Just came across your channel. Great to see a young couple embracing this journey. Good luck to you both. You had discussed, in your engine room segment, about your exhaust muffler and being above the waterline. One thing to keep in mind. If you ever get towed make sure your engine cooling seacock is closed. Water can be pushed thru your Raw water pump then thru the heat exchanger and then it exits into the exhaust. If the engine isn't running the exhaust can't push the water out. The water can then drain into the engine thru an exhaust valve. There goes your engine. Not sure if you had ever been informed about this before.
The 'CHEF' designs their own workspace, Dude. Otherwise, every time the 'CHEF' needs something from the Bottom of the fridge, YOU come and get it for her. That should take care of the 'Problem'. lol. I LOVE this boat !! You guys did good !
Thanks for the “before” tour! Although there aren’t a lot of massive changes you need to make right off the bat - it looks like you truly lucked out with a GREAT boat. I’ve always loved the Europa style, and to get one in that size (ideal for a couple and a dog) is fantastic. The engine room layout and tool area is fantastic …it clearly has been cared for. So looking forward to following your journey! (BTW, Ripley was adorable sitting on the dock while Evan was doing the exterior tour 😂🐾🥰)
For the boat size and layout that engine room setup is phenomenal. Not just that it's clean, but it's layed out, hosed, and wired in a way thats easy to spot leaks, and easy to access for maintenance or upgrades.
Amazing space for a 36’ boat. Looks much much larger. Technically, you only need a bell on boats 40 feet or larger, but it’s fun to have anyway.
Top load frig's last longer and keep colder. Maybe add door to front so you have both. Add a drink fridge for smaller items and condiments!

I will be retiring soon early 60s my wife late 50s retired a year ago and I am slowly talking her into doing the loop. This is the type of boat we will need and she’s short and small and would need a front opening fridge also 🤷 looking forward to watching and learning from you guys and others and maybe some day get to do the loop. Great job 👏
I uesd to work on yachts. Far easier to put a door on the front of the top load fridge than to rip it out and install a standard fridge. The top loader loses Far less cold air than a front loader. Open the front door only for the things she can't reach from the top. Makes it easier for the charging system to run.
The space in front of the windshield, opposite the helm is tailor-made for Ripley!
I think you might want to check the cubic feet in the existing fridge vs a front loading fridge. Also maybe with the existing fridge all you would need is a little step or step stool so you can reach in and get what you need. The existing fridge is more practical for the boat and travelling as things are secure and out of the way. Also if you got a projector couldnt you just use the blind that you pulled down and showed us as the screen?
First aid kit is a must
Duct tape and electric tape. Flashlights everywhere.

Thanks for the tour. Boat looks to be in excellent shape. You kept referring to "gas tanks" -- I assume you meant diesel tanks. You did not mention the specs of the engine -- by the red color it is probably a Lehman Ford diesel? BTW I hope when you had the boat surveyed, the surveyor took a look at the fuel tanks -- if they are still the old iron tanks that came with the boat please keep an eye on them. Does the boat have air conditioning? Does it have a bow and/or stern thruster? If possible I would install bow and stern thrusters for the trip -- they can be life savers when locking, docking and waiting for bridges and locks to open. Air conditioning can be wonderful, especially in areas where no-seeums and mosquitos are bothersome.
Generally speaking, I recommend against projectors. They require almost pure darkness, like a movie theater. Want to watch a game and grill on the swim deck? Not with a projector! Want to watch fireworks locally and on a feed from DC or wherever? Think again! Is it a hot night and you want to leave the windows open? Forget about watching movies...
Of course, that's all from me checking a few years ago. Things may have changed, so check it out, but just at first reaction, 1 vote against a projector.
We love watching you learn as you go. One thing that’s very important to seasoned boaters is using right nautical terminology for what things are called and you guys are doing great learning them. Never seen a projector screen on a boat.
Just found your channel and like what I see and hear. Evan, get into the habit of specifying the exact type of fuel (diesel or gas) - your boat is diesel - do NOT make the mistake of pulling up to a fuel dock and filling up with gas. Definitely, change out all of the lights on the boat to LED and you might also want to look at fridge/freezer drawers instead of a front opening fridge. Good luck on your adventure!!!
With countertop space being so limited on a boat, consider mounting your TV (if you really want one) just above where it's sitting. If you do, be sure to use a mounting bracket for an RV/TV so your TV doesn't bang around and damage your TV/walls in rough waters - take it from experience :).
I'd go for a modern LCD TV/display. more power efficient ans can be used as large display for your laptop /nav.

