The new Panigale V4 2025 is quite controversial. So when opportunity knocked last weekend, I packed my camera, drove to Hockenheim and recorded the brand-new superbike in proper 4K. Enjoy! 😊 What are your thoughts on the design? th-cam.com/video/dgdLBJotm-w/w-d-xo.html
I think the 999 is a masterpiece. The way the design flows together and into itself so organically, I find it more beautiful and attention grabbing than any of the bikes that came before it or after it.
I still feel the 916 looks better as a whole, but it has been imitated a lot, whereas the 999 is still kind of unique. And I love a lot of the details, from the tail to the tank!
I am an outdoorsman and love dogs and wilderness. That's my love. But the first time I saw a Ducati 999. It was just like my first crush. It is difficult to describe in words. But I get butterflies in my stomach when someone says Ducati 999! This is the most beautiful bike ever made !!
Totally underrated design. I recently had a colleague over and we took a look at my 916. Then I just removed half the tarp of the 999 to show the rear and he was blown away by that one 😃
Stumbled over this vid. Been a 999 Bip owner since 2007. Purchased my bike new and she has covered 21,000 miles since then. I like to keep my bike as the designer Pierre Terblanche would have it. However I'am running a full Termigioni 57mm exhaust system with Ducati performance filters and ECU to match set up by my local Ducati dealer (Cornerspeed), Nitron rear shock and rebuilt forks. I have ridden quite a few other sports bikes, many more powerful and packed with technology, but none have made me feel like the 999 does. The handling, outstanding throttle response and general visceral feel of the bike are absolutely 'on message' as far as I'am concerned. And although today she is the garage 'Queen' in her early years she was used properly and I have to say 100% reliable. Which is why I still own it after 17 years!😁
Sounds awesome! I hope I'll keep mine for at least as long. I have been thinking about a Termignoni system, but at least sound-wise I'm surprisingly happy the way it is. Not saying I won't do it anyway 😁
Congratulations on your 999, keep growing the collection, love the video and keep them coming. In terms of modifications I would keep the bike standard and just enjoy the road and track. During the summer I had my 996 SPS on the track and all I can say wow what an awesome bike. I know you consider your 916SP as a China vase, but enjoying to its full potential is so rewarding.
I myself bought a 999R from the MY 2004, so the first generation of the R. This still has the narrower fairing with the 4 air intakes but already the black SBK swingarm and also the standard fairing made of carbon, even the seat is made of this material. In addition, various covers and also the exhaust fairing made of the same material. I was skeptical when the 999 came out - but the R proved to me that the new design can also look very good. The material combination of the R in combination with the special frame and engine is something that you have to look for a long time today. The rideability is excellent and even after 20 years, the bike looks as if it had sprung from today's times. The 999 is one of the most underrated motorcycles of the last two decades. The styling is well done throughout, she is a face in the crowd of motorcycles that are almost the same. It's a great bike.
Love your videos! I also have a 916 (1995) and a 999s (2007) as part of my collection. Looking forward to your next bike, but take your time to fully enjoy the 999 first. I prefer the more 'analoge' superbikes as long as they are Italian. Follow your heart to build your ultimate personal collection, then it will always be an reflection of who you are.
Thank you and I completely agree! I have the feeling the next one will be something analogue, too 😉 I'm waiting for the backwards trend when manufacturers begin to put less tech into bikes and cars again because it just got out of hand.
I loved my 999, but I did eventually sell it and buy a 1098s, which again is a beautiful bike. If you’re thinking of modifying your 999, I’d highly recommend the Termi exhaust, the sound is incredible. 🤟😎
@@alij100100 I love the Termis on my 916, I guess you really can't go wrong with them. I wonder why Ducati switched to Akrapovic later for their performance exhausts.
Good question, as we know Ducati eventually switched from Termi’s to Akro’s on their racing bikes, so I’m guessing there possibly a better system, a lot of people recommend the Akro above the Termi’s, but for me watching past WSBK and BSBK races it’s the Termi’s that are part of Ducati. After selling the 1098s I bought a Panigale 1298s fitted with the Akro exhaust, sounded good but not as good as my previous Ducatis fitted with Termi’s. 🤟😎

Nice video sir. I too have a 999 which I bought new in 2006 - knowing the replacement model was on its way. I have the Biposto version and I love it. I still have my ST2 as well as getting a Diavel in 2010 when it was a brand new model. I think you're right about enjoying the now rather than thinking too much ahead. Who knows, maybe we'll see e-fuels? I note the 888, let's see 😉 I thought about superbikes being uncomfortable and all, but I just couldn't resist...
Wow so amazing! As a lifelong Ducati enthousiast I am seriously considering this as my first bike purchase. How does it ride on semi long trips? Lets say 2 hours?
