Price doesn't always equal quality. I'm super obsessed with my clothes and yet. I have machine-washed HM polo shirts, they haven't moved and cost 12 euros each. On the other hand I have an RL that I paid 100 euros in store, I washed it once at 30 degrees, it shrunk by 5 cm and is therefore a little tight. There is the image of the brand that we pay for above all and all the marketing that is around.
I buy RL t-shirts, sweaters, polos and shorts. One of the best quality clothing I have worn in my life. We don't have that many high quality brands in online stores here in Sweden. Mostly I get RL, Gant, L&S, Lacoste, Fred Perry. I've tried Tiger of Sweden, Armani & many other brands that don't meet the quality of RL.
@@Black-Circle I find the polo and shorts from them very nice and high quality. I own a few gant and a few RL shorts and even chinos. The both feel very similar, although RL is a tad bit smoother and more comfortable.
O - pre IPO brands Polo, RL For me iconic things are 1 - polos 2 - fabric shirts, specifically with oxford fabrik 3 - knitwear New brands and types of clothing are standard corporate descisions to get more money, they lack history or sole behind it - Just put your logo on whatever and sell it at 4 times the price.
Love this format. With all its sub-brands, RL lends itself well to this style review. Other similar broad brands like Armani, Brooks Brothers, and Zegna would be great as well.
Their Oxfords are the besttttt, have never bought another button up and have 5 different styles/colours that I rotate through for work. They've got the slim cut down to perfection.
In Marvin Traub's auto-bio, I think I remember him recounting the episode when he was originally going to carry RL ties, but wanted the Bloomingdale's label added. Ralph passed, came back a year later, and got his own shop. The power of patience + the occasional NO. Your mentions are, as always, spot on. I so agee. I have a lot of Ralph, always reliable and stylish. The (rare) Polo silk cable-knit sweaters are a personal fav. Thanks for another great vid.
Ralph Lauren is one of my favorite brands as a 14 year old kid. You're right it has been so much different than before, it's more commercially focused than before. However it still offers great quality . I am a very brand concious person but you let me realized it's cons , I mean....you're right big logos are unpleasant to see thanks for the tips , especially the ones that I should only buy from Ralph Lauren . Great review! Thanks. - Brenzo Venida
Great work! You can't often find someone with your level of expertise give such an in-depth look at famous brands, this goes very well along with your "Is it worth it?" series.
This all depends. Many of their brands span different quality tier levels, and it takes a trained eye to spot good value (great quality for the price). The polo brand for instance makes cheap apparel that they sell at retailers such as Ross, Marshalls, Outlets, etc. and some of which are giving you what you pay for. However, if you take the time to find the right product on sale (like you said), it's most certainly worth it. I absolutely love the Pima Soft Touch Polos and I wear them all the time. Many of my Purple Label pieces, like you mentioned, I've bought marked down via outlets, with outlet coupons stacked on top, and credit card cashback saving. Getting an ultra soft and warm '$1,000' cashmere sweater for $149 is a great capsule piece for the wardrobe. I have a handful of purple items i've added this way, and I'm in love with the quality of the product, material, and I really enjoy clothing that is ultra comfortable and built to last. That being said, i've had the same opportunity to buy linen purple label pants at similar extreme discounts and I didn't, because I still didn't think it was worth the price if I wasn't in love with them. Same applies with Polo sneakers vs Purple Label. No way to justify a ton of money more for marginally better product that won't last much longer.
I paused this video and Googled ‘Ralph Lauren Purple Label’. I clicked a link to Mr. Porter and viewed a few of their offerings. One item that caught my eye was a cable-knit cashmere jumper in navy. It is priced at £975. I then look at the Johnstons of Elgin website, finding the exact same cable-knit style, in 4 ply, for £325. Nobody is telling me that the quality of the cashmere or the craftsmanship of the Johnstons of Elgin jumper is any less than the jumper from Ralph Lauren. If anything, it would be superior. Yet it is three times the price. Just think, you could buy three exquisite knitwear pieces for the same money that you would pay for one item from Ralph Lauren ‘Purple Label’.
True, but as he says throughout the video, it's almost never worth paying full price for Ralph Lauren. The quality is still there so if you can find their shoes at a discount then it might be worth it
I own a pair of tan fullgrain leather Polo Ralph Lauren single monk strap shoes with a Blake stitched leather sole with hidden channel stitching... they’re really nice... I prefer quality over a “brand” (For Example, I love Allen Edmonds shoes even though the general public usually has no idea who they are) but one thing I DO enjoy when I wear them is the recognizable “POLO” logo on the arch of the sole, and in gold inlay on the heel of the insole. There is a bit of a feel of prestige wearing them. People know Polo.

