Gravity Die Casting is slower but produces stronger components. Design Complexity: Pressure Die Casting is better for complex designs with intricate features and thinner walls. Gravity Die Casting, although capable of high dimensional accuracy, isn't as good at handling very complex shapes.
KTM always designs something super unique and a lot of people hate on it initially but later the design grows on them and it becomes their favourite best looking motorcycle
That headlight is fire to me. Looks like a monster now instead of a weird bird. They should change all their bikes across the board with that headlight.
Yeah its bizarre!? Do you think those small projector-looking LED lights are cheaper or something? Why are all manufacturers switching to these all of a sudden?
I believe with KTM it will always be a matter of hate it or love it. I love how they risk it with disruptive design concepts, and personally love this new design.
@@goncalom1898Good point, I think after a couple of alterations they might hone in this new look into something really good. Currently I'm not a huge fan but it might grow on me. I really like the new MT09 design.
This bike looks lovely. Good upgrade from the 890. The new switch gear is probably the biggest innovation. Glad they are working on their electronics. Still waiting for the 1390 though.
166 kg dry for the 890 duke R , 184kg with fully fluide...990 is gonna be a very good bike but im kind of disappointed by the headlight design, general performances on paper, breaks.. And the price is getting crazy. Waiting for The R model?
Excellent vid. Would love to see the sister maker Husq version of these KTMs, radically wonderful design IMHO. 🎉Though the new 390 is a beast of a city/road bike, again IMHO.
I saw one in the flesh yesterday...and I must say, it looks so much better in real life. And so comfy! New buttons aswell. Cruisecontrol. Really a good looking bike! Pricing...well, the difference from my 790 Duke to this one is a 390 Adventure...or another bike. Thank you mr Bob!
I've just changed from a 690 to a 890 R, so I first thought that I should have waited, but then, I saw the headlight... Aesthetics are always the last of my preoccupations, but that's criminal... 😂
I think we have to reverse our thinking that newer is always better. These bigger capacity bikes are simply meant to cope with the strangling effects of emissions. There’s a good argument now that older gen bikes are better
High pressure die cast uses a piston to force the molten aluminum into the tool, which reduces porosity in the casting and allows for thinner walls. Gravity casting just pours the molten aluminum into a cup and lets it run into the mold. In my experience high pressure is better than gravity casting but maybe it’s application specific. Or maybe they quoted it backwards!
I think the "X spoke" kinda design on the old 790/890 wheels looks way better than this basic 5 spoke design. The 5 spoke kinda looks flimsy to me as well. I ride over speedbumps etc often and I don't want to feel like I have to baby my wheels because they're too light.
The difference between high pressure and gravity die casting is that there is less possibility of imperfections and defects occuring in high pressure casting of metal in terms of technology it's a step back to go from that to gravity casting. Basically the part might have a lot more tiny air bubbles in it which probably is verified in production process to make sure they do not arrange in a pattern making it prone to cracking but still high pressure casting makes for better quality and structurally sound part. But don't get me wrong it is most likely verified that it will serve it's purpose
Anyone jumping from the 890 duke R to the 990 duke (or later 990 duke R) would be making a mistake. With just a few cheap (ish) mods my 890's making 127bhp and lightened by 5kgs. So, PTW ratio wise you'll gain nothing major by moving to the 990. Smoke and mirrors from KTM I think, I'll stick with the 890DR and save some dosh. £12,999 plus xtra for Techpac, they're avin a giraffe.
I totally agree! Plus it’s going to be make in China by CF Moto and they’re going to charge more! Get a real twin in a Ducati Monster SP with Ohlins and Brembo brakes
Especially since you can get a lightly used 1290R for a relatively inexpensive price when it comes to stepping up to hyper nakeds… and you get that beautiful screaming v-twin that literally shakes the earth…
Fuel mileage may vary with use. That’s about what I get with my CB500F - a bit sus if you ask me. Will it run on one cylinder if you’re low on fuel? Weight is the same as new high performance Enfield 452 Himalayan.
i wonder if there will be some kind of screen or fly guard available from the factory? I love the new look, but would want some protection for the back of that tft.
I'm actually really sad to see that the 890 is gone. The 790 seemed a little small and kinda looked a bit lanky. The 890 R looked absolutely perfect and that's the bike I had my eyes on to upgrade to in the future. I don't want a 990. Why do motorbike have to get bigger and bigger and more expensive? Oh well I guess I will stay with my Duke 390 until they Bring back the 890 or maybe I will just buy a second hand 890.
