  • In this video I discuss 5 most common and costly mistakes that you can make when buying a salvage car, especially if you are a beginner.. Please make sure you watch it BEFORE buying your first rebuild project and save THOUSANDS!
A lot of people know that buying a salvage car with minor damage is one of the best ways to save thousands of dollars on your next car.. If you decide to buy your car from Copart or IAA salvage auctions you MUST know and avoid these 5 very common mistakes that might cost you a fortune! Unfortunately, Copart and IAA scams are very common..
The most expensive mistake you can make when buying a salvage car from Copart or Insurance Auto Auctions (IAA) is what I call a "dealer scam" - buying a car that was "doctored up" to look like it has minor damage but in reality is a money pit hiding A LOT of damage..
Also, don't forget about auction fees, always pay attention to the paperwork and never underestimate the costs of repairs!

    1. Never buy a dealer car 2. Pay attention to the Paperwork, make sure it can be registered. 3. Don't buy cars sight unseen. 4. Don't underestimate the cost of repairs 5. Don't go over budget or get in a bidding wars, other cars will become available. Thanks for your tips I am going to start rebuilding cars soon.

J Smith Depending on your state, some insurance companies refuse to insure salvage title vehicles. You could title wash the car if you knew someone in another state, however that’s a process.

yOJunnzhy I’m not a mechanic, but I do know a lot about fixing cars after years of doing this.. It all comes with experience. I would recommend to find a shop you can trust to do the work for you in the beginning.. And don’t get involved in big repair projects.. start with something simple. Good luck!

Remember to include tax, title, and registration fees. It can be another $200 to $300.
You should also include an estimate of the number of hours it takes to repair. You should pay yourself at least $20 an hour. This includes the time it takes to pick up the car and clean it up.

Thanks for the vid! I bought an LR3 with a cooked engine, nothing else wrong with it. Bought a used engine slipped it in and took it to the DMV in my state. I pointed out the export only on the title, I did not understand it at the time. They did a little research, made a couple calls and said that isn't a problem. Almost10 years later, its still going strong.

It's all gravy if one lives close to a lot to freely view them-shop around but the problem is for most of us this is not the case. I used to have a huge lot super close to me and it was ez mode then but co-part bought them out and then moved out of the area 😒🤣 It was fun while it lasted I guess because I'm unwilling to buy them sight unseen and not willing to travel many hours now just to check one out... let alone pay for shipping etc.

Andrei......this video is becoming aged, but the advice is still very good and timeless. The more I read reviews of people's experiences with Coparts/IAA or the brokers, the more weary I am of dealing with any of these people, even though there is a car I really want to buy as a project car. It is in another state. The info about inspectors is good.

VERY GOOD VIDEO!!! IT'S A SHAME THAT COPART ALLOWS THAT TO HAPPEN. COPART WAS A VERY GOOD AUCTION IN THE 80'S AND 90'S. JUST THE FEES THEY CHARGE SHOULD LET YOU KNOW THEY DON'T CARE IF YOU GET SCREWED. THEY DO VIRTUAL BIDDING AND NO MORE LIVE AUCTIONS. IT'S CHEAPER FOR THE AUCTION. LESS EMPLOYEES. BIG SCAM.

What he is saying is nothing but the truth. Stay away from auction cars. I bought a car that was advertised as "run and drive", "minor front end damage" for $7K after fees and shit. I got the car with all the airbags blown. lol, Front is severely damaged, they just fixed the front to cover the big accident the car had. They never mentioned anything about the airbags. After three months of trying to fix it and loosing more than $5k in renting a car to move around, I noticed the car is leaking oil and mechanic found out a big ass crack under the engine and needed to replace the engine with about $3k. lol Plus other problems I noticed, like the radio not working, the side power window not working, the shocks shaking and wheels off center. Man I could have bought a good fairly used car with all the money I wasted! I don't regret it. It is an unforgettable life lesson that I will never let any of my lineage make.