You are a dying breed and we need to support you and people like you who know mens fashion a do whatever possible to keep men informed. Kind of reminds me of old barber shops which are disappearing and are replaced by hair salons OR very expensive barber shops in some fashion malls.
Ralph Lauren is my go to company when it comes to outerwear, they always have the styles I want and I know the quality it there, some of my RL pieces include, Toggle Duffle Coat, Black Barracuda Leather Jacket, Wax Moto Jacket.
I can’t believe you didn’t mention the polo dad hat. It’s probably low key one of their most essential items. Also the Harrington jacket, 90s or earlier American made cotton, is wonderful.
As an employee at Ralph Lauren, a lot of the stuff you said not to buy is our best selling stuff. The American flag merch, bear stuff, and t-shirts fly off the shelves. But those vintage colors often go to final markdown before they leave the store. Regardless, this video gave me some good ideas on what to buy with my discount!
I kind of understand your point about dress shirts. But what about casual shirts? I recently discovered them and their slim fit Oxford shirts fit me perfectly and I love the designs and quality they have (such as the one in rose/pink or blue/white checkered). I got so many compliments on them and I think even though they're casual shirts, they're way more striking and elegant than most men's dress shirts. I think they have some beautiful designs and colors that you don't find anywhere else.
LO LIFE! Tastes differ but those Bear pieces are iconic, especially all the "obnoxious" polo items like Snow Beach or Stadium 1992, I love em to death. I get that you're more of a classy type dudes, and thats cool, do your thing fam, dope review! 2 L's UP!!!

That suit looks amazing on you Raphael! I recently bought a Black Watch OCBD from RL. Thankfully the embroidered Pony was blue and blended completely with the Black Watch pattern. RL has some incredible items (if you know what to look for) and I'm glad to hear you give the company it's due. Would love to see this type of video turned into series. Thank you!
I agree I recently order two polo brand polo shirts in the same size and they fit differently one was 2 inches larger in the chest and 1.5 inches larger in the arms can't believe they would have inconsistent sizing at that price range will not be buying any polo shirt from them in the future.
Great video as always. I like the fact that you also talk about the brands history in the beginning. You should do a brand review on Tommy Hilfiger, my favorite brand next to Ralph Lauren. Also, do you know the german brand Olymp? If so, what do you think about them?
I've probably got close to 400 articles of Ralph Lauren in my closet. Suits, sports coats, vests, ties, belts, suspenders, slacks, casual pants,Jean's, button down shirts, pull over v neck shirts, tshirts, sweatshirts, track suits, sneakers, dress shoes, casual shoes, along with undergarments, tie pins, sunglasses, regulat glasses frames, socks, hats. My absolute favorite mens wear brand. Actually have some items for over 20 years and they still look and feel close to brand new.
I can attest to the quality of both Ralph Lauren crystalware and oilcloth fabric items. I have had great experiences with their overwear on the whole; be it hoodies, sweaters, raincoats etc. The Polo fragrance lineup is varied in style and uses quality ingredients as they do not smell cheap and the scents are (mostly) long-lasting. Overall, I do think RL has maintained a customer-first quality approach to their items. I have been a customer of theirs since the 80s for reference.
Greetings from Lüneburg. I got a real bargain with Ralph Lauren. On an auction platform I got an older model, 100% Cashmere, in a dark grey. After a visit to my tailor, the suit fits me perfectly, feels incredibly good and is one of my absolute favourites. Tomorrow we are at the Army Ball in Berlin, I will wear this suit, my girlfriend a festive long dress in champagne by Ralph Lauren (half price) and we could hardly be happier. I'm just a little sad about that I cannot wear my favourite socks from Burlington (Model BeProud), but maybe that socks would be a bit out of place at this event.
Wow brands , personally I do love Ralph Lauren for my casual wear it dits well and the quality is there for the price. For any than other than casual I tend to stay away from them( purple label is an exception)
I still have 2 pairs of Polo penny loafers I bought at Marshall Fields in 1990. I've kept them in immaculate condition and still wear them. one brown and one black. They are heirlooms!
