This was a great documentary. It really brings together a lot of lore and technical information. I especially enjoyed the Engines chapter. I do wish Star Wars made graphics available which showed detailed information about the ion engines. I understand the mains are located along the equatorial trench (maybe others), but I wish we could actually see them, especially while in operation.
Fantastic vid! An in-depth analysis of the weapon that could have enforced peace across the galaxy. But for a farm boy corrupted by a religious zealot.
Mutually Assured Destruction. When both sides know the Death Star’s gonna win. Few people know that Tarkin planned on doing a galaxy wide “alphabet” tour, starting with Alderaan and ending with Zeitooine. It was an educational initiative developed by the Teachers Unions for Galactic Geography and Grammar. And sponsored by the Disintegrative Mineral Extraction Department of the Imperial Mining Guild - “Atomizing Planets For Peace.”
Ooooooo, Krennic was SO mad that Tarkin took his pet project. Who did Tarkin think he was? After all, Krennic wore a cape. I love the shot at 15:05 of Krennic swooning over the majesty of converting Jedha to rubble. He’s so proud of his baby, I think he got the sniffles.
Thanks, I’ll need to look that book up. This video answered a LOT of questions I had about the DS, especially the chapter on its ion engines. I knew it was hyperspace capable (there are some great fanimations of an arrival), although I’m still unclear if or how ion engines are used in the extra dimension. However, this really helped clear up how it moves around at sublight speeds. Nice work, Nordy.
You were doing so well till the bit about them using external radiators to cool the liquid, the is no medium (like air) in between the radiator and space to transfer said heat, but then again neither would we have any sound in space so that kinda kills the tie-fighters fun ...hmmm on second thought.. just forget what i said, loved all the info in the video!
...and failure, not even 10 minutes in - turbo-lasers were too big for star-fighters, it's been stated in the movie itself not to mention multitude of other sources.
The Death Star while completely impractical was a marvel of engineering, I often wondered why they didn’t place a second power plant for the moon sized battle station or at the least placed more defensive and offensive weaponry Another curiosity was why Palpatine had a tower on top of the Death Star instead of a bridge built right above the laser weapon for a great view while providing better security for the Emperor of the Galaxy I appreciate your dedication and passion in going in depth over these complex and iconic designs and ships, could one of your next Videos be the Providence class and Providence class dreadnaught (Invincible/Admiral trenches flagship) or the Harrower class dreadnaught or star forge?
The Death Star really was an unstoppable juggernaut. If they’d put an actual military commander in charge instead of a glorified governor the Rebels wouldn’t have stood a chance.
Don't be too proud of this technological terror you've constructed. The ability to destroy a planet, or even a whole system, is insignificant next to the power of the Force.
So, no realism in regards to building one? For me, I’d rather build an artificial Dyson Sphere, a pseudo-Death Star because it wouldn’t have that planet destroying super laser. Its role & purpose is to ensure that earth survives when our sun goes supernova by simply moving away in that mobile space station, of sorts. The exterior would likely look extremely similar to the Death Star, as seen in _A New Hope_ , but the interior would look a lot like earth in almost every way possible & such…

I wish there were star trek videos done like this. This way of talking about the tech is great!
I remember reading the book "Death Star". It was a great read. Thanks for making this video!

Holy shit thïs is serious starwars love it ,wow

I see “Death Star” in the title. I click.

Well done 👏 star wars you tune always needs new chanel ❤

Battle meditation.
It's a long explanation.
The Deathstar books are so good.
The Death Star really was an unstoppable juggernaut. If they’d put an actual military commander in charge instead of a glorified governor the Rebels wouldn’t have stood a chance.
If they had enough TIE fighters or deployed them correctly ,the would have won.
They used a zone defense and inadequately defended the trench
Can you make a video about the supremacy mega class star dreadnaught
Yes! One of the next videos will be about it!
The death star The empire ultimate power in the universe
Meh. Vader…blah blah blah…pointing fingers…blah blah blah….doesn’t compare to the Dark Side…blah blah blah.

LONG LIVE THE EMPIRE
8 lasers converging on a single space...in space.
Even dumb kids picked up on that in the '70's
Lets see Disney retcon that.

What song is this?
All music in the video was written specifically for the channel.
7000 tie fighters and they send out 12 against the rebels.
7,000 was inadequate if the TIEs were conducting a zone defense. Non vital areas, like the polar trenches were not a priority
AI voice...?
C-. Could do better.
