Hello friends. I have a 2020 R 1250 GS. The TFT screen is correctly connected to my iPhone and my SENA 10S Intercom. However, in the Telephone Menu: The Phone Book and Call List appear correctly but FAVORITES do not appear. This makes making a call very cumbersome because the contact list is very large.
I have had a GSA lowered for ten days now. I think they have resolved the side strand issue as mine is fine. I have had a GS in the past which had a Nav 6 which was the worst sat nav I have ever used. For the last two years have been using a Garmin XT mounted on a Honda using a ram mount and a secure locking unit. I5 took me half an hour to remove the ugly sat nav cradle that came with my new bike and replace it with the unit I had on the Honda. Had to buy a connector from Nippy Normans which cost £19.99. It wont work with the wizzy wheel but to be honest I never used it on my old GS and cannot see that I would ever want to. I think almost every manufacturer rips their customers ff with OEM parts not just BMW. I love your films and am about to hit Ireland next Monday to do half of the WAW after seeing your great films.
I have a 2018 Triumph Tiger XCA and I have considered changing to a 1250 GS, but I truly believe that I have a better value with the Triumph it is fast comfortable and nimble for an ADV bike, great video Brother and I love your honesty most people highly praise the 1250 GS but I wanted to know the drawbacks of having one, and you told me, thanks so much for your honesty!
I use and will keep on using my cell phone for navigation. I use the BMW app to plot specific routes (or when it rains), WAZE to go to a specific destination (which informs about speed traps, cars on the shoulder, debris on the road, traffic jams and re-routes etc etc), Google Maps to find the nearest petrol station easily. This is old tech and criminally expensive. It is like a fax machine in times of e-mail.
I'm with you on the nav, it's way too daffy. You have to go into categories, scroll down to Towns then you can access your destination directly. How did you manage to have the full keyboard on yours? As for the stand, have you tried putting your foot behind the stand when it is down and adjusting it out against the spring?
Hi Richard, Thanks for your feedback !. I have swapped the Nav 6 out now for my TomTom and much happier for it !!. I also had the side stand shortened by about 1cm and it's made a world of difference ! It's perfick now ! :)
Totally agree with Navigator 6. Its rubbish. Secondly, how can you not mention the windscreen wobbling and rattling. It looks and feels cheap and when off road i fear it will rattle off soon.
About the side stand. I had a lowered 2017 with no issue. Just got the 2021 and noted problem with the side stand. Possible solution: get a 2017 side stand?
I don’t think the phone is a rudimentary system. In fact, I only use my Garmin Montana as a backup, and my BMW Garmin as an absolute last resort, which I’ve never used.
Half expected gps to sing “Dingle bells Dingle bells, Dingle all the way!” As an American trucker I would rate the Garmin OTR 1000 as a better OS to use. Plus it’s voice controlled. Seems I would just get my own Garmin gps for my gs when I get one. Is BMW connections to unit proprietary for their Garmin or can any Garmin or brand gps fit the bikes gps mount?
good video. You may have already done this but check with BMW as their current description of the factory option low suspension bike states it comes fitted with a different center and side stand.
You forgot to add paint work and quality,I got rid of my 18k 2016 RT1200 due to paint blistering it had had a complete swing arm and final drive due to blistering the front engine casing was bubbling even though i had a fender extender on and ACF50,center stand was rusting and brake Banjo's rusting(Both not covered by warranty)BMW have just given up on quality control and thrown it over to cheaper imports. As for Garmin, they've just brought out the XT which to me is an unbranded Nav 6 but i hope it has a better software. Keep em coming and stay safe,Oh I resolved all issues by buying a Triumph Tiger
I am mostly riding my lowered 1200 in hth highest position, but Yes you've got a point with the long side-stand. I will be allerd when i'm riding low. thnx
I was in the BMW workshop and they updated the software of the bike. Also, I updated the software of the Bluetooth SENA (New 10S) and I updated the software of my new iPhone 11 Pro. None of this has helped. BMW Connected App is downloaded in my iPhone a active during my ride. The Favorites option still does not appear in the Telephone Menu.
Let’s face it, one usually has to be older to be able to afford it, in addition to being able to handle it across road, dirt, gravel, sand, mud, etc. It’s so well-rounded, but only if the rider is. Typically that takes time-age, but not always.
Hi Mabs, its a TomTom Rider 410. They have a newer model thats a bit faster and can be updated without connecting it to a laptop etc called the Rider 550.
I agree completely on the Navigator, having used it on a 2015 RT, 2019 K1600GT, and now as I wait for delivery of my R1250GSA (2022), your video confirmed that the only reason I purchased the NAV6 is that I didn't want to look at the blank mount and think (ya cheap bastard) why didn't you buy it. I usually pipe Waze through the helmet. Additionally, I agree with the price comments, but I just can't seem to separate from the Brand reputation and quality.
I have the low version as well and the long side stand is a ridiculous oversight on BMW's part. It feels like the bike is going to fall over if the ground isnt perfectly level.