Thanks again, Raphael, for an excellent overview of this iconic brand. One item you don't mention that I think Ralph Lauren does really well is the rugby shirt. Back in the 80s, my favorite brand for these was Gant, but these days RL meets and exceeds Gant's quality and at a lower price point. Great for spring/fall weather and usually of a heavy cotton twill, rugby shirts are an item not often mentioned here at GG.
@@pascalecnto68 it depends on d individual style and wat he looks great in and confidence , wat looks good on you may not look good on me dats wats it's about in fashion so u hav a great point🖒
Have been a fan since the 80's. Wilkes Bashford in San Francisco is where I first purchased his brand. I kept a couple of Polo suits I bought in the 90's. One is a blue and the other tan. Both wool gabardine. Also. have a 90's Polo wool double breasted sport coat in blue with gold colored buttons. On occasion I still wear it with Polo gray slacks, white shirt and blue/yellow rep tie. Simply timeless.
I like how he pointed out obnoxious logos. A lot of people today really are brand whores. For them clothing is not about wearing what you like or what makes you feel good, it's about showing how much money you have and how much you can spend.
I fully agree with your assessment, however, it's their fragrances that absolutely can move a room. I'm an older man, and it's always a kick to have a woman smell that Polo Green or Blue-- the younger women just love it, and the older women just know and also love it. 🙂
Hi, Im doing a project on RL. What target consumer would you say the Ralph Lauren collection is catered towards? What stores display this brand in the UK? What are their weaknesses, strengths, opportunities and threats? In short.
Thank you Sven Raphael; this was an outstanding review and very interesting to watch. I agree totally with your analysis on what to buy and what to skip including the logo stuff. I am of the age to remember when Ralph Lauren, now age 77 started and like yourself appreciate many the many fine products they have brought to us. You have a great channel and I look forward to more videos.
Ross Dress for Less has awesome Ralph Lauren deals. I scored a yellow cashmere Polo sweater, A couple of silk garments, gorgeous silk dress worth $900 ( I got it for 60). Linen button downs, Cable knit sweaters, cotton skirts, and classic chinos. His clothing fits me like a glove. I am love with most Ralph Lauren designs as a NY girl he will always have a special place in my heart.
I randomly came across this video and so your YT channel. I really appreciate how you express your opinion peacefully and honestly,...plus I agree with what you said. You have one more subscriber!
I’m a fan of their polo shirts both mesh and regular cotton when I want a plain coloured item. Their classic cut fits my body perfectly. Their standard sized polo man doesn’t bother me in terms of branding but I do agree some of those oversized branding can be obnoxious. In terms of quality they seem to not shrink, develop holes or fall apart like other similar priced items.
Hi! great videos as always, would you recommend a Polo RL knit jacket which is 40% cotton 60% Polyester in the shell ? not full price but still, I'm not sure if the material is right !?
I believe that for causal clothing, the big logos aren’t bad at all. They are iconic to the Ralph Lauren brand, and there’s nothing wrong with wearing it. Some clothing can be a little too obnoxious, but it’s not bad for casual wear at all.
Ralph Lauren/Polo was my entree to the sartorial world when I was in my 20's. These days, with a slightly better salary, I opt for heritage brands. Suits by Huntsman, shoes by Cleverley, dress shirts by Ascot Chang, swim trunks by Birdwell Britches, jeans by The Flat Head, tees by Merz Schwannen, socks by Gammarelli, gloves by Merola, ties by Drake's, pocket squares by Simonnot Goddard. The price points are on par with RL but the quality and craftsmanship is WAY better.
Great video! I agree with 95% I’m able to find “some” dress shirts that Regent Slim fit what fits me perfectly, although finding one without the polo emblem and priced fairly is difficult
My father and I are humongous fans of Ralph Lauren, he has been a longtime fan, nearly everything in his house is Ralph Lauren Later on I was clothed in Ralph Lauren from a young age, and grew up with and enjoyed it fully

@@Black-Circle I find the polo and shorts from them very nice and high quality. I own a few gant and a few RL shorts and even chinos. The both feel very similar, although RL is a tad bit smoother and more comfortable.
O - pre IPO brands Polo, RL
For me iconic things are
1 - polos
2 - fabric shirts, specifically with oxford fabrik
3 - knitwear
New brands and types of clothing are standard corporate descisions to get more money, they lack history or sole behind it - Just put your logo on whatever and sell it at 4 times the price.
Yassss
They’re nicely styled, but in my opinion, the quality isn’t what it used to be…See my remarks above…
Thanks for another great vid.
but the polo bear is a hip hop ICON!! come on, you have to be carefree and comfortable sometimes :((
Lo-lifes come thru!
