Aloha Misty, just catching up on your videos. I love these types of stores you can always get some good ready to go foods. Mahalo for showing this, I had never heard of them before.
Hello Misty! Thank you for the tour! Aloha from Osaka, Japan! I lived in Hawaii for over 30 years before I moved back to Japan. I had heard Tokyo Central opened up in Kailua, so I wanted to see a review of it. Your video was perfect! Thank you! 😊
Aloha Takami! Wow so cool that you live in Osaka now! We went there in March and the food is amazing. 🤌 I'm glad my videos helped you see what Tokyo Central looks like in Kailua. Thank you for watching. 🙏
Belated congrats on 10K you deserve it for all your hard work. Glad to see you are at 12K now !! Much appreciated and always enjoy your videos. Great video and tips on parking. Supermarket videos are always fun to view.
Hi Misty! Thanks so much for the tour - you saved me some gas 😊 BTW, loved your glasses at the beginning of the video 🙊😎😂 Cant wait to see where you end up next! Have a blessed weekend sis, and hope you get some rest 🤙♥️🤙
Mahalo Linda! The glasses are cheapo glasses from Amazon. Lol. That way if I drop and scratch them I won't be sad like if they were Oakleys. I'm glad I saved you gas but nice to see if you are ever on this side for another reason. I have many adventures next month so stay tuned. By the time they get edited it'll come out on the last week of June. Have a great weekend. 😊🤙🙏
Thanks Misty for featuring Tokyo Central Kailua, just watched your video. My girls friends and I will check it out. Looks like our next excursion will be Kailua, hope I don't get lost, coming from the Westside. You did another excellent vlog for this store. Thank you much! Keep your videos coming, appreciate it.
Aloha Misty!! We saw this on the local news and was wondering how it was and if they had good eats. It was great to see the inside and see what it’s all about. We don’t have a problem paying more for quality ingredients and delicious eats!! Mahalo for showcasing this spot for those of us who were curious!! 🤙🏽
Aloha Michelle & Jose! Yes a good option for Japanese food to eat and take to the beach if you're visiting Kailua. I think it's a nice place to browse if you are in the area! Have a great weekend! 🤙
Aloha Misty!! Mahalo for saving me a trip here since I go to Kailua Beach and would've stopped by out of curiosity. And you're right. It's challenging to film in here because I remember Don Quiote stopped me from vlogging near Ala Moana. I agree that I would stick with going to Don Quiote if anything. This also seems to cater more to the Japanese tourists. Thanks again Misty for covering Oahu.. both old and new👍🤙
Aloha Sean! Yes I think DQ and Marukai os bigger with more selections. But since you're always in Kailua and Kaneohe it is convenient that it is closer to you if you ever need Japanese stuff like fruikake, snacks etc! No need drive into town. Thanks for watching again Sean! Have a great week and take care. Hope Nhi is doing well. 🤙
Aloha Misty ! I stop-by Don Quijote, Tokyo-Central, & Marukai every chance get. The Tokyo-Central I visit in West Covina is much larger than Kailua's. None of these in the town I live in... but usually while driving on vacation. I doubt I'll visit Tokyo-Central in Kailua tho... as we'll be staying in the Leeward side. Thanks for this clip... always enjoy your Vlogs. DK
Aloha Doug! Yes too far from the Leeward side and since you already have the huge one in California. They are opening a new DQ in the old Kmart in Kapolei. Not sure if it will be done by the time you visit again. But that's a closer option.
Aloha Misty! We were there a week ago and it was packed on a Saturday around noon. They actually have the wagyu in the refrigerator cases located accros the fresh meat sections. Enjoying your vlogs 🤙🏽
Thanks for another great video! I live in Pearl City, so Don Quixote and H Mart are right around the corner. Still wouldn’t mind checking this place out, but appreciate your advice and won’t be making the journey over to the windward side just for this store. Maybe will go next time I’m down there having Times Coffee Shop anyway. Love their potato mac salad and fried rice. Ever review the Kailua or Kaneohe locations of TCS? It’s a great breakfast/brunch spot!