Correct. The Navigator is way overprized. Since I use the App BMW Motorrad Connect on my smartphone, connected with bluetooth on board computer, I no longer use Navigator.
I have the standard HP GS I have bought a Mount for my iPhone that fits in the satnav Mount on the GS and Use your phone as the satnav much better than the garmen and the phone updates itself and charges from the mount
I noticed that you have an add-on tool box on you left pannier rack with your low-suspension bike. I have a question. Would that box hit the rear fender and/or the hub of the final drive when under load and on bumpy roads? I have the same bike and am thinking of adding the same box. Thank you.
why buy a sat nav , people seem to think you have to have one. its crazy i know where i'm going and iff i'm going along and not sure about where to turn off, i stop for a minute and check on my phone.
had a 2019 1250 GS. Great bike when it wasn't in the shop...leaky brake calipers that took 3 weeks to get replaced, 3 different times when there was some malfunction "Spring strut adjustment faulty" "Fault in engine control". One I was on a week long trip and had to find a BMW dealer and it took 24 hours to get me back on the road. Loved many things about the bike but for a $23K bike to have so many problems in the first 5k miles was ridiculous. Traded it
According to BMW's configurator, the seat hight reduction comes with an "appropriately shorter side stand". Maybe they just forgot to mount it. But one thing that me really pisses me off is that the bikes come either with Bridgestone or Michelin tyres and there is no way you may chose your tyres (except road or off-road). Regarding the NavVI it is much easier to use Garmin's Smart Link App to send your destination to the NavVI from your smartphone.
Hi Jean, yes Ive heard it's suppose to be shorter, but one of my subscribers sent me a photo of their stand on their lowered GSA and it does look slightly different to mine, so I think a wrong stand may have ended up on my bike somehow. not a problem now as I had it cut 1cm shorter and re-welded and it's perfick now !. I Like the Michelins ! I was using Anakee 3's and had planned to try the Anakee adventures so when they came on the New GS I was pleasantly surprised how good they were !
Adventure Bike Pilot regarding the tyres, it’s a 50/50 chance to get the ones you want. My dealer received 2 GSA, one with the Battlax, the other one with the Anakee Adventure. Mine came with the former, which I don’t like. Luckily the owner of the other va GSA didn’t mind switching the wheels. Love that Michelin. Rise safe
@@MCIreland99 hello and thanks for the informative video! Where did you have th side stand shortened? How did they calculate that 1cm would be enough? I have the exact same problem
Interesting video - I am awaiting my new lowered Rallye and will get the side stand cut down, I had the same problem with my first BMW, a 2014 1200LC with lowered suspension, it went over three times, twice ion the wind and once a gentle nudge from a car…I have a friend who will cut out a section and resell the foot back on…I guess the amount to take out will be the difference between the standard and lowered seat heights but will experiment before he gets the cutting gear out! Safe riding…
I had 1cm taken out and its perfect. Although i think there was a wrong stand put on either in the factory or perhaps at the dealership as i bought the Demo model.
I’ve used the same TomTom all across Europe, 10 States in the USA and all across Canada (for work, visiting many, many locations, including all over New York) and they are brilliant! I used a Garmin and dumped it after an hour...totally frustrating and useless! If you misspell it doesn’t find anything, and you must start again. You are 100% right, BMW should offer both systems! 👏💪👍
You all prolly dont give a shit but does someone know of a trick to log back into an Instagram account?? I stupidly forgot my password. I would love any assistance you can give me.
@Tristen Magnus Thanks for your reply. I got to the site thru google and Im trying it out now. I see it takes quite some time so I will get back to you later with my results.
Hey bud , just for your interest, i have 2020 GSA HP LO SUSPENSION , I have a Wunderlich extender on the foot of the sidestand, which accrding to them is 8mm thick. My bike does not rest anywhere near tip over point?
Cheers. I'd be curious to know the Measurements of your stand and is it a dead straight bar or does it have a bended 2 part like the old adventure stand had. I have a feeling my bike might have a non Adv road stand on it. IF you think of it I'd love to know the dims and get a pic of your stand ? Much appreciated for your feedback !
Hi there, very interesting vlog, however, not sure I agree on everything. Can you say you hate the GSA when talking about the Garmin, when it’s used on other BMWs also? And the issue with the side stand on the Low, I don’t think you re correct there, I have a Low and I think they have shortened it, if you compare it with a regular height GSA there’s a difference. I’m not arguing matey, just pointing out a few things.
Hi Michael, It would be a dull world if we all agreed with each other !. On the Garmin, I added it in to the dislikes as BMW effectively try and railroad it's customers into taking the Garmin. If I want my GS to fully integrate with a sat nav, then it's the Navigator or nothing so it's integral to the bike. I understand other BMW's are in the same position but the episode is specific to my experience with my bike. On the Stand, yes your right about the stand, I have had several subscribers say the same that they have a shorter stand on their lowered GS and I think that there may have been an issue with mine that it either got the wrong stand at the factory or the dealership may have swapped it out for some reason, my bike was an ex Demo from my local dealership and I have a sneaky suspicion something may have happened during a test ride and they swapped it out. When I first got the bike it was very precarious when on the side stand so I had to do something. Doesn't matter now anyway as I have it sorted and Im very happy with it now.
