We have less of a need for two flavors of a game, and more of a need to have a stadium-/colosseum-like game centered around VGC for sure! With a way to unlock pokemon and be playable on its own for those who *just want to play competitive* That is part of a client/server that provides a stable, consistent experience for official tournaments Where you can freely edit EVs and IVs (meaning you don't get to export back to a main game to keep it copasetic but)
- Bottle caps thats reduce IV's; - ability that lowers sp atk, kind like a special intimidate; - all mons in the game; - focus on double battles; - frostbite (get rid of frozen status, is garbage); - buff bug types matchups; - better and more dynamic animations (ex, if i protect, why the animation of my pokemon getting hit is played? Make no sense lol)
agreed on everything but all the mons gonna be impossible cause since Sword and Shield onwards dex is always gonna be cut or at least behind a 90$ wall.
Honestly, I think all Unseen Fist needs is to work like Z moves and max moves did. You can hit through protect, but it still cuts your damage by half or more.
Hot take - Hitting a certain rank in the in-game ladder needs a huge buff. 1. More unique ribbons for top 100, top 50, top 10, etc 2. Small amount of CP awarded, like 10 CP per season if you place high enough.
They should make the + button (which currently shows the opponent's team) pull up their team sheet (like the rental team page, minus the rental code obviously) so we can access the open team sheet natively in-game

We need an official simulator updated alongside the main games. We've been asking for it for many years. The first upside I can see (after the ease of teambuilding) is they don't have to restrict their main games to being designed with VGC in mind. They could make more Legends type of games or any other ideas they may have without worrying about it infringing on the competitive scene. It also allows Game Freak or whoever is managing it to do balance changes whenever they want as opposed to the current timeline of only making changes when a new game releases (often only when a new generation releases). Some detractors over the years have said things like "Why not just use Showdown?" Well my friends, you cannot use Showdown in official competitions.
@@jacobreeder8101there’s only recently 1 instance of a stat swap (and a tiny bitty one at that) and it’s Kleavor swapping its Atk and Sp. Def by 5 points, and it’s less because it needed it and more about taking the Sharpness damage output into account. Everything else is either buffs or nerfs.
I also agree with you about wallet warriors. For IC'S i think people from that region should have priority in registration. So EUIC for instance should open up for European players a week before the rest of the world, and if their are slots left open then it opens up to the other regions.
@@GeekEntertainmentConsumer I think it is a fair assessment. 2026 is going to be the 30 year anniversary when pokemon Red and Blue released in Japan. Considering that Pokemon Legends Z-A will be coming out next year and the switch's predecessor will probably come out within a year or two. Everything kinda lines up with the fact that Gen 10 will be a 2026 release date being the first mainline pokemon game on switch's predecessor.
But what if they decide to play 2026 on legends Z-A? I get that gen 10 is in late 2026, but then you have to figure out what to do in vgc for 2026. It makes sense that they would just have an inbetween year
Honestly a complete rework of EV's is needed. Something like a skill tree or easy to invest/reinvest stat system would make it so much easier to both EV train in the games and to also introduce casual players to EV's and show the impact that they can have.
To add to this, on the alternate stat page where EVs are (barely) shown, they should show how many EVs are put into each stat at all times. This makes it easier to count and test EVs in game
GF should introduce a Showdown-like mode to the games. Other monster catching RPGs like Temtem and Coromon do this, and it's a great feature, and a big barrier is the grinding required to not only do, but know how to do. It would also address the concerns GF has with hacked mons.
Mass editing, and I do mean a cool like all in one idea. Okay so follow my logic here, Bottle Caps and Nature Mints and stuff are cool and you can also use items like an Ability Patch to get a Hidden Ability, plus you can easily swap your normal Abilities, so they kind of covered most things, but what if they let you more or less hex edit, just on a lesser scale. Like hacking Pokémon is just flipping the hex date to edit the code that makes up a Pokemon, so what if your in game money and some type of other points could just edit a Pokémon. Like lets say a lab in the post game just lets you edit the IV's the EV's the Nature the Ability the moves. Like you just edit the DNA more or less and you get a battle ready set in seconds, if this was post game only it's not like it breaks the game. You could even leave in the other items as a small buffer for the story or for smaller edits, but we need a lab for mass editing. Like people hack Pokémon so you might as well just let people in effect fully reroll parts of a Pokémon to better fit the needs of the player. If backing hacking can flip a few bits in a binary code lime the game might as well let the player do so freely. This removes the time needed to team build, as mass editing could easily get a full team in minutes.
As a spectator I think it would be interesting to see the explanation of competitive mechanics explained in-game through the story mode; eg. a gym focusing on various forms of speed control, using Tailwind, priority moves, Thunder Wave, and just generally fast pokemon (sorry I don't know much about VGC, I don't really know if what I say makes any sense)
Not only do they need to add back spectator mode but they have to make it better.. more interesting camera angles, and better communication of what mons are on the field