Aloha! I haven't done a review of Times Coffee Shop video wise. But always used to eat there when I used to go to Kaneohe court for work. I like the food. 🤙
Yummy Goodness Eats !!! We gotta do a road trip to LA to get to one ! Nice it's in Hawaii ! There's so much more of a selection in Hawaii ! Mahalo for sharing Misty !
Thank you so much for your tour of the new market. I live in Kaneohe and have not had a chance to visit the new store. I used to live in Kailua for 25 years and shopped at Time’s Market a lot. Thank you again for the video😊
That parking lot has always been crazy. Thank you Misty for this tour. I was wondering and now I know. I have to go there soon. I already see stuff I wanna get. I love unagi too.
Aloha Misty: Nice to see you enjoying a great-quality sashimi, which would have gone great with some cold Sapporo - LOL! This vlog brings back a lot of memories of the Marukai Market across from the correctional facility in Kalihi. The store does have a good selection of ready-made meals and a good selection of Japanese-based food selection. This reminds me to visit the Don Quijoti store on the next trip home! Luckily, we have several Japanese grocery stores in the SF Bay Area to satisfy my needs for Japanese-inspired dishes; however, I miss the fresh ahi at the markets of home. I am looking forward to the next vlog! Best wishes and much 🤙, to you and Aiden! Take care fellow 🐯!
Aloha Bill! Yes nice products and owned by DQ which also now owns Marukai and Times Supermarket. The Windward people finally have a Japanese store to go to for their goods. So happy for them. Have a great weekend Tiger and take care! 🤙😊👍
For as much as i'm at every grocery store to keep up with my teenaged boy's appetite (and i dread the chore), i actually found this video relaxing 💆♀️. Maybe because i'm usually racing around with an overloaded cart like a contestant on Supermarket Sweep and i rarely get to leisurely stroll and just look at stuff, which as a foodie i find interesting😳😅. Enjoyed that about this vid 👍!
That's me in real life. Always in a rush. And one time they changed the layout of the store and I have my set ways of grabbing stuff. I was so irraz because it took me longer to grab the stuff I needed. Everyone was lost for a week it was funny.
Thank you for featuring TC! I was planning to make it out there one day, but you gave a great preview! I'm jealous now....I wish ALL Times would turn into TC's! It's much like DQ in terms of variety! As far as the sushi and poke quality, it really depends on who is making it. Unlike Zippy's for example, where the food is made in a central kitchen, DQ, Times, and I assume TC makes it on location. I know, for example, the sushi at the Kaheka DQ is much better than Waipahu because the rice is not packed too hard. But the poke at Waipahu is better than Kaheka. BTW, at 4:33, the logo on the packaging that looks like a sideways "T" with quotation marks in the upper right, that's the Japanese katakana for "DO." It means it is a Don Quijote brand. You'll see it on various products.
Ah! Interesting to see the DQ brand. I'd like to try those chips one day but my waist says no. 🤣 I had a friend that used to work in the kitchen in Pearl City, but left. So I know what you mean about different cooks and preps at different locations.
Negitoro is typically toro grade Ahi, that is left after filleting as you mentioned, and it’s usually the spoon scraped parts off of the bones, and of course the negi is the green onion. (serious run-on sentence there). Negitoro sushi rolls are my fave because of the taste contrast and the crunch of the nori! Keep up the great videos! 🤙🏽
Hi Misty , Tokyo Central interesting store ! A bit of everything. Kailua I think is a bit underestimated by the average tourist , there is certainly some good eat places there and lovely beaches. It’s only an hour and a half by TheBus from Waikiki ! You quickly gained more subs beyond 10,000 ! Before you know it you will have 15 to 20K Cheers Rod 🤙
Hi Rod! Yes it's a beautiful area and if you catch the bus you don't have to worry about parking. Thanks so much! Yes almost to 12k now. Suddenly more people subbed which was surprising! Have a great weekend!