Totally agree, here in the USA the bike takes on persona of being Uber rich or snotty! Which I’m either of them! The bike is well designed and Thru years of development it’s become the benchmark! I use my 2018 1200 gsa as touring machine! I’m 6’3 , 275lbs - power lifter and this machine has plenty of power and the ergonomics are perfect for me to ride 8-10 hour ride. Also chaps my ass is you need BMW to clear off the maintenance reminder-$55.00 , I do my own maintenance. Great video, love to ride Ireland.
I think the price is the hardest pill to swallow when it comes to this bike. I just priced out a fully loaded GS1250A HP and with side panniers it is $33577 Canadian vs $15900 for a brand new Yamaha Super Tenere ES with side panniers. The BMW may be a better bike but the Yamaha is arguably the most reliable adventure bike on the market. If money was no option I would buy the GS but I cant even begin to justify the increased cost over the other options out there. Beautiful bike though, just wish I could afford it!
Totally agree, once they stick that blue and white badge on it they basically just overcharge for everything. I love the bike, but BMW do milk it, not just on the bike but for the parts and servicing. But as long as suckers like me are willing to cough it up they will keep doing it.
Side stand: as far as I know a factory lowered GSA comes with a proper and adjusted side stand; not being so would be outrageous for this price tag. Did you google that information and/or talked to your dealer?
Yep, I spoke to the dealer and they advised the stand on the GS and the GSA is the same. BUT one of my subscribers sent me the measurements of his stand and it was different ! SO I think my dealer was incorrect and somehow a standard GS stand ended up on my GSA. In the end I had a place just cut 1cm out of it and weld and respray it and that resolved it. You'd never know it was welded and it is now perfectly leans over without feeling precarious.
Just wondering have you had any issues with music cutting out when listening to anything through the tft on a sena if you have one? I’ve found sena 30K connected to tft and my iPhone X cuts out a lot when the engine is under load??
Hi Kevin, I don't often listen to music when riding the bike, but when I do, I haven't had any issue's. I have an Interphone tour linked into my galaxy S10+ and it's pretty good when I do use it. Did u try linking it straight from the phone to the Sena ?
I have the same BMW Nav V1, and completely agree with your comments. It is very poor, and a continuous source of frustration.Particularly when trying to plan a trip with multiple waypoints, or specific route choices. To make matters worse, none of the tutorial videos to show you how to master it, are now available on the Garmin /basecamp website. It almost feels like it is not being properly supported by Garmin anymore. It leaves you feeling that you’ve been cheated out of £600+, and worse SO much valuable time.
Yep, I found it overly complicated and none of the online training was very comprehensive. Ive heard some people say that after BMW signed the exclusive contract with Garmin they became unhappy that Garmin focused more on hardware development instead of user experience/software which seems to line up with my experience. I found the Garmin is faster but complicated but the TomTom is sooo easy to use but slightly slower to load but once running is fine. I recently updated my TomTom from the Rider 410 to the 550 and all I had to do was log in to the new 550 and it automatically loaded all my routes and POI's etc. So I know I can safely keep building POI's in my TomTom and each new system I get over the years it all just carries over with no fiddling around.
Yep, Ive had it a few months now and the more I get to know it, the more it confirms the TomTom was a better system. I think I will swap out the mountings on the bike and install my TomTom fully onto the new bike.
I just use the cheap bracket out of China and use my iPhone with the Motorrad app, $40 against $1,300 here in Australia, it’s a no brainer. In Oz long trips are pretty much a no GPS affair and around town where you might need help, the phone works beautifully, plus the phone bracket has two usb outlets that draw power the same way the Garmin would, no need to change plugs around etc.
I agree with many points you make, especially the price, I still bought the gs adventure, I just find the riding to be amazing. Suspension, brakes and handling are amazing. If you don't mind me asking, is this the stock seat ? I have the stock comfort seat on mine and I do get very sore from it, I'm a heavy guy at 240 pounds, have you felt any discomfort on that seat ?
Hi Stefan, Thanks for your feed back. yes that is a stock seat on my bike. I do find it comfortable but I also find after a couple of hours I do need a break from it.
I found this video really helpful along with your likes as I also have a 2019 lowered version of the same bike you have. I was interested in your point about the side stand as I haven’t noticed the lack of lean? I have taken a photo of my side stand with a tape against it for you to have a look at and compare. Not sure how to send it though, please advise. Stuart.
@@MCIreland99 Thank you Sir! Also, is that low seat comfortable? I'm vertically challenged at 5'7 " 30 inseam and would feel better with the set up you have.
