I love love the smell of these flowers at night and in the early a.m. I can't get enough and wait up for it everytime she flowers for me. Such an amazing plant. @kastureekalita6567 Try to grow in a small pot, give plenty of sunlight, and feed high phosphorus fertilizers. I have been waiting for a couple of years from a cutting to bloom. Good luck.

    Please let me know which part should I’m be cut off. The hard strong leaves or the medium or smaller leaves one. I think this is the time to cut off to get more flowers. Last year I had 3/4 consecutive months with 3 to 4/5 flowers. I had cut that time.

    • @LAyangfamily
      @LAyangfamily  ปีที่แล้ว

      Actually I am not sure whether pruning can encourage more blooms, so far I have never pruned my plants, but they are doing very well if I have enough room for the plant. One of my neighbors has this plant growing in the ground, really big and he never prune it, but always has a lot of blooms. My suggestion to you is give enough sunlight, proper sized pot, and feed phosphorus/potassium rich fertilizers. Good luck.
      BTW, thanks for reminding me it is the time for the plant to produce flower buds.

    I love your video I have a big EPIPYLLUM plant and it bloomed one night how often do you fertilize you never said ??? How often do you water it??? I'm in South Florida I have my plants on it back patio I love the night blooming plant I would love to see pictures of them with the flowers open. Anyway I give my plants 105010 I give it one quarter of that in a gallon container of water and I give it to them every two weeks but somebody said they could do it every week and fertilize them??

      Hi, thanks. First I just want to let you know I have one playlist on my TH-cam channel which is all about Epiphyllum, if you are interested, you can click the link down below to watch them.

      Second, I live in LA which is kind of similar USDA hardiness zone to your area. Basically, for me Epiphyllum is super easy to take care of it, last year during the blooming season I had about 70-80 flowers from one single plant, do you think it is enough? So if your plant can bloom, it is fine. if you want to get more flowers to bloom, just feed your plant one or two months before it begins to produce flower buds. High phosphorus is highly recommended to boost blooms. If not in blooming season, you do not need to feed your plant with so high phosphorus fertilizer, and also do not need so often to feed your plant. Using specific fertilizers for this plant is required for those people that they complain their plant never bloom or just can get a couple of flowers during blooming season. What my point is trying to convince you that this plant is very easy to grow, you don not need pay special attention to it.
      Another tip is root bound might benefit your plant to produce more blooms. Think of this plant is native to tropic rain forest, so warm and relatively shaded spot might be idea for it. Good luck. Any concern, just drop your question. Thanks.

      @@LAyangfamily thank you I really appreciate it. So how often do you water yours to get the extra flowers

    • @LAyangfamily
      @LAyangfamily  4 หลายเดือนก่อน +2

      @MarkinDelray culture conditions are different, hard to say. Generally, keep soil moist, it is good enough. If you remember, just water it. If forgot, just ignore it. This plant is cactus, the stem remains a lot of water, and it is kind of drought resistant, even though it is different from the desert 🏜.

      And it bloomed last year in June one time
      So my phone is acting up right now some people say don't water it for 2 weeks and that will stress the plan to bloom what are your thoughts about that I've been fertilizing them every two weeks they are growing but no flowers
      @@LAyangfamilyshould I keep on watering in every week now it's 90° every day sometimes 95 it gets full sun in the afternoon so so am I watering it too much my sister gives in water with the other plants the other ones are gardenias and tomatoes gardenias and tomatoes like water so does my big orange tree keep giving it lots of water every week should I try not watering it for 3 weeks somebody I was reading somebody said their mother died and nobody wanted their plans for a month it was loaded with flowers when the guy came there a month after his mother died Dayton water the plants because they were busy taking care of the other stuff in any case the guys mother's cactus plant is blooming like crazy they say that it blooms on neglect that's like the opposite of what we do to all the other plants maybe I overfed it maybe I should stop watering it for like 2 weeks or a month and that will stimulate the flowers and then once it's blooming then water it again what are your thoughts about that I know you're in LA so it doesn't rain that much there so how often do you water your plants before they bloom the also I heard that in the winter months when it's cool or not they say not to water it at all but it's only cool here for like 1 month for so I always watered every two weeks so what should I do now June 5th I think I'm going to cut back on the water I heard these plants are from Mexico sometimes in Mexico it doesn't rain for a month I don't know what are your thoughts about what I'm saying do they still have a plant club for these plants they had one in Southern California that I don't know if they still have it if it's still active anyway let me know what your thoughts thank you very much