I feel personally attacked by this video.
I love polo bear for casual wear.
Remember he old head he doesn’t understand our dressing codes
stan loona!!! I’m not carefree or comfortable enough to pay $2000 for that silly bear watch.

The polo shirts and t shirts are top sellers, it is what excelled the brand.
The big ponys shirt are iconic everybody loves them
I paused this video and Googled ‘Ralph Lauren Purple Label’.
Disagree on the shoes. As they outsource production to quality shoe makers, I'd much rather buy from them directly without the RL brand markup.
Well, RL products are sometimes heavily discounted so you can get them for a lower price than from the manufacturer
@@CobblerBob well said Ralph Lauren looks great on me tees, polo buttons ups, shirts,d fabric is great qualitydifferent sizing especially d custom and slimfit I hav polos as way back as 10 years and they still look new I also hav 2 ankle height boots wit d strap coming across and buckling ah vintage brown as I call it and a black hav DEM more than 5 years now! I wear Boys Ralph Lauren XL 18-20, amazing quality and it fits me better then Mens small.
Great video. Perhaps Hugo Boss could be the next brand to do?
Do not buy their SS uniform. Totally out of fashion.

Lmao in the outlet I work at, there is two bald men that look like hit man that work at Hugo Boss. Ones smaller and more slender and the other is taller and beefier.
I like Hugo Boss shirts. Very comfortable.
Jean Raspail Hugo Boss is better than every french or italian clothesmarks
I buy mostly Polo, but I still mostly agree with your assessment. I buy Polo shirts, but it's mostly vintage stuff, which requires patience to wait for the right item at the right price piece by piece.
The Rugby Ralph Lauren sub brand had some nice pieces
Please do SUITSUPPLY review/guide. I own 2 suitsupply items, i like their modern slim fit and bold classic reinovation, but i still feel they are overpriced.
An Sung overpriced? Their suits are among the best price to quality you will find!

Personally I only buy RL when its -70%, the quality of their main line products isnt worth more than that.
Tom Wessel even then it is over priced rubbish
You can get RL at -70% ? How ?
It’s worth full price in my opinion
@@Andy-ew1wh buy now.
I don't know where your store is if there is one except online. I would definitely like to take you for a cup of coffee etc when I am in the US.
Also the Harrington jacket, 90s or earlier American made cotton, is wonderful.
...I love the button up shirts! Fit me great. Get them at the outlet, and with the added 40% off, I pick them up for$35-45. Nice.
Finally a person with Style Morales 😅😅 you speak to us like we are old friends...with an honest educated opinion. Thanks😊
What’s your discount? 40% off ?
@@littlebill3419 50% online and full line, 40% off markdown and 60% off wardrobe (stuff we can wear to work)
Aaron Schwartz nice !
yeah maybe most of the people choose this stuff but most peope are also not stylish

Can you maybe do Tommy Hilfiger? love the reviews.
Love Hilfiger
Ew
Love Tommy Hilfiger, have almost 1000€ worth of their clothing and I'm only 16
No Hilfiger here...lol
My go to brand for t-shirts lol
Love the button ups with Levi and cowboy boots....
LO LIFE!
Tastes differ but those Bear pieces are iconic, especially all the "obnoxious" polo items like Snow Beach or Stadium 1992, I love em to death. I get that you're more of a classy type dudes, and thats cool, do your thing fam, dope review!
2 L's UP!!!
The bear logo especially has a history this dude should know about when talking about Ralph Lauren
@@rikkidgermano9640 it can have as much history as possible doesnt make you a stylish gentleman wearing a sweater with a gigantic bear on it. cool for kids tho
Once you own a jacket and/or coat from Purple Label, you never want to touch their Polo line again. Amazing materials, great fit and a classic look which earns you lots of compliments.
Same here. Closer to 500. SALUTE!
Just wanted to clarify. The Ralph Lauren line Double RL is primarily a Western Line, which is quite obvious.
Nope!!!!! you're wrong ; Polo Bear is a bigggggg Clasic!!!!! 😁✌
I found a beige overcoat with tartan plaid on the inside for around $300 at the polo store in Tampa Fl . What a steal
Ralph Lauren..my favorite brand.
Me too
Team Polo by Ralph Lauren
Avoid their shirts, I fully agree!
I recommend to scrutinize Morris and Oscar Jacobson from Sweden.
their whitmans are fantastic, wide pleated trousers. really flattering.