How short do you have to be to need the dropped frame? I'm short myself at 5'8in so was wondering where the low seat versus low frame option is needed. Love the bike, it's the one I'd go for.
Hard to say, it's more about inside leg length I think. If you have about 31" or more inside leg your probably ok with Standard. Once your under 30" inside leg then a lower suspension GS is probably better. I have a 29" inside leg and I definitely appreciate the lower version, my last GS was standard but I put an extra low comfort seat on and was still on my toes. With the lower suspension and seat in low position on the LC, I can get 95% of my feet down.
I consider these items should be standard free options, illuminated controls, heated seat, electric screen or knob left hand side, large screen, waterproof compartment with power, comfort seat, tilting tft screen, I would like self cancelling indicators. Possibility to fit something to bars slightly wider than panniers for filtering in heavy traffic rather than clenched buttocks. Just a few things off top of head,, more if I thought about it. Agree entirely with your comments about finding towns on garmin sat nav, try it in France where there lots of towns with similar names and might be 600 miles apart. Minor point, drive a car, ride a bike? Sorry! Ah yes, cup holder for trips to Starbucks to confirm stereotype BMW owner or maybe Harley.
Hey mate, not sure what part of the country your in but theres a top class detailer in Galway called FB Autodetailing and he does PFP, (plastic film protection), I've seen his work up close, mostly cars but he done a job on a kawasaki touring bike for some guy recently which cost €800, yours could be different, point is if your concerned about the body work getting scratched etc give him a shout. This guys does alot of detailing for BMW dealerships and has guys come to him all over Ireland
@@MCIreland99 give him a message on Facebook hes crazy busy with customers all the time, spends about a week detailing cars if they want the full 9 yards
Very good review of the Navigator. Just ordered a new Low Chassis GSA. I'll avoid the Navigator. I've seen a cradle adaptor to fit your phone where the Nav would go and it wirelessly charges your too. Anyone tried one? Also, from BMW site: "The lowered suspension with shorter spring elements results in a reduced seat height of only 840/860 millimetres. This means that even smaller riders can enjoy improved stability and have better control over their machine when manoeuvring. The centre and side stands are appropriately shorter. The lowered suspension can only be ordered with the optional equipment Dynamic ESA ." I'll let you know about the side stand when mine arrives. Cheers for the info'.
I really enjoy your videos. Very fair and very detailed. Top man. I have a Bmws1000xr. The side stand on those are ridiculously short to a point where you think it's going to tip over. I wonder if they are the same part?
Very possible. It's amazing the amount of other people are also finding their side stands either way too short or too tall. Its more common than I had thought.
You can use the BMW connect for routes to the TFT, but I found it's a bit laggy and you will pass a turnoff before it tells you your on it. But give it a go, you may have better success with it. Connect your phone via Bluetooth to the Bike. Download the BMW Connect App on your phone. On the App go to Rides section. On the Bike TFT go to navigation and you should be able to send a route from your phone to your TFT.
I live in Munkedal, neigbouring Dingle (västra götaland). I would say that never have I ever chosen Dingle as my goal in my gps, actually trying to stay clear of Dingle. 🤣
Out of Curiosity I took a look at Dingle in Sweden on google street view and yes it looks very different to Dingle in Ireland ! If you haven't done it already you should definitely visit the wild Atlantic way and stay Dingle in Ireland as it is a fantastic little sea side town. Unfortunately they are missing their Dolphin Fungie !
Will definitly go to Ireland at some point, last year we rode our bikes through the scottish highlands. 😁 hope I see you on the roads once this pandemic has ended! Best wishes from sweden.
I was in a dealers some while ago and he was using the sidestand length as the easiest way to tell if the bike was a lowered version. I suspect he was only looking at the difference between the heel peg and the foot, (it'll be easier to spot rather than looking at the whole length). I presume the centre stand is shorter too? Happy to have a measure if you want. Good video btw. 👍
I do like my Garmin (used in my car) but I too have to agree with you on the search ability. The search function on the Garmin sucks! As of now, since I made the latest update, when I search for something the GPS is shutting down. Apart from the search issue I haven't got any other bad things to say about it. I wish it was an outdoors model and not just one I can use in a car. :D
For nav I added a tank bag that could take my ipad mini. I can then use maps.me/google earth or tracks4africa to have an accurate moving map. Works brilliantly but the only problem I have is the ipad overheats in the sun. Havent found a solution for that yet. I dont want a gps that reroutes me and I might not see it and then I could get lost. Moving map gives me more control
Overheating due to good weather wont happen here in Ireland Im afraid ! :) too cold and wet !. A sat Nav will keep to your exact route if you save it as a track instead of a route. The difference is how a sat nav handles the route if you deviate from it. On my trip this year to southern peninsulas of Ireland I used the Nav VI, if I deviated from my Track it would just cancel the track and then re-calculate a route straight to my destination. With a TomTom, if you deviate from the Track it will try re-route you back to the nearest point of your original track. This is the best solution because you can stay on your planned track but if you want to explore a little and you see something interesting on the day, then you can do that knowing when your finished the TomTom will then show you the way back to your original Track.