      @user-yw5oo8ld1p Hi, my friend, kind of you are stressed and struggled with your plant. To be honest with you, just relax and take it easy, I can help you 😉.
      As I mentioned before, I would recommend you to watch my videos on my TH-cam channel specific playlist, and you will get your answers. Just recently, I uploaded some new videos about Epiphyllum. I get blooms just 3 months after I planted my Epiphyllum from cuttings. I think my channel is one of the best channels about Epiphyllum oxypetalum. Trust me.
      First, make sure your plant is mature enough.
      Second, watering is as needed. If you keep your soil moist, you don't have to water so often. The stem retains some water, so it is kind of drought resistant. A little bit of drought might benefit its bloom. Same as root bound. Plant is prone to bloom if it feels stressed.
      Third, this plant is native tropical rain forest in Central America and South America. Most Southern Mexico is covered with rain forest, which is different from northern Mexico.
      4th, if you have concerns about temperature and too much sun. Relocate to some spots with half shade and half sun.
      5th, if you have a bloom problem, feed your plant with relatively high phosphorus fertilizers before and during blooming season.
      6th, I do not know any plant club. Sorry about that.
      Hopefully, it will be helpful to you. Thanks.

    I have a couple large plants that bloom 3 timnea duing the summer. I live in Spain so have a long warm period. We are in June and this year there is only 2 small buds. what has happened?

    • @LAyangfamily
      @LAyangfamily  24 วันที่ผ่านมา +1

      Thanks, try these to see whether it works for your plant. Sunny spot with relatively high humidity, apply high phosphorus and potassium fertilizers. Good luck.

    • @Elenabluelady
      @Elenabluelady 24 วันที่ผ่านมา +1

      Thanks. But I was wondering if perhaps the plants decide to take a year break and not produce flowers. Will give more fertilizer and see. Same sunny spot and adequate water.

    • @LAyangfamily
      @LAyangfamily  23 วันที่ผ่านมา +1

      @Elenabluelady Most fruit trees have the characteristics of biennial bearing (alternate bearing), so you are probably right, this plant might also have the same trend. Now is the early blooming season, you might need to wait until the summer, then you will see more blooms.

    What about regular compost or epsom salt fertilizer? Full or partial sun?

    • @LAyangfamily
      @LAyangfamily  29 วันที่ผ่านมา +2

      Both are helpful, compost for complete organic stuff, epsom salt for better photosynthesis. Full sun or partial sun depends on where you live and spot you put the plant. More sunlight better for blossom.

    • @LAyangfamily

      Hi, thanks for inquiry, I am so sorry to hear your plant is not happy. Basically, I never have this issue, but a lot of factors can cause this problem. First I think some micronutrients deficiency can cause this kind of issue. Boron deficiency can cause flowers or baby fruits drop. Calcium deficiency also can cause premature flower drop. But I need more information to rule out some factors or specifically target some factors. You once mentioned your plant only bloom after you put it in the basement for a while. I do not know why you remove your plant to basement? I guess you might live in some really cold area to overwinter the plant? This plant needs some sunlight to get more blooms, if you keep it as a indoor houseplant, it might affect plant blooms. I am not sure any sunlight go through your basement or not. Anyway, if you need more help and suggestions, please give me some more specific information about your plant. Thanks, good luck.

      Thanks very much for your response. I have an unheated basement with south facing windows. I put it down there for a couple of months in winter to coax summer bloom, which worked. Last few years I haven't done this because it's heavy and I don't like going down steps. Anyway, from your post I believe it needs to be repotted and will try to find the proper soil nutrients you suggest. Lately I've been very interested in mycorhizae and a soil booster called Black Wonder. Do you think mycorrhizae would be beneficial for this plant?

    • @LAyangfamily
      @LAyangfamily  ปีที่แล้ว +2

      @@thornyflower11 Thanks, mycorrhizae can associate fugus with roots, kind of root enhancer, which encourages moisture and nutrients absorption, but itself is not fertilizer. Of course your plant can benefit from this soil, but you still need to feed some well balanced fertilizers with different types of micronutrients included. Try all these first to see any difference. Good luck.

    • @LAyangfamily
      @LAyangfamily  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I do not think this plant attracts ants, but if you occasionally see ants but not many, you can just ignore it. However, if you can see a lot of ants, you can put sticky tapes around some areas where ants move. Or you can buy ant traps or ant sticky tapes to attract and catch 🐜 .