Loved the video but honestly, I love the loud polo pieces. If it’s the main focal point of the fit, it can look great.
Ralph Lauren Polo shirts are definitely the most iconic and popular items.
Not for everyone though. I absolutely hate the conformist, preppy, boring image the polos give off.
@@pascalecnto68 it depends on d individual style and wat he looks great in and confidence , wat looks good on you may not look good on me dats wats it's about in fashion so u hav a great point🖒
Love RLPL Gregory coruduroys. They are light but warm, comfortable, durable, almost velvety without being dandy.
Famous comic artist Chris-chan is one of the most well known Ralph Lauren wearers.
You said you don’t like Ralph Lauren polos, how do you feel about Trigema polos?
Dear Sven,
Could you please do a brand review for Brooks Brothers
Have been a fan since the 80's. Wilkes Bashford in San Francisco is where I first purchased his brand. I kept a couple of Polo suits I bought in the 90's. One is a blue and the other tan. Both wool gabardine. Also. have a 90's Polo wool double breasted sport coat in blue with gold colored buttons. On occasion I still wear it with Polo gray slacks, white shirt and blue/yellow rep tie. Simply timeless.
I am very big fan of the
Gentleman's Gazette, I watch every single video which comes out.
I like how he pointed out obnoxious logos. A lot of people today really are brand whores. For them clothing is not about wearing what you like or what makes you feel good, it's about showing how much money you have and how much you can spend.
молодец
Thank you! much appreciated
I completely agree, most people today don't care about true elegance and art.
I fully agree with your assessment, however, it's their fragrances that absolutely can move a room. I'm an older man, and it's always a kick to have a woman smell that Polo Green or Blue-- the younger women just love it, and the older women just know and also love it. 🙂
I purchased a Polo Ralph Lauren sports jacket in impeccable condition at the thrift store for $2😊
Seems to be very original them
Did you Legit check it
Hi, Im doing a project on RL. What target consumer would you say the Ralph Lauren collection is catered towards? What stores display this brand in the UK? What are their weaknesses, strengths, opportunities and threats? In short.
I dont own too much RL...mostly wear Calvin Klein but this is a great guide
Ralph Lauren cardigans are the best! I own a few cashmere ones and they look and feel great!
I only wear polo Shirts, caps and socks from Ralph Lauren.
187erz lx sometimes I wear you, but that’s a story for another day.
I can’t find that green cricket Ralph Lauren sweater anywhere! Is it discontinued?
Saw this video, instant sub. Just a very clear explanation of all aspects of this brand. Keep up the good work.
And I also like your vintage/ second hand recommendations, not everyone has 3000 to spare on a suit ;-)
I trust the Ralph Lauren brand as all purpose no matter the occasion
You can find Ralph Lauren dress shirts, sweaters, and dress pants on Poshmark for under $15 not wrinkled or ripped on seams.
WOW avoid the accessories? I love the messenger bag for my laptop, the shaking kit bag and the duffle bags!!! This was very informational.
I remember seeing a photo of Bruce Willis with a polo bear sweater and nonstop laughing because everytime I see Die Hard I think of the polo bear. 😂
I love my RRL Selvedge Denim!!
I believe that for causal clothing, the big logos aren’t bad at all. They are iconic to the Ralph Lauren brand, and there’s nothing wrong with wearing it. Some clothing can be a little too obnoxious, but it’s not bad for casual wear at all.
You should’ve talked more about their fragrances as well
Ralph Lauren/Polo was my entree to the sartorial world when I was in my 20's. The price points are on par with RL but the quality and craftsmanship is WAY better.
do u share it with your boyfriend?
Great video! I agree with 95% I’m able to find “some” dress shirts that Regent Slim fit what fits me perfectly, although finding one without the polo emblem and priced fairly is difficult
My father and I are humongous fans of Ralph Lauren, he has been a longtime fan, nearly everything in his house is Ralph Lauren
Later on I was clothed in Ralph Lauren from a young age, and grew up with and enjoyed it fully
You make great videos. I love your “is ir worth it?” Series and this looks really promising. Keep doing the superb job
Great format. With the prevalence of outlet stores carrying lower quality lines made specifically for them, videos like this help to wade through all the different micro-brands beneath the umbrella of the major name.
The Polo Golf collection is the best thing ever
One of my favorite pair of shoes are a pair of Polo wingtip casuals that are light beige suede and a blue jean like material. Very cool looking.