The 999 is easier to ride over longer distances than its predecessors, but it's still a superbike. If you're not somewhat trained, 2 hour trips might get a bit tough because the body position will put weight on your shoulders, arms and wrists. The core muscles and legs will also get a workout, and don't forget your neck depending on your size and windshield. The bike's only made to protect you from wind properly when you're more or less flat on the tank. If you're doing more than 100km/h consistently, your head will get a lot of wind.
Donnie, congratulations for getting another suberb bike! I confess this is actually on my bucket list as well...so enjoy and share some on board video...they say its handling is unmatched...what do you think?
Thank you! I'll definitely record onboard footage. I can say that it is a lot easier to ride than the 916 series. Especially direction changes are faster and don't need as much input. The difference is enormous 👍
I have to say, I actually dig the way the 999 looks. It is also a supremely more practical bike than the 916 variants. I just bought a Super Sport 950 for that same reason. It is simply a better bike for the road. I hope these 999 bikes end up being the most collectible as a complete irony.
@@chrisvantassel8867 Sounds awesome! 4k miles should be quite rare... I guess you'll need to find out if it's ready to ride or has been standing around for 10+ years and needs every second moving part fixed.
I don't know alot about Ducatis. I bought a totally original 999 in Black with 11600 km. I must confess I haven't ridden it much, maybe once or twice a year, it now has just over 12000km now.
Carry on your collection. Don't even think about things going electric because that has nothing to do with you or any of us collecting and indeed riding classic bikes. Apart from the fact the the ev agenda won't and can't possibly work so no need to even mention that at all. Back in 2003 I owned a 916 and almost part exchanged it for a new 999 but was so disappointed in how quite it was unless I paid an extra £1000 for termi exhausts so decided to keep my 916. I've had a 748 and now have a 99, 996 with only 5k on the clock. Plus my Panigale V4 my third panigale. I don't even give the ev bullshit any head space. Nowadays the 999 looks awesome. It has character.
Just read your comment after the once by Steve Allan. I guess that means the previous did something to the exhaust, after all, because this one does not seem quiet at all 😁 How is the V4 compare the 916 and 999? The latest Ducati I've ridden was the 899.
I would, only make changes that were entirely reversible and that offered sound functional improvements. In other words take only as far as is reasonable from the point of the platform’s design potential. I wouldn’t hack it. I would also be compelled to track the bike. Cheers!
The 999 has a bad reputation styling wise, but over the last few years come into its own. They were always very affordable but have started to appreciate in price. Handeling is meant to be great. So all in all a great buy and one I would love to have as well. I’d get a Termignoni myself for sure (let her breathe and get the true Ducati soundtrack)but the laws are strict in places and tracks. 888 and or 1098 are a great choices after this one!
1st, it's a beautiful motorcycle. 2nd, it's 'old' enough to be collectible. I think a SuperSport style bike or a Monster would be a nice addition to balance out the forward thinking of Ducati. The 'modern' SS formula: grab a Monster add a Panigale style wrapper & finally: handlebar, footpegs 'n seat - for all day comfort. The 2017 - '23 SS only need cruise control to make it Monster 'daily driveable' & it becomes a veritable Swiss Army knife, or Leatherman tool. Wanna cruise the Western mountains from Canada to Mexico or attempt a track day or grab milk @ the Piggly-Wiggly- it's all good! Monster sez Ducati better than any other motorcycle on the planet. Everyone is unique, yet every model screams Ducati from its absurdedly oversized gas tank to the unique sound of the Desmo engine/exhaust. Any (all) Ducati collections require at least one Monster, if only to show Ducati's visionary insight. You asked, right?
That's a good point. Only superbikes would mean 3x the same 😉 It was just funny to sell the Scrambler just to get back to another superbike. Maybe it's in my DNA 😄
I would be happy to have one in the house to look at but they rattle like a dustbin full of sockets. Sounds worse with a cheap microphone and a phone speaker.
If you close the clutch, you'll hear much less of that rattle. Or you could feel better by reminding yourself MotoGP and WSBK also use open clutches :D
It used to be a fugliest bike. Now newer bikes come with tiny headlights don't make the 999 so fugly anymore. But the rear is still ugly like cockroach.
