As an FYI Ralph Lauren does offer purple label bespoke suiting. It’s not widely advertised, and typically starts around 8-10k per suit it is a true bespoke experience with an in house tailor. The process for your initial suit is around 12 weeks. They keep your measurements on file which makes subsequent suits with a 6-8 week turn around time.

It wasn't purple label, but I finally started building my own classic style wardrobe, and browsing jackets at my local Goodwill, I found a very nice vintage trench coat from Ralph Lauren, absolutely no damage, and fits like a glove! Always wanted a coat like this, and I was absolutely ecstatic! I knew it was of good quality, thanks to the Gentleman's Gazette, but I didn't realize that it was originally a $600 coat!...I spent $8. Definitely my best find thus far.
Thank you as always to you guys for providing all of the information I could ever need to start dressing like a gentleman! I've been a viewer for about 3 years, but i've just begun, and my journey is certainly off to a good start.

Nice, man! Thrift stores are the way to go for suits and other nice clothes like that since they're so much more affordable than what you pay for nowadays and they're often of much better quality so long as you know what you're looking at with materials and all.
I recently got a charcoal suit from Goodwill as well as an off white blazer, and a bunch of other stuff too.

In DC, many wealthy people who work in government will donate their old suits, gowns, and accessories to thrift stores, which makes a very nicely dressed 70s and 80s suited homeless population as compared to my hometown in Washington state where it is knits. As the majority wears, it becomes available.

In 2015, a random polo store in a NJ outlet was converted to a Ralph lauren clearance center for a few months and carried tons of RLPL at tremendous discounts. Suits were $150, sport jackets were $100, shirts were $25. It was amazing! I bought a ton and greatly regret not buying much more. Also because I sold most of it and didn’t appreciate how rare of opportunity this was. In particular, really regret not getting tan linen sport jacket that would be amazing every summer.

Polos from purple label are well worth double the polo price. They dont lose color ever after washing like the polo ones and they stay soft after every wash. They are also lighter and dont shrink.

I used to live in an effluent area where the local Goodwill stores carried a wide range of high-end brands. Certainly, finding a suit, shirt, or tie with the purple label made it without exception into the shopping buggy. As a result, I have four two-piece suits, several shirts and many ties with the unmistakable shiny purple label I would otherwise not be able to afford. Knowing your brands in situations like this allow for a very nice collection of first quality clothing items made for any event you may need to dress for. Some of the shirts are too small but make for a great gift for that hard to buy for family member.

Nice video. I liked RLPL more when it was less Italian and more English. Also, I think you forgot to mention their fabulous corduroy pants - soft and velvety, and with a lovely patina after a few years of wear. I also politely disagree on the swimwear. Yes, it's not wise to buy a piece for $400, but at $120, which is very realistic, it's one of the nicest options on the market. Their Amalfi styles are fabulous and can be worn as shorts, with a polo. I can't even remember the number of compliments I got from random women (now, this is often a sure way of knowing you're doing classic style wrong, but in the swimsuit area I'll take it every day). So much so that I now get a bit surly when they don't keep coming.

I have to say, I disagree on the shoes. Modern-day, Italian-made Purple Label shoes are miraculous to behold. I already bought a new pair for Christmas, a pair of monk straps, and they are…gorgeous🤩 They are 100% made by hand (still bench made), even the varnish is applied with paint brushes and finished in the “Berluti” style. The leather is soft, the soles are comfy and even have arch support, and the outer sole is wood! They are exceptional and the only comparable shoes are, as he mentioned, Edward Greens or Berlutis or any other fully handmade shoe, but it really does stand right next to them!

For me the suits are totally inspired by French Noir, as epitomised by actors such as Alain Delon. They are much less structured than typical English suits, without going as far as the limpness of an Italian suit. I guess its all about the climate you're going to wear it in, as exampled by Ralph Lauren advertising.

Well my good man, if you are going to advise men on what to wear you should take a little peek in the mirror first.
Your tie is crooked and your jacket looks to be a size too small.

No doubt purple label is excellent quality and a good option if you are lazy and rich. I got a purple label flannel shirt for around 200 €, the original price being over 400 €. It's a great shirt, but no way it would be worth to pay the full price (unless you are, once again, lazy and rich). Only thing I wish they would lose are the tacky logos in some of their products if they want to have a believable old money vibe. I'm not old money, but I would believe that the people of that heritage wouldn't be publicly seen wearing flashy logos.

The 2 guys who present on this channel are the most awkward in their mannerisms and way of speech. So uncomfortable to listen to and watch.

Nothing from Ralph Lauren is worth the money. 1000 euros for a cardigan that’s made in China of a little bit of of wool, cotton and a lot of plastic, or 250 euros for a cardigan from William Lockie in 100% wool, made in Scotland? The choice is clear.
I’m not saying the quality is bad, but you can get better stuff for less money if you can live without the horse on the chest.

Would you consider the Purple Label line to be constructed in the same way as Ralph Lauren's lower-end collections? Or does Purple Label include examples of craftsmanship at a higher end?

@@gentlemansgazette Purple Label is absolutely of a higher standard. That doesn’t mean it could (and should) be priced way lower. 5000 dollars for an OTR suit is ridiculous when you can get, say, a Ring Jacket suit (which imo is of a higher quality than RLPL) for 1000-2000.

I think I'll stick with Hugo Boss, I prefer the consistency in the quality, plus I'm not sold on American high fashion!