You're welcome! I haven't been in a while but had the Motorola at the DQ in town so I'm not sure if you live on the windward side. You can get the same in town.
Well stocked and clean. Wish we had one in our city. Our Asian market only sells Asian products unlike Hmart, which is in bigger cities, that pretty much sells everything.
Yes Hmart, 99 Ranch, Seafood City and Don Quijotes are all super huge with a variety of Asian and American products that make shopping easy. Too bad they aren't everywhere near smaller towns.
I was wondering how different this is from Marukai or even Don Quixote which reminds me of the old plantation store that has everything, sorta like Arakawas. . I need to make a trip from Mililani. Thanks so much!
Hey Misty, that’s interesting that they’re owned by Don Quijote! Thanks for doing the video, great that there’s another choice to shop at for Asian stuff!!
14:09, negitoro is minced raw tuna scrape, the fatty parts of the fish that cannot be made into other meals, commonly served together with green onions.
Hi again Misty. Have you been to Kapolei Sushi Bay? I gotta say I been to Genki and to me, Sushi Bay clearly blows them out of the water. I'm so addicted to the freshness of their fish and so very generous cuts. Hopefully you been there. Plan to wait a few mins for a seat. They open at 11 and close 5pm for dine, take outs til 6pm. I highly recommend.
Aloha Susan. Yes I have been to Sushi Bay when I used to live in Kapolei. It is very good and there are long lines. Unfortunately I don't go to Kapolei much since I moved, but I agree on the quality of the fish.
Interesting their importing from Scotland and Canada instead of Alaska and US, must have gotten a better deal. I usually avoid Poke bowls but that spicy dish looked very good. Thanks for showing us the new grocery store!
They had wagyu. I went today also. They just have so much items in randoms places you have to look for them. I used to shop at Times 4 time a week so it has been an adjustment for me. For the most part they narrowed down the assortment of goods but they have 1 or 2 of most.
Oh no! The one I went to was at 600 William S Canning Blvd, Fall River, MA 02721near the RI border. But I went early in the morning and asked for where it was because they do look similar to the jelly donut. If you have time you should try Miguel's in New Bedford. He did say he made malasadas on Saturdays.
Yup that was the unagi kabayaki great pupu for beer! Ooh the oden is bomb if you like fish cake. I like the Marukai store better for selection. That unagi looked good! Nice video! Hope to see you tonight!
Sweet. I gotta take my mom there one weekend. The otoro really looks good. We tried the one from Donqi in town and was really disappointed, 2 times. I like negi toro sushi, not sure if I want to eat a bowl of it though. Looks good though.
@FoodFiend had it maybe 4 years ago or so. The rice was really bad, talked to a manager and changed the rice that they were using so maybe it was after that?
I donʻt know if you shop at Marukai, but everything looks like what they sell at Don Quijote and Marukai in Honolulu (which makes sense because they are the same owners). Not sure what things are exclusively for Tokyo Central. Maybe itʻs just a more convenient Japanese/Local grocery store for the Kailua residents and visitors crowd..
The green onions is the negi...Japan love their negi. Especially if you go to the mom and pop restaurants...They heap negi into the ramen bowls when they serve.
I used to order online from Tokyo Central in CA until they ceased their online ordering a few years ago, so now I order from the Weee app for anything I can’t get locally or I’ll have to drive 1.5 hours to the Uwajimaya market.
I've had it a couple of years ago and the spicy ahi was ok. But it may vary from location or who preps it. I'm spoiled and go to Tamura's if I want poke which isn't too often. Maybe once a month. It's good and close for me.