For me, finding mons with specific IVs (other than 0 or 31) adds to the overall all experience. Gameplay wise, it would be so cool to have an option for double battles like VGC. U go to a Gym Leader or Elite Four w/6 mons and only select 4. The AI can pick any combination of their 6 mons and makes the game feel different for everyone
I've had that same gym/elite 4 idea before and I think it'd be great. Also full heal your team between battles. Really mimic the actual competitive VGC format in gyms and then the entire rest of the game can be more "traditional" single player pokemon game.
I think people need to know that there will never be an official version of Pokemon Showdown by GF. Gamefreak likes Showdown, they're aware of it, it doesn't overstep it's boundaries to cause legal issues, and it's a VERY good resource for people getting into VGC So basically, Gamefreak gets free players via Showdown and Nintendo and Gamefreak don't have to spend a single yen.
i think they should in gen 10 do what they did in gen 4, look through every pokemon and give every single underwhelming pokemon an evolution or some kind of a buff
Final evolutions should fall within a baseline range of stats imo or have a very potent ability to make up for it. Adding a 4th or mega just doesn't solve the issue with the hundreds of bad final evolutions in the game
@@GordKeen i didnt think of it like that, sure it would be pointless to give houndreds of pokemon evolutions, but i was thinking that they should overhaul all of the pokemon like give some pokemon evolutions that need them, give some pokemon great signature moves, some pokemon extra stats, some new abilities and buff every pokemon that needs a buff that way and not give pokemon that already have 3 stages a new evolution
@lovroivanicek7556 yeah I agree with your premise, I'm mostly just adding the final evolutions across the board should fall within a 75-100 point range of stats and if they are less to be further compensated such as solar power etc. The megas was a way to fix some bad or not used pokemon, but really it just showed that many pokemon needed like 10 or 20 more points in speed and 10 points in attack to actually be used at all such as Gallade.
Yea. I love Empoleon and have been saying for years it could at least be useable if given Competitive over Defiant. And this gen it finally happened! And it's actually useable! Stat changes would be the best way to buff old mons but ability changes or move additions help too

Hyper Training should allow you to just set your IVs to whatever you want, not just max it out. Then you could actually zero out. TMs need to go back to unlimited use. It is so annoying to be almost done building a team and then realize "oh i need to go hunt and destroy 10 croagunks so i can get the final TM i need" Once a mon has been a tera type, it should be able to switch back to that tera type at no cost (this will likely not be a thing in Gen 10 but it's just another instance of pointless grinding that is a barrier to competitive team testing trial and error)
I think to make VGC better is just to make it more accessible. You could add stuff to buff old mons or balance the game but the simply answer is to make it more accessible