@@MCIreland99 lol thats funny, I must say south africa mostly has great weather. I have never seen snow and Im 46, dont know if thats good pr bad. I get what you are saying about gps, my garmin irritated me because it was a pain to plan a route on a computer and upload it to the gps. Hope the bmw gps is better. Anyway - enjoy the ride in ireland!
Hi from County Cavan! Really enjoyed that as I’m thinking about getting the same model. You’ve given me a lot to think over??🤔🤔 I’m toying between the normal GS and the GSA but one thing for sure after seeing your video is that I won’t be getting the SatNav.😂 Currently use my phone onboard my FJR Bluetoothed to my Sena intercom and it’s perfect. I’ll check out your other videos and sub you. Cheers, Dave.🏍
Cheers Dave. Cant go wrong with a GS standard or Adventure. The SatNav is defo a personal choice, a lot of people swear by the Navigator but I just didn't gel with it.
I see you have the toolbox behind your luggage mount. I have the lowered GSA (2018) and Touratech said I can't mount a toolbox on the lowered version. What brand is your toolbox?
I'm more of a Mercedes guy, and truth be told I wouldn't be caught dead in a BMW car...mostly because owners wear purple socks with brown loafers with tassels. Trust me - I've seen it. I have yet to see anyone like that on a GS....lol...and, let's face it, BMW does make a terrific motorcycle, and I'm debating on owning one in the not-too-distant future.
Hi Dale, Cheers ! I did look but I couldn't get a definitive answer either from BMW or anyone else I asked so the quickest and cheapest solution was to have the stand cut and re-welded and it has totally resolved the issue. Only cost €60.00
Garmin zumo xt works a lot better than these. I moved from nav 5 to the zumo and it’s a massive improvement. Only downside is you won’t be able to use the wiz wheel. Thank you for the excellent video. There are very few videos on TH-cam as honest as this on about gs.
Cheers Naren. Ive never tried the Zumo although I think that is the "go to" Garmin for most riders who are not using Nav V or Nav VI. I had been using the TomTom for years before getting the Nav VI, so when I realized I didn't like it, it made more sense for me to go back to the TomTom that I knew so well especially when any Sat Nav you pick other than the Navigator's will mean you lose the wiz wheel control, but to be honest I found I wasn't using the wiz wheel anyway with the Nav VI and the touchscreen on the TomTom is very user friendly.
Interesting. I’ve recently picked up my bike, and have to agree with you regarding the GPS, it’s far too elaborate, but there’s no alternative if you want to access all the info. I do feel that the paintwork could be better, I have already scuffed the right hand tank side, just by using a Kevlar suit. Very annoying. I’ve ordered some helicopter tape, which I hope will prevent further damage. Haven’t had a problem with the side stand yet, but I’ll keep an eye out. . Love the bike though , ride safe.ATB
Your the 2nd person to mention the paintwork. I haven't had it long enough for that to start appearing as an issue but I will certainly keep a watchful eye for it !
G'day from Australia brother. Fully agree with you regarding the sat nav. I have a TomTom 550 hard wired to my Vstrom 1000 and it's so simple to use and half the bloody price. As for pricing, that will always be an issue for this particular bike as it is in high demand! I will be trading my big Vee for a GSA1250 later on as I just love how the beemer meets all of my requirements. We have a lot of ground to cover in Oz and that 30ltr tank will come in handy, not to mention the great comfort levels of the bike. The image factor. Who gives a shit what others think! You buy and ride the machine for YOUR pleasure, no-one else's. Leave the image bullshit to H-D. Interesting video as my mate was wondering if a low suspension model was available as he is a little on the shorter side. Wearing high heels is not an option, lol! Subbed brother, stay riding.
G'day Andrew. I just bought the 550, should arrive tomorrow so I am looking forward to seeing how it has improved on the 410. That Nav 6 is going on Ebay, got sick of it. Let me know how you get on with the new GSA. Your gonna love it !
Great video! Thanks for sharing your insights. I have exactly the same « problems » with the center stand as you have described. I also do have a lowered 1200GSA directly from the factory and it is often a pain on uneven underground. My only solution is to indeed put it on the centerstand. However there have been instances that I had to turn around the bike (driving) because I was simple not possible to get of the bike (because of the bike was leaning way too much to the right... Other than that, a great bike of course!
Right on all counts (including large older white guy) Surprising you didn't mention tire noise blowing up from the front wheel/forks... Drives me mad ... Ducati V4S is same price ...1290SAS less but build quality not the same. Obviously don't buy any OEM branded (consumable) parts (oil filters brakes) and stuff bmw doesn't make... Too bad you didn't search before being fleeced with the awful NAV VI ... XT ZUMO is the light year aheads ... GOAR (Get out and ride)
Cheers Constantine. At the time I did the video I had only run mostly road orientated tires which are not too noisy. I have recently done some off road training and hope to start doing some more adventurous trails and will start to use more 50/50 tires and will most likeley do a review on how the switch feels.
