooked down to a great tamale pie base, and I needed a topping and a can of corn. Love your presentation, recipe and the music! Tomorrow we have tamale pie!

    Spread the masa between two sheets of parchment paper. Spread by using a rolling pin to the size you need for your baking dish. This goes much faster! Then just flip on to the meat mixture. If it breaks apart, you can just smooth those sections together. Also, roast the corn a bit before adding it to the meat. That really brings out the corn flavor. Pan fry the corn without liquid or oil. It will have a great roasted flavor.

    I had 2 ideas related to this recipe. The first one is, making a 24 tamale batch (4 cups of Maseca for Tamal) but using your meat/corn blend along with the cheddar cheese. The other one is doing these in mini springform pans. Layering the bottoms and sides with corn husk rejects and prepared masa, the meat/cheese layer, and topping with another thin layer of prepared masa. Ideally I will figure out a way to steam them! What a great video Marcy!

I'm thinking the Maseca tamal variation for making tamales will be the best choice. we will be replacing the corn with some drained then oven roasted hominy. we digest hominy easier than whole kernal corn. thanks for sharing.

    Looks delicious have to add to my "make" list. Not that you need to do it on this recipe but curious if ever do the the float test with the masa or just do it by feel?

    • @marcyinspired1442
      @marcyinspired1442  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      That is a great question. I only do the float test when I’m making actual tamales. It’s really important, especially since, whenever I make them, I make multiple dozen. You would hate the masa to be dry. For this tamale pie recipe, I don’t think it’s necessary. I probably could have afforded to add even a little more chicken broth to make it easier to spread, but the consistency turned out perfect. It’s really delicious. Hope you enjoy it.