I’d love to play VGC if it didn’t require a second full-time job preparing a team with the abilities,moves,natures, IVs/EVs, tera I need to play. If that was easier and not time-consuming I’d play all the time! I just watch on TH-cam for now.
Great points to cover, I do wish others have discussed this topics more. I believe that spectator mode should be prioritized, as it would enhance the tournament experience by providing access to a significantly larger number of matches to view. Additionally, recording the events of each turn in the Pokémon game itself would be valuable. On the topic of nerfing pokemon it would be great to take this approach once they see a pokemon is seen on EVERY format (Urshifu), Aegislash/Gengar/Sylveon/Zacian/Zamacenta have gotten nerfed already. (nerf caly shadow and ice while you're at it)
We will never see Pokémon change their games to make them more VGC focused. We may get little wins here and there but at the end of the day they are interested in selling as many copies as possible and that means making it geared towards children first and foremost
That was a great point about the limited number of doubles battles in the current gen. At this point I’d be incredibly happy if they brought back a real battle tower/tree in the gen 10 postgame. I spent countless hours theory building with my favorite mons in the SW/SH endless battle system and I loved the low stakes environment where my only option wasn’t to immediately have to take my fun sets to online play to use them. Genuinely hoping an endless doubles battle system makes a return.
Things I'd like to have for Gen 10 - move egg moves to TMs already, mirror herb & picnic is just like using a TM with extra steps, and it's tedious - bring SwSh unlimited use TMs back, I don't want to grind pve for pvp items - Global Mechanic Related Items (like Tera Shards in SwSh) have to be earnable through LPs/currency earned on online ladder, time spent on farming shards (especially pre the Item Printer) could've been used on getting more xp on the ladder. Honestly for a win on ladder in SV you should be getting 5x5 random tera shards, and 10 bonus shards for knocking out a tera'd opponent, those 10 would be of the type corresponding with the tera'd mon - stop locking useful items behind dlc (fresh start mochi etc), and make them available for purchase via LPs, I don't want to be grinding - IV reducing Bottle Caps - separate, BO3/OTS ingame ladder (in addition to the Casual & BO1 ranked modes)
The aside from Spectator Mode and all the great other things that you mentioned. I want the game to SAVE-STATE after every turn in an online or local battle. So that if a """RARE""" disconnect happens (at THE giant tournament of Worlds), players will be able to revert the game state back to the same/previous turn before the disconnect. This is very possible to do especially since Pokemon used to have a Replay System with the VS-Seeker, and players would no longer have to be a the mercy of strange disconnect-rules/games.
They should make a stadium like game again. They should make a new one with each new console and otherwise update it for each new gen. It should host VGC, battle spot, GTS, breeding, an extensive Battle Frontier, and it should have some way to get all legends, something like raids maybe. It would be one of the best selling Nintendo titles ever.
We have needed an official version of Pokemon showdown forever now. No grinding or story required at all. Just build your mons exactly how you like and play.
I feel like the Pokemon world would be a better place if bottle caps just allowed you to select the value you want for IVs. And the one thing I've always wanted is everything you need to get a Pokemon ready for VGC all being in one location. It is a little inconvenient to be in Montenevera and have all the vitamins and mints but if I need bottle caps to hyper train with the abomasnow guy you have to go to a shop somewhere else.
I think 2026 is the last season of VGC for Scarlet and Violet. Remember the Pokemon Company already said that they will take more time in developing the next game
Man you make some great points. I don’t know I think S/V with another DLC adding more would be better than a gen 10 already. I’d at least say one more year of it isn’t the worst thing. If they do buffs and debuffs tho like you said. Also I really wanna get in to vgc and I’m just trying to watch games too a spectator mode would be great.
I think they should make generation 10 completely double battles with single battles appearing as often as double battles do now. Additionally gym trainers/leaders and your rivals should be like a typical vgc match. Best of 1, bring 6 pick 4 and the ai would analyze your team and bring the best 4 available to try to beat you. Additionally I’d like to see more diverse types of pokemon appearing much earlier in the game so that team composition through the story can vary greatly from player to player which was one of the only positive things about ScarVio. Edit: I would also like them to add a feature to the battle teams in the pc that would allow you to edit the stats abilities and nature of the pokemon in the battle team and give them whatever moves and items you want. Taking them out of the battle team would revert them to their original stats
I got a list of it: • Battle capsule: Change ability in battle. •Make powerswap/skill swap stay on the pokemon. I would love to see 0 iv atk and sp attack making the mon useless. •I like dynamic speed, but man tailwind a nerf. That way the old tailwind setter can return. •Spectator mode. • Be creative with Online competition. I would like to use mid evolurion and baby mons.
Beyond spectator mode, they need to speed up the whole game for spectators. Leftovers recovery, grassy terrain, intimidate drops, chip damage from sand/status, and each generational mechanic having a 20ish second animation makes so much of the time between moves seem tedious. Also it makes watching even one best of 3 a potentially lengthy time investment for casuals
Pokemon yellow was the first game I ever owned and I only played it single player or maybe trading a pokemon with a friend until gen 3 which is probably still my favorite. After that, i fell off the series. I would eventually play platinum and black once but didn't touch the series for a long time. In sword and shield I saw some VGC videos from wolfe and it actually seemed super interesting so I started checking it out. At that point it was pretty far into the game but scarlet and violet were already on the horizon so I figured ok, I'm gonna play vgc doubles online and try to get really good at it in gen 9. Once the game came out, I played through, completed the pokedex and then started working on my first ever competitive team. As I assume many players start with, I came up with some side target cheese that interested (talonflame with ember to hit ice tera avalanche weakness policy baxcalibur), put my new favorite pokemon meowscarada on there and theory crafted on some other pokemon including dragonite because multiscale dragonite hard carried me through one of the really difficult emerald rogue challenges. Eventually I also added gholdengo. Team theory crafted, time to actually get the pokemon with the correct stats. Ugh, what a huge pain in the ass. Tera shards took so long and were so boring to farm and even EVs were a big pain because I wasn't sitting on a mountain of cash so I ended up having to do most of the training manually. Also needed some ability capsules. This sucked complete ass. I imagine players used to VGC just sort of forgot but it is genuinely miserable for several hours to make a team and I'm talking a team with native non legendary pokemon. It just sucks ass. The real issue is yet to come though. Anyway, I do eventually get the team setup and start playing and it's great. I'm having so much and moving up the ranks reaching masterball pretty quickly. Some moveset tweaks and switching items around and I eventually reach under rank 200 in masterball. I was beginning to feel the limits of my team though and figured I needed a more versatile team going forward. Now I have to grind up an entire new team. None of the tera shards I grinded or any of the EV or IV altering stuff I did was in any way transferable. i had to start from complete scratch. This destroyed my motivation but I finally got the team together and...it wasn't a very good team (I mean, how good could a team with hippowdon be?). The thought that after all that grinding to make this team and it was for nothing and I was just gonna have to do it again on a new team that might also be bad. That was it, I was done. I had tons of ideas to try out for teams but the idea of actually getting them in game was a nightmare so I quit. Now, obviously I could just try out every team on showdown first or just play entirely on showdown but I really like having the actual game with animations and it just being official. You shouldn't need a 3rd party game in order to enjoy competitive pokemon. My suggestions, let pokemon accrue EVs to 252 in every stat but only 510 are "active" at any time and let us use some sort of training option to freely distribute which ones are active. We still have to grind the EVs but now if I grind a pokemon to 252 in every stat I never need to catch and train another one ever again or go through the vitamins process again. If theres something like tera shards in the next game, make them unlock a machine to change the thing permanently. Like imagine in scarlet if you got 50 dragon tera shards you take it to a professor in the school and they complete their research on the dragon tera machine and now using that you can change any pokemon's tera type to dragon freely. Have that for every type and suddenly it's not so bad and yet I still have incentive to engage with the PvE elements the devs want me to play for at least a little while. Oh, have moves work the same way where pokemon can "remember" any move they have access to and if you have the TM for a move they can learn, thats included in the "remember" pool (and you can still teach it through the TM like normal as well) and they go back to being non consumable. And as mentioned above, never force me to play another game in order to get pokemon for this game. It's maybe slightly more tolerable if trading isn't such a risk because of the hack check, but still, I'd rather just be able to catch everything in my one game. For balance, I probably shouldn't be given a say considering how long I've been playing, but the most egregious standouts to me that made me want to play less were speed control. I think nerfing tailwind to 50% speed boost (matching choice scarf or if thats too many speed ties, maybe 60% or speed bboost) and lowering trick room to 4 turns would have made my experience a lot better. It really sucks to play a hard trick room team and you fail to prevent trick room and just lose on the spot turn 1 effectively.
-A Pokemon Stadium game that you can transfer all Pokemon would be nice with content such as teaching about IVs and EVs, a whole PWT where you can battle past gym leaders and elite four members and champions, and spectator mode -Bottle Caps for minimum IVs is desperately needed, but I don’t agree that there should be items that are IV equivalent of feathers -Yes to buffing old Pokemon, I have seen a few videos of how to make past legendaries more strong -Have Drowsy replace Sleep (but I think it would be nice if trying to inflict drowsy on an already drowsy Pokemon has a chance (30% or lower) for the drowsy Pokemon to fall asleep) -Replace Frozen with Frostbite and add a frostbite equivalent to burn -Buff bug type
On the other hand of the accessability point, there are pokemon that are available for everyone to catch in SV that will most likely not be usable for everyone. (I am specifically talking about Meloetta in SV.) Mythical pokemon have never been legal in tournament play. Mythical pokemon are becoming more accessible in pokemon games. I think if we have had a formats where Calyrex is legal, than let me play in a format where Shaymin is legal (I am also biased because Shaymin is my favorite pokemon, and I have been waiting to use it in a competitive vgc format).
I would love more representation of VGC in the MENA region (Middle East and North Africa). I know Arabs in general are not huge into VGC but we're pretty into Esports so a few regionals could be enough to generate hype around here. With the way things currently stand it is near impossible to get into Worlds here unless more online tourneys open up or paying thousands of dollars to go to a few regionals. Even Limitless the website has very few country flags from MENA, so I can't even stan and represent my country in non-official online tournaments it honestly sucks how I can't really participate in many pokemon events just cuz of my country.