You have every accessory possible as I can see. You don't strike me as the off road type so why didn't you get the 1600rt or something instead? You say you don't like the stereotype of bmw ? Well bmw car drivers are completely narcissistic and dangerous. In my part of the world there might be a dozen of these bikes and I bought it because I see it for the quality and the rarity. Also not being afraid to take it down a dirt road like my Ducati multistrada
Hi, Thanks for your feedback. Your right, I don't go off road if I can help it, but lets be honest, neither do 90% of Adventure bike owners (Most "off roaders" wont buy a GS to go off road, While it is capable in the right hands, generally it's too big and heavy especially for a novice, they would buy trail bike in a 250 or 400). People buy a GS because they like them and if the road happens to change they have something that can manage it. Just like most people who are not Moto GP Racers buy BMW S1000RR's or R1's or Fireblades don't race but they buy these hyper bikes anyway even though they can't race them on public streets, and city moms buy huge 4x4 SUV's to take the kids to school. People like what they like. It terms of a 1600, I hired a K1600 for a few weeks and i didn't like it. Too heavy a bike, it's fine when moving but it's a lot of bike when not moving and very awkward in tight single lanes if you need to turn around. The new 1200 RT is actually harder to get your feet down than the GS as the seat is so wide. Also, whilst I don't go off road, I do a lot of exploring down "Boreens" which are very narrow twin tracks that are often full of gravel, mud, potholes and thorn bushes that are not suitable for fully faired bikes. I agree with you about BMW Car Drivers, I do feel they are in general aggressive but I don't want to paint all of them like that, I am sure a lot of it is just a perception. For me, the GS is the best all round bike that suits the Irish roads and my driving requirements and can handle all situations.
Great video thanks. You are right about the image and that does put me off owning one. The upright position and height makes it look like GS owners are imperiously looking down their noses at the rest of us! I know, like all bikers, you are nice people really!
GS are great bikes without a doubt with used machines often showing high miles. But my goodness the price - back in the day a bike was 1/3 the price of a car now its more like 2/3. Enjoy your riding!
Very good Video! Had exactly the same issues with the SAT Nav. Had a Navigator 5 on my K 1600 GT, a Nightmare!.....Now I have a TOMTOM Rider 450 on my beloved Indian Springfield, much, much better, faster and intuitive to use. Also route planning on PC is much nicer and faster with the TomTOM. For Garmins Basecamp you need a master degree! :-)....Regards from Germany,......was watching your Video because I suddenly felt in Love with the GS after Test Riding it recently!.....OMG, I was a GS-Hater and now I wanna buy one as an additional bike next to my Indian.
Had a Garmin and got rid, as you say far far far to complex for what's needed unless your a nerd, no offence nerds the TT rider every time sooooo easy to use!
Well, if I'm going to get handicapped, get my head chopped off on a road or killed in the middle of nowhere, I might as well do it on THE BEST bike ever. GS 1250 forever. I WANT a clear conscience, i WANT to know in my last second of my precious life, that I DID everything in my power, and buying such a bike sure is something you can DO to improve your chances on the road. Fuck Aprillia, fuck Ducatti, fuck em all.
This starts off -just stupid ! The 'Rallye' version is intended to be 'Tall' as its the bike intended for off-Road competition. It needs massive ground clearance to clear the obstacles -this bike was intended to do. I'm guessing, someone sold you on a short bike. The least amount of fuel a GS can carry, I can't blame you for being disappointed.. But, not for your reasons
It's obvious you have little offroad experience and ..haven't done the real upgrades like Ohlin shocks, better belly pan.risers on the handlebars...getting aggressive and doing a proper BMW offroad course...drop the bike a few times and really see what it can do offroad...sad about being so short.
Thanks for the video, very honest and to the point. I just ordered oil change kit for $97 (4L Advantec 5w-40 & original filter) i will do it my self and save couple hundred bucks from going to the dealer to put towards the new Garmin zumo XT GPS that's about five hundred bucks. Mine is 2019 GS1250HP Adv
ITs great to be able to do that stuff yourself. Im terrible at the mechanical stuff so I always leave it in to the shop, I just don't have the skill set for it. Thats a great price for the Zumo, for the BMW Nav 6 which is basically the same device it's €1000(Approx $1200 USD) here in Ireland.
The Navigator is made by Garmin had that too now using Garmin Zumo XT BMW Mount removed entirely and replaced with Garmin Setup.
I don't use either an Iphone or a Sena so I am not sure if this is normal. I'll have a look at what it does on my Samsung and let you know !
I saw tonight that you can get a phone bracket that will fit into your satnav bracket and you can use your phone with the handbar controller.
If u get the name of it please send it on. Thx

It was quicker to get it cut and welded than try convince the dealership I bought it in, that it was not the right stand for the bike ! ;)
My side stand seems to be normal. My factory lowered GS leans just right.
