O.S maps are superb and worth every penny! The ability to print out maps for the area I am walking in is such a bonus. It means that I can have a handy A4 map in my hand to navigate with with - contained in a plastic folder to protect it, but of course I always carry the full folded O.S map of the area in my backpack. Also the routes which others have done is a constant inspiration.
Wow I didnt know u have such an amasing places in UK ! i have to go back and hike there myself! amasing. I also like to hike solo as well as Duo with my sporty wifey :D best wishes for new year! btw. garmin Fenix 6pro is my GOTO for mapa and navigation . Garmin is so good at mapping and navi on a wrist.. it actually have no competition (at all).
Brilliant video, very informative and absolutely love your drone work! Fantastic parallax on your panning shots. Just got a Tactix 7 Amoled and looking forward to using it in the beautiful Cambrian Mountains tomorrow. Thank you 👍
Great video and I have to agree on OS Maps ...absolutely invaluable for route plotting etc. I recently bought the Fenix 7X Pro Solar and I'm highly impressed with it. Very fast gps latch on and very accurate. I put Talky Toaster UK mapping on it and it works perfectly. When hiking I also carry and use my Gpsmap67 with Garmin OS mapping for extra detail if needed. However for hands free use the watch is a great companion to have on a hike. Great footage on the video - must finally get to Pen y Fan ...been saying it for years ! Once again great video and thanks for uploading!
Great video. Very good instructional format. Have a new Garmin watch so I appreciate the content. Going off subject a little but I am wondering what brand of trousers and jacket you are wearing in this video.
Great video, lovely shots 👌 I did 4 days wild camping/hiking around there in the summer. Only spoke to ponies for 3 days 😂 could have quite happily stayed there! I'm getting the enduro 3 next week. The hands free is so worth the money. Getting my phone out every 10mins was a pain in the bum, following a map is even slower. It's nice to get a good pace on!
I must say the views were spectacular. Thank you so much. For a casual runner what could be some use case scenarios with the navigation features apart of the saved locations, distance remaining, routing? I would like to practice using it more to learn how to take advantage of all the possibilities rather than needing it. Any help or useful suggestions would be appreciated.
I recently took 2 families on the Ingleborough trail (from Clapham > Cave > Trow Gill > Gaping Gill > Summit and back). I got a Garmin Enduro 3 as a Christmas present, had the basic OS Maps App subscription but didn't really know how to use any. On the way back, I wasn't sure which way to go as it was getting darker, signal kept fluctuating and ended up following an experienced hiker heading down to Horton In Ribblesdale (4.4m off course from where the cars were parked)... Then had a tough time finding a ride back to Clapham on a winter evening ... Back home in London, I am now searching for simple videos to plan routes, use offline and synch up to watches etc., This video was the simplest and most contextual I could find. Thanks a lot!
Great video thank you. After recommendation from a navigation course, I’ve recently moved from OS to outdoor active maps that include OS maps and several other layers. Impressed and worth a look.
I have been using outdoor active for some time. European maps included in the subscription, and any course that I create automatically syncs to Garmin Connect and then syncs straight to my watch. Really happy with it.
Amazing! Was wondering what the maps setting was on my Garmin 7S Saphire Solar - thanks for explaining, will look into this for upcoming hikes & possibly SUP sessions if it works on water? I’m pretty good at going off route 🙈 and “not” getting lost haha. Anna
Great video 🔥🔥🔥, I am looking to buy the new Fenix watch. Leaning more towards the MIP version. Would you suggest going with an Amoled version now that Garmin offers. Or based on your experience MIP works great while navigating and is clearer ?
Had the old Fenix 6 and now the Epix with Amoled. Both work well, much better battery without Amoled though. Prefer the Amoled for cycling when you take quick looks on the bike. Hiking non-Amoled works great.
Such a useful video. I’m an os champion and really want this for my walks so don’t have to keep checking my phone. Have you any idea if this works with the fenix 6? Many thanks
Although you've downloaded onto your watch it'll have topoactive maps or similar not os maps ....I had to pay for outdoor maps plus on my fenix 8 to get os on my watch ... That said topoactive are good
Hey chris, thanks for that, i got OS premium based on this video. Really struggling with other map downloads being stuck on 0% (irrespective of wifi speed) is there a fix for this?
Great video. thanks. Quick question. If you are following a route on your watch does it also record your hike as a GPX so you can see on Strava etc? Thanks
Interesting vid. Here’s a question for all the Fenix owners. Has anyone suffered from the back sensor screen on their Fenix developing micro cracks? The issue is meant to be related to Deet affecting the plastic screen on the back of the watch. After informing Garmin they were not giving anything away as to how many instances they have had reported. Mine is a Fenix 5.
OS maps are great I'm a subscriber. Wish it was simple to upload a route to Garmin using a mobile phone as there is no Garmin app available to share it with. I have to save to Google Drive and then open it and send to Garmin.
I use os maps app but don’t bother plotting. Just need the app to confirm where I am. I study the route beforehand and usually take a photo of the guide book page as well. I also take a paper map and compass as well but rarely use them. Usually a Harvey map if available. Also have a fenix 6 pro for grid references.
Hi Chris, Great video thanks. I've tried getting the 3D view on the app on my phone but can't seem to find it. Do you know if it is available on the phone app or just laptop/iPad? Thank again
I believe its only available on the Website. They do have a unique Tabletop 3D feature which allows you to project a 3D map of the route onto a flat surface using your camera.
It depends on whether the route you're using goes in both directions or not. If not, on every Garmin I've used, if you go into the Navigation menu during an activity, there is a 'navigate back to start option' which will take you back on exactly the reverse of where you've come so far. Or if you're following a route, you can reload it and select to reverse its direction.
Navigation is a skill, Not a technology. Batteries fail. To me this is setting a dangerous precedence, Which all Mountain rescue groups will agree with...
You're hardly testing your navigation skills if you're following a line your watch! I get the distinct impression you thinking actually navigating with a map and compass is a bit old fashioned and pointless?
I’m not, glad he won the only none idiot in the election, one is an old fart who can’t even walk up plane stairs and the other is a women with no achievements
Brilliant video! Simple, effective, no fuss! Cheers Chris 👍🏼