I want more customization in battle settings. I want to be able to restrict certain pokemon or even run themed events and I need to police people its so annoying. If I could just change the setting to be something like set all mons to level 10, or mono type only etc
make a vgc dlc with beautiful stadiums and upgraded moves and attacks animations and make customization of pokemon much easier with little games idk in there
I always forget that people don't know about EVS/IVS since ive known about them since gen 3. Its crazy that the games never specifically tell you how they work.
I personally think that reg c should have been worlds, then add broken home stuff+dlc next year, then add 1 restricted, then 2 restricted It would give them more time between games to let them cook
Honestly the only thing that keeps me from playing VGC is that i cant have all 6 of my Pokemon. To me a person who is from the outside looking in, it defeats the purpose of building a good team doing all that work that goes into it and only being able to use only 4 at a time just sucks the feeling of accomplishment of building a team
you had me agreeing with everything up until the exact moment you said megas should come back. i seem to be the only person who can take off the notalgia goggles and remember how utterly miserable megas were for VGC. have them in side games and single player but NEVER in VGC capable games
In a franchise where you are supposed to get invested in your mons the rigidity of IVs and the tedium of changing IVs needs to be removed. I would absolutely love it if after you beat there was a way to get sliders for EVs/IVs for your mons. So as an example I can use a sweeper Arcanine in one tournament and then later I can use that same Arcanine as a tanky slow support for a trick room team. The current way unless its just easier to re breed which feel bad
i totaly agree with the spectetor mode , but i think u need even more u need a way to be able to have all games of a tournament available in a server or for domnload , imagine how huge will be if u can upload to youtube a whole tournament game by game , content creators will have a blast , vgc players will be able to finally be know from the audience and people will be able to apreciate insane plays even if they wasnt in top 16 they audience will be able to find new players they like and actually follow them and be able to see if ur favorite player lost to lack or skill , and 3rd imagine how easier will be for a random person to learn and play vgc has if they have footage to see and study and learn , and yes i start vgc this year and after wolrds i was so disapointed i was w8ing so long to see new fun teams my fav players and most of all the first 5 greeks ever go to worlds and saw none of that i didnt saw how all greeks went 4-4 with difrent teams never saw how wolfie lost or the groudon team i was so exited about and the stream was abismal 9 hour streams for 8 games ? all together was 3,5 hours and the rest was the casters trying to save this ever ending void and they all was good casters but they cant be good if there is nothing to cast. It could increase the scene by a whole lot which in turn would drive up game sales, also the free aspect meaning that it wouldn’t require switch online But yea you’re right i didn’t even think about it from Nintendo’s side although it would be a blessing to us consumers.

I couldn't disagree more about the accessibility take, it only makes sense to include prior games, it rewards players for buying and playing the games, and the more copies that are sold the better for the franchise
Not everyone can afford to buy both copies of the game, and I think it's ridiculous that new player has to play 6 different games to just to be on a level playing field

The price of entering 1 regional is the same as buying 2 games, not counting flights, hotels, food, cabs etc... it's a manufactured excuse. @@RagingAbout for me and you it might seem like nothing, I personally own ever game and I 100% the dex, but there's a bunch of juniors/seniors that rely on there parents, there are other who financially struggle and can't justify buying both copies of a game. Obviously a lot of the top competitors do what they can go get to all events, but you have to keep in mind how many people love VGC that can't afford or travel. I just think adding mons like urshi/torn in reg D was very bad, and it can affect how people might perform if they can't afford a game where you can catch shifu

Personally what I really want from gen 10, is that the resource tied to the generational gimmick is not a fucking choir to farm. In SV you need 50 tera shards of a type to change it and outside of event raids you get like 4-5 top per high level raid? It was so tedious to farm the shards at the beginning, and if it werent for the blissey and 7 star event raids, my stockpile if shards would be rather poor. I do not want that repeated in the next gen.
U need to complete kitakami dex and the science professor gives you the amulet which increases a lot the amount of Thera shards in raids. If you beat three 5 stars raid you get more than 50 shards

On the CP earning thing: You do know that previously it was 6, and now it's even 5 tournaments, that count? Like, you could attend 25 tournaments, but only 5 of them count for your CP afaik? Plus, they apparently nerfed ICs and buffed regionals? Though I could see an argument to limit the amount fo torunaments OUTSIDE YOUR HOME REGION for everyone. Like, you are allowed to attend each tournament in your home region, but only 3 in other regions. I could totally see players from "stronger" regions attending tournaments in "weaker" regions in hopes of getting a better shot at earning big points... Okay, I have exactly ONE thing but this one single-handedly might make VGC about 10x more popular: Custom Team Builder. By that I mean the ability to go to some post-game NPC, put together the team of your dreams - mons, gender, abilities, items, IVs, EVs, moves, whatever the current gimmick is, of course all within the rules of what's legal in the respective format - and have that team for online and maybe some post-game thing if the battle frontier or somethingsimilar is a thing again. Like literally a... build-a-team thing, without the need of owning previous versions, days and weeks of breeding, resetting 200x for the right stats on your legendary/mythical mon etc, but available to EVERYONE. That'd eliminate a huge advantage some players already have by virtue of being able to use PkHex and stuff, and eliminate ahuge entry barrier for everyone without that advantage.
Unfortunately the problem here is you aren't talking to a sympathetic peer when addressing these issues. You'd be talking to someone with The Pokemon Company with a degree in marketing whose primary objective is to squeeze every last cent out of every single consumer possible. From our perspective it makes no sense to not include these small things but from a business stand point why would they implement these things if any of it was going to lose them even a little bit of potential money?

