She didn’t tell her kids about the money, but she gave a scammer a million dollars. The bank isn’t responsible for poor decisions.

Yes, the bank is aware of the scam that occurs almost everyday. She is elderly that the bank should have noticed & stopped her or intervened. You don't have to be a banker to do that. You just need to be human with compassion or care. And you are none of that.

    • @DistrustHumanz

@tl1533 That doesn't work. I've tried explaining how to not fall for scam many, many, many, many times. She won't listen. The bank, nor I, have any legal right to stop her transactions. When we both tried, she claimed victimhood and threatened legal action. There is no solution other than to sit back and take care of her after all of her money is gone.

@@tl1533 no…that isn’t true. My mom is also elderly and and scammers contact her each day, but banks conduct thousands of transactions each day. Since it was her account, if she wanted to pull money out of her account and give her life savings to a stranger, that is on her. If my gave away her assets to stranger, the banks can’t stop her if she signs the paperwork. She should had talked to kids about it, especially when she took a loan against her house.

I am 82 and cannot understand how people with this much life experience can be so stupid. I do not and never have trusted anyone. My wife is on the verge of mental decline, I taught her to hang up the phone if she does not know who is calling. I also taught her to show me any strange email, particularly involving money. The bank accounts are all on my computer and my phone is used for the code. Being old doesn't always mean stupid, ignorant, or sucker.

Huh? First of all, you cannot even withdraw more than $10,000 without the Federal government being notified by the Bank and you are limited to 10k per day. @alexskatit4188 3 หลายเดือนก่อน

@@Denniss7420 Incorrect. That is only for CASH transactions (withdrawals and deposits) and you are not limited. The bank simply has to keep a "cash transaction record" on file and only report it if it is suspicious. It does not apply to wires and checks. People withdraw large amounts every day for cars and other large purchases or to deposit at another bank. The CASH reporting is to keep an eye on possible money laundering. I have managed bank branches for decades.

Such a shame. I think the epidemic of loneliness among older people, especially is a major part of the problem. People who are lonely are more susceptible to these types of scams. It's not only about intelligence, at this point. Many smart, savvy people have been scammed. Emotional maturity, discernment and a community of friends, family and financial professionals (who are reputable and ethical) is how a lot of this can be prevented.

This was more stupidity than the scam. “ I need to pray on the 20k” but looses 1 million. 🤦🏻‍♂️
