The speech between Rocky and his son outside the restaurant stands out as one of the epic speeches of modern cinema.

The speech rocky gives to his son is one of the greatest speeches ever. It actually helped motivate and save my life when I was at my lowest, I rewatch it everyday to remind myself to keep moving forward and never give up.
I think about those words most days if I'm honest.
Yeah, but after that great speech, see where they took Rocky and Robert’s relationship in the Creed movies.
I read that speech for my mom's eulogy in May. She absolutely lived by this, despite chronic pain and then Parkinson's, she kept moving forward.

First 'Rocky' film I saw in cinemas and maybe the greatest cinema experience I've ever had...
Went opening night, the queue was leading out of the building. The film was better than anyone could have imagined, applause when the training montage hit and a second applause when he first knocks Mason down. And THAT speech is one of the most inspiring things I've ever heard and something I try to live by.
I never watched this one until the week before Creed released.

I read in a interview where Talia Shire agreed with the idea of Adrian passed away before this movie happens.... She said that (summarized) "It would make no sense for Rocky to fight if Adrian was alive" and when asked if she felt bad about being left out of the movie, she replied "The whole movie is about Adrian"
But it was confusing
It shouldn't be underestimated how much this brought Stallone back from the wilderness and also how this gave rise to the belated/legacy sequel trend.
even his Rambo got a good sequel (and the last one is not bad, better than the third).

@@tomhoffman4330 the first, fourth and fifth are my favorites. The second and third are their own thing, and yes, have some value to them, but I find the fourth and fifth go in the kind of direction I prefer for him (even if I do have some issues with the fifth).

That is Max Kellerman, and he is a boxing expert, historian, commentator and a huge fan of the Rocky movies. He calls Rocky 3 his favorite boxing movie of all time.
The platonic friendship between Rocky and Little Marie in this movie is an underrated element IMO. Just not that often movies show us a relationship like that without making it romantic.
I agree. It would've been so easy to make her rockys new love interest, but I'm glad they didn't go that route. Plus, it highlights how deep rockys love for Adrian goes to show that even in death, he won't allow himself to love anyone else because both rocky and Adrian brought out the best in each other.

Spider Rico, the old man washing dishes, was in the first scenes of the first movie, btw.
Btw, George Foreman's last professional fight, he was almost 49 years of age. He fought Shannon Briggs who was 25. The fight went the full 12 rounds. Briggs won a somewhat controversial majority decision, despite Foreman's stats showing a much higher percentage of punches landed.
Two of the three judges at ringside were Ray Charles and Stevie Wonder.
It's the only explanation as to how Shannon won that fight.

@@TheRetroManRandySavage one of the main commentary teams had it Foreman 8 rounds to Briggs' 4. That's not even close to Briggs being possibly in front.

An interesting thing about Rocky Marciano is that, for decades, people have said that he had no skill or technique and won his fights through raw brute strength and toughness. However, more recent analyses of his fights have found that his fighting style was so unorthodox that people didn't recognize that it contained a great deal of technique and strategy. For instance, the seemingly awkward way he moved and carried himself actually helped him evade and deflect incoming punches and enabled him to generate sudden explosive power in his own punches.

The speech between Rocky and his son is something that I live by still today. I have it written in my room and see it everyday so I remember that I will always be knocked down, but to never give up fighting.
My favorite scene is where Rocky sees Mickey in his corner admonishing Rocky to "Go through him! Run over him!" A plan for many of Life's challenges.
You have a genuine appearance and reaction. You look like you're a true friend to those in your life
George Foreman was an absolute legend who first won the heavyweight championship in 1973 and then lost it to the great Muhammad Ali. He made a comeback years later and shocked everyone by winning the heavyweight title in the 90s at the age of 45 against the 26-year-old champ. Foreman didn't even look like he used to, being really overweight and slow at that point but he still had ridiculous power in his hands and got a KO.
Hence the popularity of the George Foreman grill in the aftermath
Something that not a lot of people these days know -- Clubber Lang SEEMS like a Mike Tyson analogue, but Mike hadn't gone pro yet and was still with Cus D'Amato and a LOT calmer in those days. Lang was based on _Foreman._ And just like Mr. T became a lovable guy after Rocky 3, George Foreman became a lovable guy in his older age.
I remember watching the Forman fight, I think in 1994 or 95 against Michael Moore with my brother and dad. If I remember, Forman was known for his size and power. He actually retired a few times but often went back as he needed the money. His first retirement was in the late 70's after he collapsed and almost died after a fight.
I love watching you enjoy these films... takes me back to when they were new to me, .but I can't wait till we get to CREED II
Really cool that they got the same actor who played Spider Rico from the first film to reprise his role for this. 🕷️🥊
But it ain't about how many strikes you're hit with. It's about how many strikes you can get hit with and keep moving forward; how much you can take and keep moving forward. That's how winning is done! 💜🥊
This is the perfect finale for the Rocky series. I was surprised by how much I enjoyed it. We got that Epic Dad to Son Golden Speech! Rocky didn't win the fight but didn't care. He gave a great performance, gave himself peace of mind, and that was his goal.
The crowd learned to respect Mason for pushing himself hard by fighting with a broken hand. It was a win-win fight for both Rocky and Mason.
There is a phrase that says "Its better to be a warrior in a garden than a gardner in a war". Rocky is the classic good guy that could just waste you in a fight, but he could also save your ass if you need it. That speach to his son is one of the greatest movie monologues ever. Classic American hero.
Something a lot of people miss - Rocky having Spider Rico working at the restaurant. Spider Rico, the boxer from the first movie who head-butted him in the opening scene. That's the goodness of Rocky.