Vgc will never be great until the devs start taking it seriously and treating it like an actual game and not a chore. The biggest issue with competitive pokemon is that I can’t just get on the game and start playing, I have to spend hours and hours building a team first. Theres so many other games that you can just turn on and play immediately whenever you get free time and Pokemon is far from that. With gen 10 and every new gen forward there needs to be a built in battle simulator where you can build teams and battle on the fly. Another issue is balance. This is the only competitive game that doesn’t get balance changes, why is gamefreak afraid to update the game mid gen?
Rusty bottle cap an easier way to get EV reduction items. Cheaper vitamins more so the machines in the Isle of Armor Dojo or someone like the Clear Lady from Sw/Sh again. Ogre Oustin SUCKS in comparison so I just farmed hundreds of berries from auction house resets Spectator mode and more transparency IN game for the hidden stats Ivs EVs explanations and menus showing HOW many EVs you have used out of the maximum roughly 500 given.

We need an official simulator updated alongside the main games. We've been asking for it for many years.
The first upside I can see (after the ease of teambuilding) is they don't have to restrict their main games to being designed with VGC in mind. They could make more Legends type of games or any other ideas they may have without worrying about it infringing on the competitive scene.
It also allows Game Freak or whoever is managing it to do balance changes whenever they want as opposed to the current timeline of only making changes when a new game releases (often only when a new generation releases).
Some detractors over the years have said things like "Why not just use Showdown?" Well my friends, you cannot use Showdown in official competitions.

For IC'S i think people from that region should have priority in registration. So EUIC for instance should open up for European players a week before the rest of the world, and if their are slots left open then it opens up to the other regions.

Considering that Pokemon Legends Z-A will be coming out next year and the switch's predecessor will probably come out within a year or two. Everything kinda lines up with the fact that Gen 10 will be a 2026 release date being the first mainline pokemon game on switch's predecessor.

Honestly a complete rework of EV's is needed. Something like a skill tree or easy to invest/reinvest stat system would make it so much easier to both EV train in the games and to also introduce casual players to EV's and show the impact that they can have.
To add to this, on the alternate stat page where EVs are (barely) shown, they should show how many EVs are put into each stat at all times. This makes it easier to count and test EVs in game
GF should introduce a Showdown-like mode to the games. Other monster catching RPGs like Temtem and Coromon do this, and it's a great feature, and a big barrier is the grinding required to not only do, but know how to do. It would also address the concerns GF has with hacked mons.
Mass editing, and I do mean a cool like all in one idea. Okay so follow my logic here, Bottle Caps and Nature Mints and stuff are cool and you can also use items like an Ability Patch to get a Hidden Ability, plus you can easily swap your normal Abilities, so they kind of covered most things, but what if they let you more or less hex edit, just on a lesser scale. Like hacking Pokémon is just flipping the hex date to edit the code that makes up a Pokemon, so what if your in game money and some type of other points could just edit a Pokémon. Like lets say a lab in the post game just lets you edit the IV's the EV's the Nature the Ability the moves. Like you just edit the DNA more or less and you get a battle ready set in seconds, if this was post game only it's not like it breaks the game. You could even leave in the other items as a small buffer for the story or for smaller edits, but we need a lab for mass editing. Like people hack Pokémon so you might as well just let people in effect fully reroll parts of a Pokémon to better fit the needs of the player. If backing hacking can flip a few bits in a binary code lime the game might as well let the player do so freely. This removes the time needed to team build, as mass editing could easily get a full team in minutes.
As a spectator I think it would be interesting to see the explanation of competitive mechanics explained in-game through the story mode; eg. a gym focusing on various forms of speed control, using Tailwind, priority moves, Thunder Wave, and just generally fast pokemon (sorry I don't know much about VGC, I don't really know if what I say makes any sense)

I don’t like the idea of items lowering IVs by a single point. For me, finding mons with specific IVs (other than 0 or 31) adds to the overall all experience.
Gameplay wise, it would be so cool to have an option for double battles like VGC. U go to a Gym Leader or Elite Four w/6 mons and only select 4. The AI can pick any combination of their 6 mons and makes the game feel different for everyone
I've had that same gym/elite 4 idea before and I think it'd be great. Also full heal your team between battles. Really mimic the actual competitive VGC format in gyms and then the entire rest of the game can be more "traditional" single player pokemon game.
I think people need to know that there will never be an official version of Pokemon Showdown by GF.
Gamefreak likes Showdown, they're aware of it, it doesn't overstep it's boundaries to cause legal issues, and it's a VERY good resource for people getting into VGC
So basically, Gamefreak gets free players via Showdown and Nintendo and Gamefreak don't have to spend a single yen.

Final evolutions should fall within a baseline range of stats imo or have a very potent ability to make up for it. Adding a 4th or mega just doesn't solve the issue with the hundreds of bad final evolutions in the game

@lovroivanicek7556 yeah I agree with your premise, I'm mostly just adding the final evolutions across the board should fall within a 75-100 point range of stats and if they are less to be further compensated such as solar power etc. The megas was a way to fix some bad or not used pokemon, but really it just showed that many pokemon needed like 10 or 20 more points in speed and 10 points in attack to actually be used at all such as Gallade.
Yea. I love Empoleon and have been saying for years it could at least be useable if given Competitive over Defiant. And this gen it finally happened! And it's actually useable! Stat changes would be the best way to buff old mons but ability changes or move additions help too

Hyper Training should allow you to just set your IVs to whatever you want, not just max it out. Then you could actually zero out.
TMs need to go back to unlimited use. It is so annoying to be almost done building a team and then realize "oh i need to go hunt and destroy 10 croagunks so i can get the final TM i need"
Once a mon has been a tera type, it should be able to switch back to that tera type at no cost (this will likely not be a thing in Gen 10 but it's just another instance of pointless grinding that is a barrier to competitive team testing trial and error)
with that last point it likely won't happen since gen 10 is gonna have a new gimmick in battles since we've now had 4 different gimmicks
I think to make VGC better is just to make it more accessible. You could add stuff to buff old mons or balance the game but the simply answer is to make it more accessible

Use rental teams or discord sysbots. Nobody cares if your team is hacked, rented or your own, the competitive matches are the fun part.
Poke Coloseum was the biggest most underated jump they did towards doubles. Should have kept it moving forwards way earlier imo.

