Looks delicious. I am glad you added cilantro for a super flavor. I am Puerto rican and we don't add curry but I am going to cook this the way you have done in the video. Thank you and blessings
Here in the US, depending on where you get it from, in the Latin markets Tania is called Yautia or what I believe is one of the African names that some of us know it as in the Caribbean - Malanga.
it's is great! where in from Tania is yautia and it's common curry is great I just could smell all the ingredients and it's wonderful I use home grown pigeon peese it's great
pleasure to find your video, I got delivered frozen pigeon peas instead of my British Garden peas, and had no idea what to do with it. Being french, I am just suffering to catch all the ingredients name - but you are a time saver it is all under caribbeanPot.com. Brilliant!
I love this Chris! With basmati or white rice😀my mother used to make a roasted tomato choka with pepper to go with this. I have a pkt of the Guapa peas in the freezer....will make this later with eddoes. Nice👍👍👌👌
Hi Chris, very nice recipe, in case u didn't know pigeon peas is available FROZEN all year trough also seasonnal in the summer in the fresh form with the shells
Hi Chris, not sure if you already knew this but pigeon peas are popular in India and called TOOR DAL, you can always find them at your local Asian/Indian markets in dry form.
The Root is called Malanga or Yautia depending where in Latin America you are. Haitians use it is so many different way.. I'm from Miami where is cheap came to LA it's like 6.99 a pound.. This looks like a dish that Haitians make..
High Chris, the fresh pigeon peas are very [opular in India, in A LOT OF WAYS. We rarely use dry whole pigeon peas, we use them fresh, green or frozen. We normally use the dry, split hulled pigeon peas called TOOR/TUVAR/ARHAR DAAL. That is kind of staple in half of India. This is lovely.
thank you for introducing me to shado beni/ culantro. I have already asked our produce supplier if they can get it in Peterborough, On. This would make a great addition to the herbs we can currently offer to our patrons...and you know I will all over your custom Madras when available. #stillvibin #bless
When I came to Trinidad I eat this from a roti shop and it tasted amazing. Since then I've been dying for this recipe. Guyanese really need to try this. Thanks alot Chris! You don't know how happy I am after watching this video. One quick question. Can I use eddoes instead of the Tanya? I will be having this for dinner this evening with Guyanese pharatha roti 😂😂
Hey Chris, like you, I have problems getting some ingredients in my area, specifically shado beni. Any recommendations for growing your own shado beni ?
reminds me of my father. Neva see a man love curry pigeon peas so yet. I was always confused about tannia...I always thought it was a next type of eddoes. But yh Im studying in Jamaica and they call it coco...had to eat it to curb my craving for eddoes. 😢 I miss eddoes yes
Can I ask are you using fresh pigeon peas (I know they were frozen but you know what I mean). We can only get dried here in the UK as far as I know in fact they are a local delicacy but always dried. Mum used to boil them for hours and then we eat them with salt and malt vinegar but I've never seen fresh green pigeon peas. Cheers!
May I add a suggestion here, instead of cooking pigeon peas for 1.20hr or plus, are you aware to cook with rice cooker, which in real can cook fast (organic same way, no preservatives needed)?
I've never had pigeon peas, what can you compare their taste to-something more commonly known. I would like to give them a try, they look good, thanks!
hey boo....yes Chris that's u....lol....can u do a spicy orange chicken video....I knw what I want it to taste like but haven't found the full ingredients....I knw want it with the spice of ginger..not pepper hot....like sesame chicken meets sweet n sour chicken *Caribbean version....but not with all that flour batter of sesame chicken....pair it with veggies or garlic mash potatoes...oh yeah and some cashew cooked with the chicken....hmmm...I knw I just wrote a whole menu/recipe..lol Reply

caribbeanpot the pigeon peas from a Fiji store doesn't take very long to cook😄
Hi Chris you should make pespuri with pigeon peas
Greetings. How can this recipe be adjusted if one is using dry pigeon peas?
is pigeon peas the same what we. call gungo peas in Jamaica
Dawn Anderson no. Pigeon peas is different gungo is i light colour
Dawn Anderson I think it's the same.
Yes it is the same thing
I thought you are living in Canada....and not north America as you said....when did you move to north America
Curry look yummy
Can I used canned pigeon peas?
can we use the can pigeon peas?
shernelle ottley sure you can i drain and rinse add it when your potato is half cooked.
most def.. check the other video I have on here (no need to boil in water..but do rinse off the brine it's packaged in)
caribbeanpot ok cool .....thanks
caribbeanpot What if the peas have coconut milk with them? Would you add it at the time you add the liquid for the yams?
while I'm not a fan of coconut in curry (personal ting) .. yes, add it when you add the water. it will make for a wonderful, mild curry gravy.
is that Tania the same as yucca root?
YourRoyal Lioness No yucca is what we call dasheen root, tania is of the same family
Just made this but had to add fresh thyme .
I work in a West Indian grocery store in Mississauga am not trying to promote in any way but just to let people know who may be living in the hood 😊
this looks good but I'm still waiting on the doubles video
soon.. lil more patience with me (smile)
caribbeanpot I absolutely love your videos. Have you ever considered using bamboo spoons instead of metal to stir the pot?
can i use smoke meat with this dish .?
May I add a suggestion here, instead of cooking pigeon peas for 1.20hr or plus, are you aware to cook with rice cooker, which in real can cook fast (organic same way, no preservatives needed)?

I've never had pigeon peas, what can you compare their taste to-something more commonly known. I would like to give them a try, they look good, thanks!
probably the same as any other bean? You've got me thinking now. it's very versatile, used fresh./green or dried and stored for when out of season.
hey boo....yes Chris that's u....lol....can u do a spicy orange chicken video....I knw what I want it to taste like but haven't found the full ingredients....I knw want it with the spice of ginger..not pepper hot....like sesame chicken meets sweet n sour chicken *Caribbean version....but not with all that flour batter of sesame chicken....pair it with veggies or garlic mash potatoes...oh yeah and some cashew cooked with the chicken....hmmm...I knw I just wrote a whole menu/recipe..lol