Very nice! I would keep the normal TV - it's already there, has speakers, picture quality on projection isn't as good, etc.
Wow! What a great boat! That engine room setup is unbelievable! Get the fridge that the chef wants regardless of efficiency in my opinion. Especially since you are living aboard for a long time!! Convenience of front opening door is much better imo. Just one other thought about the space below front windows. Consider both the potential of blocking your view/light and also make sure whatever you put there won’t easily fall all over the place in rough seas.
Front loader fridges can open in rocky seas. Saw this on spear it animal channel. For what its worth.
I agree with her that a front loading fridge is better than a top loader. They just need to make sure they get a marine one that locks in the front when you are at sea.
Nice looking boat. Good starter cruiser and should serve you well! Change all of your lighting to LED bulbs, traditional bulbs drag a lot of amperage out of your batteries. (Previous Marine Trader SD40 owner)
I would suggest looking into drawer fridges. The door allows pooled cool air to dump out. But can get where the current fridge would be hard for you.
Mount a flip down TV on the ceiling that can be stowed up and allows you to maintain the view through the windows
I would setup a bed in the salon that would put away ez! Make the V-berth a big hanging closet.
Top loading fridge takes less energy to run as the cold air stays in when it is open. It also has the advantage of not coming open in a sea way or requiring a catch on the door like a front loading will. Perhaps a step stool or step would work better than a front load that would require bending over each time (which again can be tricky when at sea).

on the TV--youcan build or buy an Omni-directional TV antenna--should be able to get local stations wherever yo travel on the Loop-----Mikey, belfair, Wa
You could put a samsung movie projector on that shade that you closed in the video aslong as you put a wifi or extender on the boat it would be a cool affect and a nice touch.
The boat looks great. But boat work is never ending lol. But is a job that gives you pleasure. Also, no how much you do or get accomplished, you will want something more lol.
Galley up is the way to go, I can run the boat and prepare a meal at the same time when its's safe to do so.

I'm sure if you know but there are at least three other channels that have or had marine trader trawlers you might want to look at the one closest to your circumstance is naneed
School a d job they just did the loop in a 35 footer and are a great resource gor cost where to and how to do it.
Next tula's endless summer go back at least a couple of years in their videos and check out them another young couple and they had a 34 footer.
Last one called rhe adventures of Yorkie and me they seemingly have dropped off don't know why also had a 34 footer.
I'm mention these as good resources and the first and last ended up having transmission issues which as it turns out finding parts for is a challenge but the tula people found a really good resource in your area.
There are two other arguments against top-loading fridges
1. There is a risk of produce, cheese etc getting squashed and damaged if heavier items get placed on top
2. Because it is so much harder to see into there is a risk of items being overlooked and wasted
Totally understand why you didn't want a wet head
Wich ever bedroom has best ventilation is the one to use

Would recommend watching some of the engine maintenance videos from noregetslifestyle. Hard to watch some of the other videos, but think he's been doing diesels for 30 or 40 years. Mainly the Lehmans
Some solar panels would give better comfort on the hook and reduce genny run time.

Nice boat. Are you planning on adding solar panels on the Bimini top? Gonna need that for your electrical needs. Also, storing gasoline on a boat - and buying/transporting can be really hazardous. Thought about an electric engine for the dinghy? Cheers.

I don't have issues with other channels. Can you bring it up a bit please? No I hate CC and won't be using that.

Did you have any trouble getting insurance on the boat due to its age?
Do you feel not having a generator is gonna allow you to anchor out? How big is your house battery bank. Why did you choose not to have a generator? Nice looking boat. What is the HP of the engine? With a single screw will the current cause any issues in your crusing plans on the loop?

Single screw on a 36 is plenty. I personally prefer twins but only for the possibility of a break down. Many vessels way larger than have single screw and do just fine.
Where is your chart plotter?
I didn't hear you mention anything about a generator, water maker or heat and air conditioning did I kiss that in another segment.

Have you thought about adding a water maker?
I’ve heard those are a must if you are spending months at a time in the Bahamas but not as critical if you will be mainly in the US and Canada.
I would definitely recommend it, also an ice maker.

No, for me its so i dont have to go into a marina,
If you want to go that route I suppose a couple coolers full of ice would work too.
Personally I would rather not go into marinas because of the ridiculous markup on all their stuff.
Depending on how resourceful you are, the great loop can be done without many marina stops

@@patrickhynes6058 Possible, but normally, since it shows a track, I'd imagine it would be a vertical screen. But, I'v been wrong in my life before :) I'd expect a good navigation unit, with depth interfacing? Just guessing a "good to have" thing.