I believe that spectator mode should be prioritized, as it would enhance the tournament experience by providing access to a significantly larger number of matches to view. Additionally, recording the events of each turn in the Pokémon game itself would be valuable.
On the topic of nerfing pokemon it would be great to take this approach once they see a pokemon is seen on EVERY format (Urshifu), Aegislash/Gengar/Sylveon/Zacian/Zamacenta have gotten nerfed already. (nerf caly shadow and ice while you're at it)
We will never see Pokémon change their games to make them more VGC focused. We may get little wins here and there but at the end of the day they are interested in selling as many copies as possible and that means making it geared towards children first and foremost
That was a great point about the limited number of doubles battles in the current gen. At this point I’d be incredibly happy if they brought back a real battle tower/tree in the gen 10 postgame. I spent countless hours theory building with my favorite mons in the SW/SH endless battle system and I loved the low stakes environment where my only option wasn’t to immediately have to take my fun sets to online play to use them. Genuinely hoping an endless doubles battle system makes a return.
Things I'd like to have for Gen 10
- move egg moves to TMs already, mirror herb & picnic is just like using a TM with extra steps, and it's tedious
- bring SwSh unlimited use TMs back, I don't want to grind pve for pvp items
- Global Mechanic Related Items (like Tera Shards in SwSh) have to be earnable through LPs/currency earned on online ladder, time spent on farming shards (especially pre the Item Printer) could've been used on getting more xp on the ladder. Honestly for a win on ladder in SV you should be getting 5x5 random tera shards, and 10 bonus shards for knocking out a tera'd opponent, those 10 would be of the type corresponding with the tera'd mon
- stop locking useful items behind dlc (fresh start mochi etc), and make them available for purchase via LPs, I don't want to be grinding
- IV reducing Bottle Caps
- separate, BO3/OTS ingame ladder (in addition to the Casual & BO1 ranked modes)
Legends Z-A taking over VGC with a far reduced Pokemon list would create some cool formats for a year or two.
The aside from Spectator Mode and all the great other things that you mentioned.
I want the game to SAVE-STATE after every turn in an online or local battle. So that if a """RARE""" disconnect happens (at THE giant tournament of Worlds), players will be able to revert the game state back to the same/previous turn before the disconnect.
This is very possible to do especially since Pokemon used to have a Replay System with the VS-Seeker, and players would no longer have to be a the mercy of strange disconnect-rules/games.
They should make a stadium like game again. They should make a new one with each new console and otherwise update it for each new gen. It should host VGC, battle spot, GTS, breeding, an extensive Battle Frontier, and it should have some way to get all legends, something like raids maybe. It would be one of the best selling Nintendo titles ever.

We have needed an official version of Pokemon showdown forever now. No grinding or story required at all. Just build your mons exactly how you like and play.
I feel like the Pokemon world would be a better place if bottle caps just allowed you to select the value you want for IVs.
And the one thing I've always wanted is everything you need to get a Pokemon ready for VGC all being in one location. It is a little inconvenient to be in Montenevera and have all the vitamins and mints but if I need bottle caps to hyper train with the abomasnow guy you have to go to a shop somewhere else.
I think 2026 is the last season of VGC for Scarlet and Violet. Remember the Pokemon Company already said that they will take more time in developing the next game
Man you make some great points. I don’t know I think S/V with another DLC adding more would be better than a gen 10 already. I’d at least say one more year of it isn’t the worst thing. If they do buffs and debuffs tho like you said. Also I really wanna get in to vgc and I’m just trying to watch games too a spectator mode would be great.
I think they should make generation 10 completely double battles with single battles appearing as often as double battles do now. Additionally gym trainers/leaders and your rivals should be like a typical vgc match. Best of 1, bring 6 pick 4 and the ai would analyze your team and bring the best 4 available to try to beat you. Additionally I’d like to see more diverse types of pokemon appearing much earlier in the game so that team composition through the story can vary greatly from player to player which was one of the only positive things about ScarVio.
Edit: I would also like them to add a feature to the battle teams in the pc that would allow you to edit the stats abilities and nature of the pokemon in the battle team and give them whatever moves and items you want. Taking them out of the battle team would revert them to their original stats

How to destroy competitive
Beyond spectator mode, they need to speed up the whole game for spectators. Leftovers recovery, grassy terrain, intimidate drops, chip damage from sand/status, and each generational mechanic having a 20ish second animation makes so much of the time between moves seem tedious. Also it makes watching even one best of 3 a potentially lengthy time investment for casuals