I love how, out of all the announcers, the young one is just a huge Rocky fan and ignores how much the other two mock him.

I was born in 76 so Rocky has always been a part of my life. I remember seeing this in the theater and as a 30 year old male I was sitting there crying. The Rocky movies have so much heart and know just how to tug at your emotions in a good way. The deaths of Mickey and Apollo in 3 and 4 were like losing good friends. When this opened with Adrian being gone, I felt like I had lost a close relative. Such a great end to the Rocky series. I can't wait to see your reaction to the Creed films!
This was the perfect conclusion to Rocky’s story (as a fighter). I still get emotional when I watch it

George Foreman made a late career comeback at 45 & is the oldest boxer ever to become heavyweight champion. He definitely wasn't anywhere near fast anymore but he was damn strong.

Why do I love Jen so much? She gets it! She understands the movie. I've seen so many reactors being so butthurt about Adrian being dead that they completely missed the rest of the movie and its whole beauty. Jen didn't. She took the hit yet kept moving forward. Also, if you want to see one of this movie's most touching scene, which was cut out of the movie for some reason I really can't fathom, look up Paulie misses Adrian. And have tissues handy. 😉
In case you never noticed, the guy that was in the corner was Tony Duke Evers. He was Apollo's trainer from the first movie and has appeared in all of the films. He was the one in the first film that was paying attention to Rocky and tried to tell Apollo he meant business.

Great reaction Jen. You're right. This was the perfect way to wrap up the Rocky series. V was a disappointment, so going back, reconnecting with Little Marie, helping out Spider, (who Rocky fought in the first fight in the first movie), and losing a split decision, (just like in the first one), made the journey feel complete.
George Foreman was in his 40s when he made his comeback. Sly might have been a lot older than that when he made the movie. 😊

My favorite Rocky movie. I love how the fight is presented as a real HBO PPV broadcast, with the real broadcast team and everything. This was a great in-theater experience.

Rocky talking to Paulie prior to wanting to fight again. I can relate. We can all relate to some extent I imagine.
It's said that we all have a soulmate, so when your soulmate is taken away without just cause, it's something you live with the rest of your life. That's the sort of thing that lives in my "basement" and I don't wish that on my worst enemy. Life isn't fair, it sucks most every day, but the good days make you wake up and crave another good day.
And as Rocky says perfectly in part of his speech to his son ""But it ain’t about how hard you hit. It’s about how hard you can get hit and keep moving forward."

Rocky accepted the name "Punchy" for his dog because that's what he used to be called by people. "Once it's in your head you never forget it." That line says a lot. He didn't like the name at the time, but at this point he just owns it.

Jen, the final fight was filmed in Vegas in front of an audience who were there for a real fight, filmed by the HBO crew to make it look as if it were a fight you’d actually see today.

Any day watching a 'Rocky' film is a good day in my book.
They reference George Foreman, he literally shocked the world when he came back after 10 years away being a preacher and fought his way back in to heavy weight contention, constantly talked about in the way Rocky was here, as a joke, and then at 46 years old he knocked out the Heavy Weight World Champion, Michael Moorer and regained the Heavy Weight World Champion title he lost to Muhammad Ali 21 years earlier.

Just rewatched this last night. So good. Rocky is the greatest character in cinema. It's like he is there to simply show us and inspire us how to be the best possible person in an often crappy world. Yes he is in the first two Creed movies which are both good.