You bought the wrong one thats the 2003 999 base with the interior cast grey swing arm and camshafts from a 998. The one to have was the 749R or the 2006 999S or 2006 999R
I know the R and S versions are better (as usual). I didn't want to buy any R version because I don't want to treat it like a Chinese vase. I actually also like the grey details much better visually. I don't get the appeal of black wheels with black tyres and a red frame with red fairings. I might have taken an S, but this one was just too good to turn down in terms of condition and price 😉
I think you should sell the 999 and buy a 1098s. It is the true successor to be 916 series. Barely more expensive to buy and easier to live with than the 999.Also, in my opinion, better looking than the 916. The 916/999 make all the right noises, but are not actually that fast, whereas the 1098 makes the same noise but pulls like a train. Having ridden all three I can say that the 916 makes you feel like a connisuer, but that's no consolation when you get dusted by a family sallon. You crack the throttle, it makes all boom and bark, but doesn't actually accelerate all that fast. The 999 is a lttle faster, but lacks the kudos of the 916. Although an interesting machine, you won't fall in love with it, and will sell it in a year or two. Riding the 1098 makes you feel like a rockstar. You can ride next to any other motorcycle in existence and not feel overshadowed. It has much more road presence than both the 916 and 999, and unlike the 916 which looks good only in side profile, and the 999 which looks good from no angle, the 1098 is truly a timeless beauty, with no weak angle. Add to this an engine which feels monstrous on the road, and brakes to match, the only area the 916 is superior is in nostalgia. But for the 1098 that will come. The 1098 is in that place where it's not new, yet not considered a classic. I believe it's reputation and appreciation will only increase with time, so now is a perfect time to buy.
Weeeell. People might disagree with some of that 😁 I really like the 1098, so it's a big option - for reasons of performance, looks and sound as you say. But to me the looks of the 916 are eternal, especially the front. It may be slower than a 1098 but pushing a 916 SPS takes all your attention or it will bite you. I don't need to be faster than everybody else. I also really like the 999's looks because it's unique. But the 1098 is awesome, for sure, so I'll make a mark for that one 👍

I completely agree on the practicality, I'm actually working on a video adressing this and a few other great benefits of the 999 👍
@@DonnieDesmo I have the option to buy a very clean 999 with 4k miles on it....I may do it!
@@chrisvantassel8867 Sounds awesome! 4k miles should be quite rare... I guess you'll need to find out if it's ready to ride or has been standing around for 10+ years and needs every second moving part fixed.
You need a Desmocedici RR in your garage if you want to call yourself a Ducati Collector IMHO.
Interesting idea! I think I prefer the superbikes, though. The Desmosedici RR has never really met my taste. But who knows... 😉
I don't know alot about Ducatis. I bought a totally original 999 in Black with 11600 km. I must confess I haven't ridden it much, maybe once or twice a year, it now has just over 12000km now.
Why don't you ride it more?
@DonnieDesmo my back is out I now ride a super scooter "just"
@user-qs1gr9nz7n Ah, sorry to hear that. Well, at least you have something pretty to look at. Living room material, if you know what I mean ;)
@DonnieDesmo thanks I'm actually thinking of selling it. I'm 61 now
@user-qs1gr9nz7n Ok, that's understandable. Good luck finding the right buyer!
beautiful bike, but, good luck on keeping it out of the workshop.
Actually, I immediately had the front brake changed because of brake judder 😁 Otherwise, the bike seems fine though.
Cheers!
That makes a lot of sense. I actually took the bike to the track in France, I'll probably mention that in my next 999 video 👍
Ducasti!!! 🤗😎
Gorgeous, man. Pls, leave the beauty as it is and get as many bikes as your heart may wish and your wallet afford. Greetings from fighting Ukraine!
I think this is excellent advice 😃 Greetings back!
Agree completely! They're still surprisingly affordable for what they offer. Almost unreasonably so, I'd say.
The 999 is my favorite Ducati ever. Something sounds off with that engine though when you started it. It doesn’t sound healthy.
It should be fine, had it checked at my Ducati dealership. What do you mean exactly?
@@DonnieDesmo I could be wrong but it sounds like excessive valve lash. Or loose chain.
@@GarrettAnderson-d8d Thanks for the hint!
swap out the older cast swing arm and replace it with the box swing arm from the later 999 models.
Interesting idea! What's the benefit?
I want to (Seymour) like little shop of horror......😂

How can anyone wear them shorts or are they cut down trousers 😂😂😂😂😂
Hey, those are shorts and I wear them with pride 😁
Nerd
It used to be a fugliest bike. Now newer bikes come with tiny headlights don't make the 999 so fugly anymore. But the rear is still ugly like cockroach.
I actually really like the rear. That massive exhaust with such a beautifully designed cover. It's a matter of taste, I guess 😄
@@DonnieDesmo my racebike is an R and I dont pamper it at all. I also dont ride it on the streets
@@USAracingWell, to each their own, I guess. I'd never take my 916 SPS to the track.
@@DonnieDesmo you only live once then you're gone not coming back.
@@USAracingThat's true.
@@DonnieDesmo Hmmmm.....which Ducati superbike shall I buy...? Ha ha, what a wonderful dilemma. There is no loser, only degrees of brilliance. Thanks Donnie, and all the best.
