90% of the management consultante are hired from IIMs and Top B schoold rest 10% are lucky buddies like these which are from SRCC, Stephens, Hansraj, IITs, CAs, CFAs with a lot of internship experience in big companies.
People always ignore SSCBS which is rank 1 undergrad B school in India. Bain and company literally takes around 40 students from there every year. Mc Kinsey takes few of them and dont know about BCG. Big 4 takes them as well.

You study Engineering in an IIT. But once you graduate, you become a Management Consultant. BTW why did you study Engineering, that too in an IIT? If this logic/analogy holds merit, then should someone wish to become an Engineer, he/she is better off studying BCom, BBA, or BBM in a renowned Management College and later sit for GATE to pursue MTech in an IIT. I suppose Entry-level salary for such an Engineer will be at least 50LPA. 😊
Ask in hand salary.. Pakage is scam. One of my friend has 40LPA package but his in-hand salary is around 1.4 lakhs per month. By that measure their in-hand salary would be about 90K per month.
Tech role salary are usually very inflated. Commerce field salaries are not usually inflated because many dont provide stock options, etc. You can consider like 70-80% of CTC as base salary. So in hand will be like 1 to 1.3 LPM.

On other hand it's very difficult for outsiders to get into McKinsey Bain etc. even experienced guys cause those firms only prefer people with experience in similar companies!!