First and foremost, I let all the ads play. That took an extra 30 minutes of my life. I can't get that back.😅 The last thing you ate reminded me of processed meats. All the leftovers. It was a good video. I appreciate you and what you bring to the foodie scene. Also, if I may say this to all the folks crying about the prices. If they rented a hotel for a week there and went out to eat. They would pass out and they would be in a supermarket. IJS here is some 🍷 for all that crying. Get a life. Everywhere is different. Misty do you girl. Next outro, can you play the 🎸? Don't kill me. 😅
Haha thanks for playing the ads. Now I'm 10 cents richer! Now I can go eat at Gaslamp and pay for shoe leather steak again. 🤣 I don't think I'll play guitar as an outdoor though. 🎸 maybe the 🎻 to go with the wine and cheese.
Great Review! I hope this doesnt add to the dismay of having to much Japan Tourists inundating Kailua Town. I'm betting now the Purveyors wish they were back in Droves. Their Economy will hopefully get better soon.
Understand Dq bought out all times stores so I guess Japanese ‘ invasion’ is expected. I like to see more Singaporean Malay being Indonesian born Chinese 😂 the curry is different and just right in spicier more of the traditional Malay njonja school.
That would be a great store to have Indo Malay Singaporean ingredients and noodles. I know there was a store near Dillingham that had stuff like that but due to the rail said they were not getting business. I'm not sure if they're still in business now.
I love your honest reviews and explanations. You also have an amazingly comforting voice.
Thank you!
Aloha Misty, just catching up on your videos. I love these types of stores you can always get some good ready to go foods. Mahalo for showing this, I had never heard of them before.

Awesome. Added to my list!
Yay!
FYI, Negi means green onions & toro means fatty tuna (as you know), so Negi-toro is chopped toro (bits & side pcs) mixed with chopped green onions.
Mahalo for the information.
Hey Misty, that’s interesting that they’re owned by Don Quijote! Thanks for doing the video, great that there’s another choice to shop at for Asian stuff!!
Yes more choices are not a bad thing. 😊
14:09, negitoro is minced raw tuna scrape, the fatty parts of the fish that cannot be made into other meals, commonly served together with green onions.

They had wagyu. I went today also. They just have so much items in randoms places you have to look for them. I used to shop at Times 4 time a week so it has been an adjustment for me. For the most part they narrowed down the assortment of goods but they have 1 or 2 of most.

Thanks for the tour. Kailua is not my go-to place anyway. Much rather go to Don Quijote. Appreciate the honest review.
You're welcome. 🤙
Misty, I forgot to mention- I believe you get what you pay for, I don’t mind paying the price for quality!!! Right!!?? 😊
Spot on Dave!
I pretended i was eating the big toro sushi! ❤
❤️ Toro mukbang! 😊
First and foremost, I let all the ads play. That took an extra 30 minutes of my life. I can't get that back.😅
The last thing you ate reminded me of processed meats.
You picked well! Store looks like HMart tbh.
Thank you! Yes kinda like that but no Korean products except the liquor.
It's actually across Down to Earth
Mahalo for the correction.
Misty- negitoro is fatty tuna with green onion. negi means green onion...
Thanks for the information. 🤙
Great Review! I hope this doesnt add to the dismay of having to much Japan Tourists inundating Kailua Town. I'm betting now the Purveyors wish they were back in Droves.
Their Economy will hopefully get better soon.
For fresh ahi poke...Tamuras, Wahiawa....Da Bestest!...if they only have frozen fish, they discount the price and tell you they using frozen fish.
I agreement Tamura's is my go to. I am fortunate to live 5 mins away from one and I'm there like 3 times a week...but for beer too 🤣
Fish fat is the good fat Omega-3’s, so no worries, it’s like vitamins😊.
That's a positive way to view it! I like that. 😊
the sushi looks mayjahhhhh fk i wish was on the west side
Yes it was 🔥
🤙🏾🤙🏾🤙🏾
HAU’OLI 5th LA HANAU‼️🤙🏽
Much Mahalo! Doesn't seem like 5 years 😊
Understand Dq bought out all times stores so I guess Japanese ‘ invasion’ is expected.
@@FoodFiend yes a little market with jap n taiwangroceries. Not bad ,
