Brahma Kamal or Brahma Kamalam plant is a flowering cactus, popularly known as Orchid Cactus and Queen of the night cactus, as it blooms during the night time only. The flowering/blooming season of the Brahma kamal plant is Spring to early Summer. The flowers only bloom during the night time emitting a strong fragrance, to attract pollinators which are bats and moths. This plant can be grown inside and outside. Bright but not direct sunshine should be present. The temperature should be between 18°C and 25°C. After planting, give the plant plenty of water and keep the soil hydrated with regular watering. Every month, you can add some fertiliser; the ideal soil should be rich. Before flowering, these plants require maintenance for around two months. Brahma Kamal's flowering time is around two to three weeks.
The Saussurea obvallata is also known by different names such as the king of Himalayan flowers, the night blooming queen, the night blooming cereus, saussurea, dulhambul, hangal, burgundautoges, kadufful, dudhaful, geeks vision, and jungle cactus.