Megas and Tera sounds like a fun format
Pokemon yellow was the first game I ever owned and I only played it single player or maybe trading a pokemon with a friend until gen 3 which is probably still my favorite. After that, i fell off the series. I would eventually play platinum and black once but didn't touch the series for a long time. In sword and shield I saw some VGC videos from wolfe and it actually seemed super interesting so I started checking it out. At that point it was pretty far into the game but scarlet and violet were already on the horizon so I figured ok, I'm gonna play vgc doubles online and try to get really good at it in gen 9.
Once the game came out, I played through, completed the pokedex and then started working on my first ever competitive team. As I assume many players start with, I came up with some side target cheese that interested (talonflame with ember to hit ice tera avalanche weakness policy baxcalibur), put my new favorite pokemon meowscarada on there and theory crafted on some other pokemon including dragonite because multiscale dragonite hard carried me through one of the really difficult emerald rogue challenges. Eventually I also added gholdengo.
Team theory crafted, time to actually get the pokemon with the correct stats. Ugh, what a huge pain in the ass. Tera shards took so long and were so boring to farm and even EVs were a big pain because I wasn't sitting on a mountain of cash so I ended up having to do most of the training manually. Also needed some ability capsules. This sucked complete ass. I imagine players used to VGC just sort of forgot but it is genuinely miserable for several hours to make a team and I'm talking a team with native non legendary pokemon. It just sucks ass. The real issue is yet to come though.
Anyway, I do eventually get the team setup and start playing and it's great. I'm having so much and moving up the ranks reaching masterball pretty quickly. Some moveset tweaks and switching items around and I eventually reach under rank 200 in masterball. I was beginning to feel the limits of my team though and figured I needed a more versatile team going forward.
Now I have to grind up an entire new team. None of the tera shards I grinded or any of the EV or IV altering stuff I did was in any way transferable. i had to start from complete scratch. This destroyed my motivation but I finally got the team together and...it wasn't a very good team (I mean, how good could a team with hippowdon be?). The thought that after all that grinding to make this team and it was for nothing and I was just gonna have to do it again on a new team that might also be bad. That was it, I was done.
I had tons of ideas to try out for teams but the idea of actually getting them in game was a nightmare so I quit. Now, obviously I could just try out every team on showdown first or just play entirely on showdown but I really like having the actual game with animations and it just being official. You shouldn't need a 3rd party game in order to enjoy competitive pokemon.
My suggestions, let pokemon accrue EVs to 252 in every stat but only 510 are "active" at any time and let us use some sort of training option to freely distribute which ones are active. We still have to grind the EVs but now if I grind a pokemon to 252 in every stat I never need to catch and train another one ever again or go through the vitamins process again.
If theres something like tera shards in the next game, make them unlock a machine to change the thing permanently. Like imagine in scarlet if you got 50 dragon tera shards you take it to a professor in the school and they complete their research on the dragon tera machine and now using that you can change any pokemon's tera type to dragon freely. Have that for every type and suddenly it's not so bad and yet I still have incentive to engage with the PvE elements the devs want me to play for at least a little while.
Oh, have moves work the same way where pokemon can "remember" any move they have access to and if you have the TM for a move they can learn, thats included in the "remember" pool (and you can still teach it through the TM like normal as well) and they go back to being non consumable.
And as mentioned above, never force me to play another game in order to get pokemon for this game. It's maybe slightly more tolerable if trading isn't such a risk because of the hack check, but still, I'd rather just be able to catch everything in my one game.
For balance, I probably shouldn't be given a say considering how long I've been playing, but the most egregious standouts to me that made me want to play less were speed control. I think nerfing tailwind to 50% speed boost (matching choice scarf or if thats too many speed ties, maybe 60% or speed bboost) and lowering trick room to 4 turns would have made my experience a lot better. It really sucks to play a hard trick room team and you fail to prevent trick room and just lose on the spot turn 1 effectively.
I really hope they keep Tera types. Best gimmick since megas and I want to see a VGC with both. Also single battles would be cool in the VgC
-A Pokemon Stadium game that you can transfer all Pokemon would be nice with content such as teaching about IVs and EVs, a whole PWT where you can battle past gym leaders and elite four members and champions, and spectator mode

On the other hand of the accessability point, there are pokemon that are available for everyone to catch in SV that will most likely not be usable for everyone. (I am specifically talking about Meloetta in SV.) Mythical pokemon have never been legal in tournament play. Mythical pokemon are becoming more accessible in pokemon games. I think if we have had a formats where Calyrex is legal, than let me play in a format where Shaymin is legal (I am also biased because Shaymin is my favorite pokemon, and I have been waiting to use it in a competitive vgc format).

I would love more representation of VGC in the MENA region (Middle East and North Africa). I know Arabs in general are not huge into VGC but we're pretty into Esports so a few regionals could be enough to generate hype around here. With the way things currently stand it is near impossible to get into Worlds here unless more online tourneys open up or paying thousands of dollars to go to a few regionals.
Even Limitless the website has very few country flags from MENA, so I can't even stan and represent my country in non-official online tournaments it honestly sucks how I can't really participate in many pokemon events just cuz of my country.

Please just give us a free to play battle simulator (stadium) with pokemon go/unite style outfits/holowear microtransactions.
I want more customization in battle settings. I want to be able to restrict certain pokemon or even run themed events and I need to police people its so annoying. If I could just change the setting to be something like set all mons to level 10, or mono type only etc

Honestly the only thing that keeps me from playing VGC is that i cant have all 6 of my Pokemon. To me a person who is from the outside looking in, it defeats the purpose of building a good team doing all that work that goes into it and only being able to use only 4 at a time just sucks the feeling of accomplishment of building a team

In a franchise where you are supposed to get invested in your mons the rigidity of IVs and the tedium of changing IVs needs to be removed. I would absolutely love it if after you beat there was a way to get sliders for EVs/IVs for your mons. So as an example I can use a sweeper Arcanine in one tournament and then later I can use that same Arcanine as a tanky slow support for a trick room team. The current way unless its just easier to re breed which feel bad
i totaly agree with the spectetor mode , but i think u need even more u need a way to be able to have all games of a tournament available in a server or for domnload , imagine how huge will be if u can upload to youtube a whole tournament game by game , content creators will have a blast , vgc players will be able to finally be know from the audience and people will be able to apreciate insane plays even if they wasnt in top 16 they audience will be able to find new players they like and actually follow them and be able to see if ur favorite player lost to lack or skill , and 3rd imagine how easier will be for a random person to learn and play vgc has if they have footage to see and study and learn , and yes i start vgc this year and after wolrds i was so disapointed i was w8ing so long to see new fun teams my fav players and most of all the first 5 greeks ever go to worlds and saw none of that i didnt saw how all greeks went 4-4 with difrent teams never saw how wolfie lost or the groudon team i was so exited about and the stream was abismal 9 hour streams for 8 games ? all together was 3,5 hours and the rest was the casters trying to save this ever ending void and they all was good casters but they cant be good if there is nothing to cast. and considering how hard it is for the average pokemon fan to even dip their toes in vgc in actual pokemon games, needing nintendo online and a rental team at the bare minimum, giving every fan a chance to attempt to try the competitive scene without having to find a popular team and go on pokemon showdown. It could increase the scene by a whole lot which in turn would drive up game sales, also the free aspect meaning that it wouldn’t require switch online