This movie holds a special place in my heart. I watched it in the theatre a short time after my father passed, and I just wanted the kid to have a better relationship with his dad. As for your question about breaking hands and continuing to fight, I've watched several boxing matches where the fighter broke their hand. They went to the corner and were asked by their corner men if they could still go. They answered yes, so the corner men gave the fighter advice, changing their tactics on the fly so that they could continue fighting. Pugilism is a tough profession.
Awesome reaction to this, a great movie!!! Can remember seeing this movie in the theater when it first came out. Not many people were expecting much from this movie and pretty much everyone in the audience was making crude jokes - I even did not expect much from this movie either. While the movie was playing, the audience was talking, being rude, and other stuff going on. As the movie progressed, the jokes were slowly stopping until they eventually ended as the audience was becoming enthralled by the goings-on. When the movie ended pert near everyone was clapping and saying how much they enjoyed the movie and glad that it really was an awesome FAREWELL to a beloved character. This was probably one of Stallones top 10 performances!!
Little Marie is played by the same actress that played her in the first movie.

I'm not a boxing fan but I remember the name of former champion, George Foreman. I vaguely remember his a a figure from my childhood, I think. Then, well into my adulthood and second career, he decided to make a comeback. Our local sports announcer on the CBS affiliate was a big boxing guy. He wished foreman well but thought he didn't have a chance. I have never seen somebody so happy as when Foreman won again. Now, I am in my 60s. I still don't care for boxing but thinking of what Foreman did is an inspiration.
Being someobe who boxed for 7 yrs yes I can confirm they will not stop fight if you break your hand it's really at you and your corners discretion but when it's numb you can throw it as hard as you want and won't feel anything 😂😂😂

Antonio Tarver was an older fighter in this movie . By the time it was released he was 35 or 36 but its still a baby compared to Rocky. Also He was a light heavyweight and after this movie he moved to heavyweight because its hard to drop the weight he gained for the movie
I would say the Creed movies are definitely worth watching as well, it's part of the whole saga still so you should see it through. I completely agree with you, this movie really was the perfect way to wrap it up, it couldn't have been more satisfying, except of course if Adrian hadn't died. It does definitely go back to the original movie's tone more, but is still very much doing it's own thing and feels fresh. I feel your sadness learning about Adrian , and the walk around all the places from the original movie, all the flashbacks just get me every time too. I also like how Paulie found a hobby in painting, and when Rocky is talking to him about the beast in the basement, it almost seems like Paulie had taken some therapy sessions or something, because his whole demeanor changed and was genuinely helping Rocky figure it out, but sounded like he was asking questions that he may have heard from his therapist. I'm really glad Duke was back Training Rocky, it was good to see familiar faces, the legacy characters. I just want to thank you Jen as we finish this journey of epic movies, it has been an absolute pleasure watching these films with you, you are one of my reactors, you appreciate all the little things in movies I do, the music and special moments, and it makes for a really special experience, so thank you.
i grew up with rocky movies only on vhs, and i regret not seeing this movie when it was in theaters.
In the original script Adrian was still alive, but they thought for the development of the Rocky character she should be deceased. In an interview Talia Shire (Adrian) agreed it was the best thing for the film. Even though Adrian is not here, it is still a Rocky love story. The actor that played Duke (Tony Burton) also passed away, in 2016. Paulie (Burt Young) passed away last year. He was a boxer in the military and had his own restaurant like Rocky here.

Burt Young(Paulie) was a bit of a renaissance Man.He was an accomplished artist, an author and a very decent boxer who trained under Angelo Dundee (Ali's trainer.)He won 32 out of 34 fights as an amateur,and 16 or 17 fights(unbeaten) as a pro.Looks can be deceiving. RIP.

I have friends who watch TH-cam videos and never "like" them, even ones they love. I don't know why. but I loved the way you said the "kid" about Dixon, when he's probably a decade older than you😆
This is one of my favorite films in the franchise. It's got such heart. I think for a long time it was supremely underrated. It's about heart and not giving up. Both fighters. Dixon has to learn it. Rocky has to show it.

Adrian is in it. Her character permeates the entire movie.
This is my personal favorite Rocky movie. I really like that they cast a real boxer to play Mason Dixon. At the time Antonio Tarver was considered the best pound for pound boxer in the world. Since you like these Rocky movies. When you have the chance you should check out the movie "Warrior". It came out in 2011. It is highly underrated. It stars Tom Hardy and Joel Edgerton. They play estranged brothers who are MMA fighters. It has a very powerful story of family and redemption, similar to a Rocky movie. I think you would really like it.
Robert was always closer to Adrian then he was with Rocky and after Adrian died their relationship drifted apart since they had different persoanalities and Robert having to live in the shadow of his father.