Dont worry, if that starts happening to mine there will be a raging video to document it ! :)
Hi. Which TomTom model are you showing? Thanks
Hi Mabs, its a TomTom Rider 410. They have a newer model thats a bit faster and can be updated without connecting it to a laptop etc called the Rider 550.
Thank you. Ride safe.
Im with you about the Brand. I may not like the price or a lot of the dealerships, but thats not the bikes fault, it's an epic piece of machinery !
Try the Garmin Direct app to quickly transfer your contact to the Nav 6
I have the low version as well and the long side stand is a ridiculous oversight on BMW's part. It feels like the bike is going to fall over if the ground isnt perfectly level.
Exactly ! I had 1cm cut out and the stand re-welded and re-sprayed. It's perfect now and you would never know it was cut & welded !
Correct. The Navigator is way overprized. Since I use the App BMW Motorrad Connect on my smartphone, connected with bluetooth on board computer, I no longer use Navigator.
And the app is free
I have the standard HP GS I have bought a Mount for my iPhone that fits in the satnav Mount on the GS and Use your phone as the satnav much better than the garmen and the phone updates itself and charges from the mount
Cheers John, does it work well with pre mapped GPX Files ?
AltRider has an adjustable side stand
I noticed that you have an add-on tool box on you left pannier rack with your low-suspension bike. I have a question. Would that box hit the rear fender and/or the hub of the final drive when under load and on bumpy roads? I have the same bike and am thinking of adding the same box. Thank you.
Hi Phillip, No I just returned from a 2000km trip on a lot of back and bumpy roads with no issue's.
Thank you for your answer.
why buy a sat nav , people seem to think you have to have one. its crazy i know where i'm going and iff i'm going along and not sure about where to turn off, i stop for a minute and check on my phone.
always put it on the center stand if you cannot do it get help blowing over on the kickstand is almost impossible in the right conditions
had a 2019 1250 GS. Traded it
Sorry to hear that David, you must have got a bad un !
@Will Kayson Instablaster ;)
@Tristen Magnus Thanks for your reply. I got to the site thru google and Im trying it out now.
I see it takes quite some time so I will get back to you later with my results.
@Tristen Magnus it worked and I now got access to my account again. I am so happy!
Thanks so much you saved my ass :D
@Will Kayson No problem :)
Adventure Bike Pilot will measure and take some pics tomorrow 👌👌
Do you have an Instagram acc so i can dm you?
Thanks for watching !! If you make it over to Ireland let me know, I'll be happy to give you some advice on your routes.
Agree with your list. Spot on.
Adventure Bike Pilot does that use Bluetooth or is it hard wired?
Bluetooth.
I totally agree with your opinion about Garmin VI a very confusing software.
BMW will include the satnav into the dashboard soon.
Hopefully it's not a Garmin ! ;) It would be nice to have a choice.
As for your POI complaint just go to settings, maps, show POI.
Fair point on the Sat Nav 6, i found it very long winded to use. I used my Iphone in the end....much better!
@@MCIreland99 Yeah figured as much. Gonna see if a weightloss makes a difference, or rather a big enough difference. If not, aftermarket seat it is
I found this video really helpful along with your likes as I also have a 2019 lowered version of the same bike you have. I was interested in your point about the side stand as I haven’t noticed the lack of lean? I have taken a photo of my side stand with a tape against it for you to have a look at and compare. Not sure how to send it though, please advise. Stuart.
Thanks very much Stu ! I appreciate it. you can email me at adventure_bike_pilot@outlook.com
Great video...Is that the low seat along with the low suspension?
Yes, it is the low seat (BMW Low) on the low chassis bike
@@MCIreland99 Thank you Sir! Also, is that low seat comfortable? I'm vertically challenged at 5'7 " 30 inseam and would feel better with the set up you have.
what is seat height of this bike ?
@@MCIreland99 Thanks for the reply, yes I should go try one :-)
Does anyone know how I can make the option PHONE: FAVORITES appear in the menu? Thank you.
Cheers mate. I'll look him up, I might see if he can wrap my panniers. They scratch up wayy to easy in the black.
Also, from BMW site:
"The lowered suspension with shorter spring elements results in a reduced seat height of only 840/860 millimetres. This means that even smaller riders can enjoy improved stability and have better control over their machine when manoeuvring. The centre and side stands are appropriately shorter. The lowered suspension can only be ordered with the optional equipment Dynamic ESA ."
I'll let you know about the side stand when mine arrives.
Cheers for the info'.
Thanks Lee. For my phone I use the Quad Lock system. It's very good and has several powered versions !
Get your Touratech side stand extender from Overlanders Gorey excellent addition to your bike.
Good vid - thank you, I agree about the sat nav and would love to be able to get Waze on the tft from my mobile - don't think this is possible though?
You can use the BMW connect for routes to the TFT, but I found it's a bit laggy and you will pass a turnoff before it tells you your on it. But give it a go, you may have better success with it. Connect your phone via Bluetooth to the Bike. Download the BMW Connect App on your phone.
