    I think this discless Xbox One is very much an answer to a question nobody had asked... hey ho.

      @musicmonkey7676 5 ปีที่แล้ว +6

      Thank you for calling it what it is, "discless," rather than the disturbing trend of calling it DIGITAL, as if the version WITH a disc was somehow analog, like it used VHS tapes or laserdisc or something. Lol!

    • @a531016
      @a531016 5 ปีที่แล้ว

      Personally I agree, I would much rather buy a disk with a game on it, and ocassionally watch a film on a disk. At least have the choice. But Microsft seem to have been out for the disk even before they released the Xbox one. Remeber the issue at the launch event when they said you install from disk and never need it again, but can't resell them?

      @@musicmonkey7676 Blame the entertainment industry for calling discless digital.
      Anyways, going discless makes sense. PC has done it for years, and it's about time console catches up. Plus not every physical copy is guaranteed to come with the full base game, then you have dlc on top of that.

    Ugh! I get so annoyed at this trend for calling things without physical media as being "digital", as if there was an alternate "non-digital" version which was somehow analog. Guess what? CD's, DVD's or Blu- Rays store data DIGITALLY. It is not an analog vs. digital concept when digital data is stored in the cloud, a solid-state hard drive, a rotating hard disk drive, a CD, a DVD, or a Blu-ray. They are ALL DIGITAL. It is annoying. Does a Blu-Ray disc store information in an analog form like laserdiscs did for movies? NO!

    Mod a DVD drive back in pls

    • @superslammer
      @superslammer 5 ปีที่แล้ว

      That most likely won't happen... As with the Xbox 360, its most likely that the drive firmware has to match the motherboard.

    • @xaytana
      @xaytana 5 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@superslammer It's more than likely possible. Disc and discless are the same model, same board, etc. Only discless doesn't have the drive and instead has a couple of extra bits; it's literally the same as if someone took their disc One S and removed the drive.
      It's also not that hard to source oem parts anyways, there's donor systems and various resellers online, and even if you can't source a One S drive, you can more than likely source the same oem drive under a brand name.

    • @tech34756
      @tech34756 5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@xaytana What Bill Sargent is referring to is that on the 360, every DVD drive has a unique key which is tied to the motherboard.
      So if the DVD player's drive key doesn't match the motherboard's DVD drive key, it won't work.
      If the Xbone has a similar system in place, then you would need an OS hack to be able to get it to work even if you have the right parts.
      It wouldn't surprise me if the OS has also been modified/updated to disable drive functionality if it detects that it's a SAD edition via some kind of flag alongside the serial number, etc.

    • @superslammer
      @superslammer 5 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@tech34756 Yes. What you said. -- I just tossed an xbox 360 that some kids tried to "hack" and they flashed the dvd drive with some odd firmware that made it useless and I'm guessing they didn't write down the key. -- for a long time i was thinking there was a way to get a serial console hooked up to see the boot process and get the motherboard key, but i gave up on that and tossed it.

    • @tech34756
      @tech34756 5 ปีที่แล้ว

      Bill Sargent These days the easiest way to get the key is to RGH it and dump the keys from the motherboard.

      Depending on the drive/circumstance.

    it isnt as simple as slapping a salvaged Xbox One S Disc Drive, you'd haveto deal w/ marrying the drive to the board. i can bet theres verry slight Firmware changes on the system just to identify this is an "Digital Edition" so it doesnt fail at bootup from a missing Disc drive(given even back w/ the OG Xbox and the 360, No Disc Drive/fried drive? No full bootup. so they cheapened out almost all the way.
    if microsoft designed the One S(Disc) systems to continue to function w/o its Disc Drive, then all the "All Digital" edition's would be is just the normal One S's w/ a new case.

    • @alexatkin
      @alexatkin 5 ปีที่แล้ว

      Because it would cost more to design a new chip and casing with it removed, than it is to just keep it.
      The time to remove it was when they designed Xbox One S, that time has passed.
      The real joke is it on the Xbox One X as it doesn't support 4K input.
