Then it's just down to power/weight. Side note, that Ducati 959 (157-hp) is about 50-hp down compared to it's big brother the 1299 (205-hp) back in 2016. An R1S (164-hp) in 2016 would be stomped out. The 1299 would have also walked away from the R8 but Audi knew that so they used the lower horsepower model.
Actually I was just faster off the line. We should have shown the countdown - the Launch control systems take a split second longer to take off than the Torque Converter Auto held on the brakes. Honest.

A used S1 with some light tuning is a bit of a weapon. The engine is heavily underrated by Audi, either to prevent the model stepping on the higher S3 models or to leave room for an RS model that never emerged. The variant of the EA888 unit is in a very low power guise, but remains similar to the units used in the Golf R which are rated far higher at stock. So you can turn the wick up from 230bhp to 300bhp with very little difficulty and it's a pocket rocket since it only weighs a tad over 1300kg.
The A3 is not double the price of the A1 the price it's around £10,000 more I'm sure the options fitted were just aesthetic things like carbon fibre and did not benefit the speed
i dont think you can class a 4.0 Twin Turbo V8 with over 600bhp a 'daily driver'. Think more on the lines of a Ford Focus Estate 1.8 TDCi with 81bhp and a 0-60 of over 12 seconds

I expecially loved overtaking, the brutal force for just that quick manoeuvre always put a smile on my face but then 30k kms further, the issues started. The car spent about 2 months in and out of the dealership because they couldn't identify the issues. After having that resolved it drove for about 15k kms and annoying things started to happen, I went with it and unfortunately it became worse and worse. Sold the car and over it was. I miss the ability of plain hooliganism in my current car, which is by the way peanuts to maintain in comparison (xf 3.0d)and therefore was looking at a rs6 but was afraid of a repeat from the past. Although it was incredible fun, I'm not sure if the costs are worth it. You didn't put me off in any way, it's still itching. I'm going to do some research and take what you wrote as a baseline and then we'll see if I really want to go through with it. Thanks again very much!

The fact is a torque converter Auto gets off the line faster than a manual while cars with launch pause for a split second before launching when you release the brake. They give great 0-60mph times because figuring equipment only starts timing when the car starts to move. However, in a real life off the line race, they suffer slightly.

I have a RS7 and I have to agree that off the line it is absolutely batshit crazy fast. From a stoplight 0-speed limit it is just about untouchable, including the R8. The R8 catches up quickly but just looking at the torque numbers you can see why the R8 has to play catch up.

That RS6 just pulls from the start like a freight train. That transmission is just out of this world. What this really shows is that apart from the looks there really isn't a reason for the r8 over an RS6 because that race was as close as makes no difference and the rs6 is a whole lot more practical.

The RS6 and RS7 are almost the same in terms of power/speed and everything else. They share the same engine and although the RS7 has a better top speed, it wouldn't have made much difference over the quarter mile. RS7 is prettier, mind you…

That S1 is amazing for the price! And that engine is very easily tuned to 255-260hp, keeping its reliability. Pretty amazing.
There's also many tuners claiming 300/310hp with only software for it.

The R8 is faster. The rs6 jumped the gun (6:37), and the r8 driver didn’t get a perfect launch. If they swapped drivers or did it again the r8 would win. Rs6 is beastly in a straight line though.
lol the RS6 jumped by a absolute MILE. The S1 was next, The RS3 & R8 were the last to leave the line by quite a decent amount too.
+stinger15au we should have shown the countdown becuase the RS6 didn't jump. The fact is a torque converter Auto gets off the line faster than a manual while cars with launch pause for a split second before launching when you release the brake. They give great 0-60mph times because figuring equipment only starts timing when the car starts to move. However, in a real life off the line race, they suffer slightly.
carwow I guess we will have to agree to disagree, my real life experience says otherwise, zero delay at all with my LC (and its a audi S-stronic in a RS car as well). RS6 is still a beast though, no doubt about it, the perfect all around car. Still loved the vid :)
I have a RS7 and I have to agree that off the line it is absolutely batshit crazy fast. From a stoplight 0-speed limit it is just about untouchable, including the R8. The R8 catches up quickly but just looking at the torque numbers you can see why the R8 has to play catch up.
With my s5 with dsg, every time I launch there is indeed a small delay.

What this really shows is that apart from the looks there really isn't a reason for the r8 over an RS6 because that race was as close as makes no difference and the rs6 is a whole lot more practical.