I do exactly the same. My last set a complete set of the river Spey in Scotland for a canoe river trip.
Perfect instructional video. So succinct, all the essentials and a great flow to the video complimented with absolutely stunning footage. Thanks!
This is brilliant thank you!!

Beautiful views Bro.
oh e mgee, that is amazing .I never knew about this... thanks
Very nice video - thanks a lot!
Just the ticket. Cheers.
Great video Chris..just subbed and liked
Super useful video thanks!
It hearts my soul to see 0 trees though.
why does it hurt your soul? there just arent any trees there
@Joe-zo2yo Exactly. There aren't any trees but that's not how it's supposed to be but human intervention.
Clear as mud!

Just purchased the fenix 8 .... luv it
Top quality video Chris! The technology in these watches is second to none. Where do you get your GPX files from if you are hiking outside of the UK?

Do you have to buy outdoor maps+ to see a map on a Garmin watch? When I download a GPSx I just get a pink route on a white background
Great video 🔥🔥🔥, I am looking to buy the new Fenix watch. Leaning more towards the MIP version. Would you suggest going with an Amoled version now that Garmin offers. Or based on your experience MIP works great while navigating and is clearer ?

Great that it can alert you if you go off route. I do that all the time lol
Such a useful video. I’m an os champion and really want this for my walks so don’t have to keep checking my phone. Have you any idea if this works with the fenix 6? Many thanks

OS maps also own outdoor active which i think is much better and works better without singal
Hey chris, thanks for that, i got OS premium based on this video. Really struggling with other map downloads being stuck on 0% (irrespective of wifi speed) is there a fix for this?
Can you have your map and track open at the same time as the hike app open which track your hike
Great video. thanks. Quick question. If you are following a route on your watch does it also record your hike as a GPX so you can see on Strava etc? Thanks
Yes.

Can you use an iPhone to plot and download a route instead of a computer?
Thanks
You can.
Does the OS premium include snap routes the Wainwright Coast to Coast, I entered the name as a route and not recognised.
Would this go on a garmin venu watch?
OS maps are great I'm a subscriber. Wish it was simple to upload a route to Garmin using a mobile phone as there is no Garmin app available to share it with. I have to save to Google Drive and then open it and send to Garmin.
I plot a route on OS maps from my iphone, save the route, export gpx to Garmin Connect, sync my Garmin Adventure, and away we go
Guess it's not available for Samsung/android phone!
I use os maps app but don’t bother plotting. Just need the app to confirm where I am. I study the route beforehand and usually take a photo of the guide book page as well. Hi mate great video, is it possible to get the gpx file of your route? cheers
Yep, you can export the gpx file to other apps on your phone. Do it on computer too.
Will the route automatically direct me back to where I started or do I have to do somthing?

@ okay great thank you for the information
So you don't actually get the OS mapping on the watch itself, just the Garmin mapping?
Correct
I have been doing the same for years. Never had a problem.
Describing having an actual map as “old school” is pretty terrifying
If this video does not motivate to go hike, then i don’t know what will
Navigation is a skill, Not a technology.
Batteries fail. To me this is setting a dangerous precedence, Which all Mountain rescue groups will agree with...
Garmin watches + OS maps. Easy hiking navigation, not so easy on the wallet.
Plenty of great second hand ones about. I got a Fenix 7x solar sapphire for £300 in October
Bit of a faff though I think personally
I finf outdoor active much better with far more routes
@@RamblingTog everyone’s got a preference, I’ve been using OS maps for years and had no issues with it.

Fantastic video! I'm just disappointed Garmin donated to Trump's campaign.
I’m not, glad he won the only none idiot in the election, one is an old fart who can’t even walk up plane stairs and the other is a women with no achievements
Grow up. Who cares. If you think about trump 24/ 7 then you need to get help.