I couldn't disagree more about the accessibility take, it only makes sense to include prior games, it rewards players for buying and playing the games, and the more copies that are sold the better for the franchise
Not everyone can afford to buy both copies of the game, and I think it's ridiculous that new player has to play 6 different games to just to be on a level playing field
@ScooteezyVGC unfortunately I just can't agree. The cost of the games are nothing. The price of entering 1 regional is the same as buying 2 games, not counting flights, hotels, food, cabs etc... it's a manufactured excuse. Also nobody needs to buy every game there are top tier teams to be made from just 1 version of the game, not to mention the fact that rental teams are a thing.

@@RagingAbout for me and you it might seem like nothing, I personally own ever game and I 100% the dex, but there's a bunch of juniors/seniors that rely on there parents, there are other who financially struggle and can't justify buying both copies of a game. Obviously a lot of the top competitors do what they can go get to all events, but you have to keep in mind how many people love VGC that can't afford or travel.
I just think adding mons like urshi/torn in reg D was very bad, and it can affect how people might perform if they can't afford a game where you can catch shifu

Personally what I really want from gen 10, is that the resource tied to the generational gimmick is not a fucking choir to farm. In SV you need 50 tera shards of a type to change it and outside of event raids you get like 4-5 top per high level raid? It was so tedious to farm the shards at the beginning, and if it werent for the blissey and 7 star event raids, my stockpile if shards would be rather poor. I do not want that repeated in the next gen.
U need to complete kitakami dex and the science professor gives you the amulet which increases a lot the amount of Thera shards in raids. If you beat three 5 stars raid you get more than 50 shards

Give Garchomp Dragon Dance, give Pikachu and Eevee the Let's Go stats, buff Raichus speed. Give Gyarados fly, it literally flies in LA, also give it Aqua Jet. Add Nat Dex. Bring back Megas. Reverse the Zacian nerf, its unplayable now.
If you reverse Zacian's nerf, Zamazenta will become absolutely stronger since they would also reverse it's nerf.

On the CP earning thing: You do know that previously it was 6, and now it's even 5 tournaments, that count? Like, you could attend 25 tournaments, but only 5 of them count for your CP afaik? Plus, they apparently nerfed ICs and buffed regionals? Though I could see an argument to limit the amount fo torunaments OUTSIDE YOUR HOME REGION for everyone. Like, you are allowed to attend each tournament in your home region, but only 3 in other regions. I could totally see players from "stronger" regions attending tournaments in "weaker" regions in hopes of getting a better shot at earning big points...
Okay, I have exactly ONE thing but this one single-handedly might make VGC about 10x more popular: Custom Team Builder.
By that I mean the ability to go to some post-game NPC, put together the team of your dreams - mons, gender, abilities, items, IVs, EVs, moves, whatever the current gimmick is, of course all within the rules of what's legal in the respective format - and have that team for online and maybe some post-game thing if the battle frontier or somethingsimilar is a thing again. Like literally a... build-a-team thing, without the need of owning previous versions, days and weeks of breeding, resetting 200x for the right stats on your legendary/mythical mon etc, but available to EVERYONE. That'd eliminate a huge advantage some players already have by virtue of being able to use PkHex and stuff, and eliminate ahuge entry barrier for everyone without that advantage.

Unfortunately the problem here is you aren't talking to a sympathetic peer when addressing these issues. You'd be talking to someone with The Pokemon Company with a degree in marketing whose primary objective is to squeeze every last cent out of every single consumer possible.
From our perspective it makes no sense to not include these small things but from a business stand point why would they implement these things if any of it was going to lose them even a little bit of potential money?

and on an other topic there should be a vgc mode like shodown otherwise will always be pay to win and always be gate keeping from new players and i can see how if u put all legendaries in new games that old games lose nostalgic value and their uniqueness, and to be fair i wouldnt like much to have more double battle vs the main story coz removes a lot of the casual pve aspect. and one more thing u guys say for regionals and stuff coz most u are in japan or US imagine people in greece how much that they have to go to the other side of europe for a tournament that probably will get 0 money back and there is no locals and stuff why not make online qualifiers and stuff so u can reduce amound of people there but pay them a bit just for making it , will make the tournaments more intresting too if u see bigger portion of the tournament over the 10% we see now and u can have the benifit to spread out the games outside a weekend to have more content to farm and stream and better plays on the tournament it self coz people wont be zombies after 12 hours of games, pretty sure if u want to have a competive scene u try to have the best of the best at their best not an endurance battle , if u wanted to test their endurance u could make them run, i see how the players would like these less chanses for live events but on the other hand u need the audience to be able to sustain profecial players and worst case u can have both regionals that people can go for fun , and qualifiers for bigger tournaments like internationals
Vgc will never be great until the devs start taking it seriously and treating it like an actual game and not a chore. The biggest issue with competitive pokemon is that I can’t just get on the game and start playing, I have to spend hours and hours building a team first. Theres so many other games that you can just turn on and play immediately whenever you get free time and Pokemon is far from that. With gen 10 and every new gen forward there needs to be a built in battle simulator where you can build teams and battle on the fly.
Another issue is balance. This is the only competitive game that doesn’t get balance changes, why is gamefreak afraid to update the game mid gen?
Rusty bottle cap an easier way to get EV reduction items. Cheaper vitamins more so the machines in the Isle of Armor Dojo or someone like the Clear Lady from Sw/Sh again.
