Unscripted crowd work like this is SO hard to master and he makes it look EASY. Matt deserves all the success he gets.
Crowd work is easy, scripted stuff to stay on point and read the audience is hard.

I love how in Matt's crowd work he knows *just* how far to push the line before becoming offensive and backs off just enough to not actually offend the person *and* keeps it funny the whole time anyways. Top notch crowd work.

First time seeing this fellow. I am so impressed by his quick, intellectual wit and though many of the audience comments could have been responded to with rude and demeaning comebacks, Matt's responses stayed classy, hilarious, and allowed the audience member a measure of thier dignity at the end of the exchange. I look forward to seeing more of this brilliant comic.

When you realize that this ENTIRE show is basically on the spot work and none of it is planned and its one of the funniest things you can find for stand up... Matt Rife revolutionized stand up comedy and I love him for it. I don't watch any other comedian other than him.

I think most of the show is spontaneous, but I highly doubt it was his first time doing that "sheet cleats" bit. Also, to call Matt Rife revolutionary is a bit hyperbolic. Matt seems to have developed and mastered his own distinct style of roasting which seems to be inspired by the crowd work pioneered by one of his mentors: Ralphie May. I feel comfortable calling Ralphie May revolutionary, but I think I'll keep Matt in the "powerfully distinct" category.

Matt’s shark tank pitch for “grippy socks” genuinely had me in tears. The one girl who said she was the funniest in the room clearly hadn’t met Ginger yet. She really stole the show. This style of comedy might not be for everyone, but it’s a gleaming example for those of us who enjoy it.
A character in the sitcom How I Met Your Mother actually has that exact idea and it's a plot point in the show how much his wife doesn't like when he wears them during sex.

There is a ton of cuts. They probably removed a lot of silence and not so good parts. It's still awesome crowed work that not many can do.

Okay, think about this, why do u hav to label some incident(suicide) as "trauma", wordifying it makes it worse, I just wanna bring light to the way u view things. Its just some incident it happened and u move on without labelling it a ton of words just so u can perceive it less painful. Think about this, someday you're feeling a bit low, then u start repeating, i'm anxious, i'm anxious, now FEEL more "anxious", the feeling would've went away regardless. I'm saying don't label any moments in ur life sad or happy, just feel it when u liv it and then to the next moment. This is why of all entertainers I respect comedians the most; even though they have their materials planned for the show, anything spontaneous could happen during the show and they just roll with it and sometimes even make a meal out of it as well.

So much of this felt uncomfortable because it was sitting on the line and could have gone so badly, yet he kept turning it around and carrying it through to the next audience member. People pay to see him in real life and some specifically want to get his attention and be part of the show. He delivers!

I saw Matt in Des Moines. I’d been watching him for a few years and told my girlfriend this guy is gonna blow up and be a huge star. I was right and he’s the absolute BEST comedian out there!! We got to meet him and he’s simply an amazing guy and so down to earth and appreciates all of us fans. I wish I could repay her and surprise her with tickets to one of his shows somewhere but I can never get any unfortunately. One day I will get to see him again as nobody can make me laugh like he does. Until then it’s TH-cam and TikTok!!

After watching Matt's special, Lucid, on Netflix, I'd have to say this one is still my favorite with Lucid being a close second (only because the subject matter of red flags can produce more chaotic interactions than talking about dreams).
Critics be saying his usual routines aren't as good as his crowd work, but frankly that's a blessing! Comedians I'm sure would kill to have the quick-witted ability to navigate these impromptu conversations like Matt can.
I'd say Matt should just do crowd work specials from now on! 🎉😊
