Fabulous singing. Very emotive. I just learned of this fabulous contralto and wish that I'd discovered her sooner. What does that St. Andrew patch on her jacket mean? I love when the tempo changes suddenly within the same aria. Handel was a genius and Baroque is my favorite genre of opera but I also love Mozart.
Contraltos have longer vocal folds than the average woman. It's a little known fact they are essentially high tenors. They are unique in that they can vocalize like men, because they are built to sing most of their range in their chest voice, lending them a darker, heavier, rich, EARTHY sound that simply lasts. it's a voice that stays closer to the ground than most ladies do, if you will. Contraltos sound ethereal in their pure high register (falsetto). Very haunting, melancholic. Try looking up singer Lyves. I am a Contralto myself. My sister told me not to sing too high, it's just too sad. That is the Contralto voice.

She sounds almost like a tenor. But this is a castrato aria........I wish for something more ethereal.