On the App go to Rides section.
On the Bike TFT go to navigation and you should be able to send a route from your phone to your TFT.
Adventure Bike Pilot thank you, I’ll give it a go.
A real eye opener, I will not be buying the bmw navigation now. Thank you.
You are SO RIGHT about the NavVI . . . . . I got mine at half price with the bike; but for ease of use I prefer using 'Here We Go' on my phone.
Yep Nav unit crap, phone mount on mine and use the phone, easy!
I think the only thing I don’t like is that I can’t get out on it as much as I would like to
Thats a good point !!
Cheers Andy ! Thanks for the offer but I'm ok now, I have it sorted !!
Are u happy with low gs or feel u some differences then normal?
Yes, The bike is a lot more manageable now I can get a lot more of my feet down.
Adventure Bike Pilot good and in drive mode ?I mean difference with handling cornering or something?
Tnx a lot
No, It handles great. Obviously you lose some ground clearance but overall she handles amazingly, very agile and incredibly quick.
What is your inner leg size. I am 27.5 and not sure if this would suit me
I do like my Garmin (used in my car) but I too have to agree with you on the search ability. The search function on the Garmin sucks! As of now, since I made the latest update, when I search for something the GPS is shutting down. Apart from the search issue I haven't got any other bad things to say about it. I wish it was an outdoors model and not just one I can use in a car. :D
Absolutly agree. The best bike ever made!
Its a touratech Billy. The rear bolts were a nightmafe to get it but it went on !
Go for it, it's an awesome machine !
I had an 07 gsa and I got from Bmw a lowered side & centre stand r u sure you can’t get one for the newer one great video 👍
Hi Dale, Cheers ! I did look but I couldn't get a definitive answer either from BMW or anyone else I asked so the quickest and cheapest solution was to have the stand cut and re-welded and it has totally resolved the issue. Only cost €60.00
Really enjoyed the video thanks for sharing
I cannot undrstand why you bought it as you had teh preference for TT
I can’t get on with the looks of it, but I’m sure it’s a fine machine.
Easiest fix for the stand is to simply cut a short piece out and weld the footplate back, lick of paint... Bobs your uncle.
Looking forward to the pros video.
Good video, greetings from the land of humour!!!!!🇩🇪👍
just use google maps on mobile, simple as that..mobile handle for few bucks and there you go. free and updated on the go with traffic updates
Great video thanks. You are right about the image and that does put me off owning one. The upright position and height makes it look like GS owners are imperiously looking down their noses at the rest of us! I know, like all bikers, you are nice people really!
LOL, Its Like riding a throne ! :)
Not a good excuse not to buy one, you only get the grief on social media.
@@michaelwilliams3861 Agree, depriving yourself of an amazing bike just because of what others might think, just lets them decide for you !
Once you get on the continent, there is no stigma. It’s just the UK, I didn’t realise there was the same stigma in Ireland.
GS are great bikes without a doubt with used machines often showing high miles. But my goodness the price - back in the day a bike was 1/3 the price of a car now its more like 2/3. Enjoy your riding!
nice revieuw
Try out the MyRouteplanner software. IT's getting expensive but the free version still does a lot especially for TomTom users.
awesome chat
Had a Garmin and got rid, as you say far far far to complex for what's needed unless your a nerd, no offence nerds the TT rider every time sooooo easy to use!
100% ! I switched back and I am delighted, far less stress when on a route fiddling about with the Sat Nav. TomTom does exactly what I expect from it.
Yes you can do lots of things with it ,and you can down loud apps to give you more options
I must give it a whirl. I swapped out the Nav 6 and have mounted my original TomTom, and I am chuffed to have it back. Nav6 was doing my head in.
Hate that loud blast of techno music at the beginning of the vid
Thanks for the feedback. I got a lot of people saying that so I have changed the intro for later video's. It's not as bad now ! :)
Not everyone buys these bikes for Off Roading. A lot of people buy them because they make fantastic touring bikes.
Well I am quite prepared to take this bike off your hands just as soon as I I’ve had my second Covid shot at the end of next month h.
It's obvious you have little offroad experience and ..haven't done the real upgrades like Ohlin shocks, better belly pan.risers on the handlebars...getting aggressive and doing a proper BMW offroad course...drop the bike a few times and really see what it can do offroad...sad about being so short.
Thanks for your feedback Steve, I particularly like the dig at the end. Enjoy your height ! ;)
8:38 -10:58
This Ding Ding is pretty annoying, sorry
Thanks for the feedback. I appreciate it.
Christ man, those hammers are gonna do damage some day...
Dont worry, they are well secured.
Great, it can't find your Dingle! 🤣
If only the GS can talk back😂
calimoto is proving very popular.
Yes I see a lot of people using that these days !
I can’t help looking at that hammer hanging precariously and thinking that’s going to fall on someone’s head 😏
Hammers!!! I count 3 lol
Please, say Dingle one more time.
