Very informative video. Thanks! I noticed the claimed consumption efficiency for standard battery is the same for 17' and 19' wheels (5.2) but different for the extended range. Any idea why? Also do you think there would be a difference in damping and driving quality between the std and ext range EV3? My wife and dog get car sick very easily so would the ev6 make more sense over ev3?
Hi there, it's weird I feel connected seeing my wife, doggo and car sick part together. The first question, I have no idea why it has such different efficiency there, your question is very on point and valid. I'm curious about that too. Although car manufacturers do often use different suspension, spring rates and even damping setups between same cars with different specifications, I doubt that'd be the case with the EV3. However, I cannot guarantee you anything about that. Last question is probably the only useful answer I can give, EV3 is actually one of a very few cars my wife was okay to be in on a long distance drive. EV6 is better in pretty much every single way possible, but I'd say don't give up on the EV3 because of the car sick part. If sitting leaned back on the passenger seat eases the motion sickness, EV3 does that just fine as much as EV6 does (of course without no one sitting on the back). If it isn't the factors EV6 has over EV3 that you cannot give up - larger car, battery, trunk, NVH, options, drive, etc. - I'd say give EV3 a go! Nothing beats that AUTO mode, please test drive one!

Awesome video as always, thank you! Now that you have driven both cars a lot I would like to ask which car would you buy between the Kia EV3 and the facelifted Hyundai Ioniq 5?
I mean if I get a car for free between the two, it will always be IONIQ 5 or EV6. Two cars are better than EV3 almost in every single way. However, if I were to buy one myself, I'd most likely lean towards EV3 because it checks almost all boxes for my use + money factor, which is the largest factor in car purchase decisions for me.
This is excellent, thanks. I have a Hyundai Ioniq HEV, which I really like, but am thinking of going EV - and the EV3 is the right size and range for me.
I’d say it is comfy enough given its class. There are EV6 and EV9 in Kia family, so technically EV3 should be “lower” than those, but still is really great.
Thank you for making these videos bro! Very helpful even for me all the way across the globe in the UK 😛 The Kia EV3 will be my first EV for sure. Love it.
Thank you for making these in depth EV3 videos. I've been learning a lot from you and I'm convinced that this will be my next EV. I love driving around with one pedal with my Nissan Leaf but its regen can be kind of harsh if I'm not careful with my foot. I was going to get the Ayria but didn't due to the lack of true one pedal driving. EV3's i-pedal 3.0 is exactly what I need. Charging speed doesn't really matter to me because I always charge at home when I'm sleeping. I also love the design of this car, inside and out. Can't wait until this car arrives in the US!
Hi DK. Thanks so much for all your terrific videos. I feel that I'll just be able to slide into my new EV3 and know exactly how it will react on that first drive. My long range Air is now in the UK and I hope to take delivery of it in 12 days time. Can't understand why so many are hung up on charging rates with a range like the EV3 has. I've been driving Renault Zoe's for 11 years now and can't wait to see how the EV3 compares. I'm sure I'll not be disappointed.😀
I really should've gotten the fastest charging speed with the EV3. I almost feel bad for Kia and EV3 now😭 Didn't know this many would point out a slow charging speed that's resulted from the charger indeed.
When you come from an EV6, that still charges at 120 kW @ 80% SoC, I guarantee you this is a huge step back. This EV3 is just the perfect car for me, except this aspect.
Hello, great videos for a great car! Could you tell us more about the AI Assistant? Have you tried it? What can you control with it? Is it coming to all trims? Does it support multiple languages? The preliminary specs in Greece mention the 'ability to control the infotainment system with voice commands' on the lower trim ('Earth'), I'm guessing/hoping this is it.
It was more like onboard ChatGPT, asking questions with proper prompts would yield a decent reply. It was more of an update on the previous Kia Assist we had. I didn't spend much time using that feature.
I couldn't check the charger output beforehand, hence the video you watched😭 I thought the last one would be fast enough, but well🤷♂ Charging Time: The Kia EV3 can charge from 10% to 80% in about 31 minutes using DC fast charging, with a maximum charging power of 128 kW
@@CarSceneKorea I know Kia and Hyundai are known for keeping close to advertised charging speeds. So when i saw the fairly slow DC charing i was like wait what? Ha ha But thanks. And have a great weekend in Korea 👍
I'm still confused about "auto" mode! I have a 5 year old KIA Soul EV and it will stop automatically in traffic when using adaptive cruise control. How does that different from auto mode?
It "behaves" different. You get so much more confidence and the car itself handles, drives much smoother than using the HDA on the streets. HDA: Highway Driving Assist, as the name suggests it is meant to be used on highways, not so much cities - although I use it all the time too with my Seltos. So, you can think of the AUTO mode as HDA always being active wherever you are + it is customized to each driving condition and situation.
Hi fan watching from Denmark, i want the gt line ev3, do you know if it has the feature, if you kick under the trunk it will open, for hands free opening of the trunk?

Love this video! You're showing that a relatively small car like the EV3 is so versatile that no other car is needed. I do have a question on the range, though: You believe that the car will definitly reach over 500km. Would you say this only applies to the conditions you were driving in (i.e., hot weather, dry roads)? Or do you think the car will perform equally well in winter conditions (wet roads, around or below freezing temperatures)?
I haven't driven the car in winter - since the car didn't meet its first winter yet - but that 500km I've carefully stated because I know there will be people who will get much longer driving range than that. Averaging the two, I can say with confidence that it will be well over 500km. However, under certain extreme & harsh conditions like you've mentioned, 500km mark might be a bit challenging, but judging by how EV3 performed during the entire 1,000km test drive, I have very high hopes for that. I will come back with the test drive in winter if I can :)
I still managed to get 400km driving solely(nearly) on the freeway with a passenger, luggages and AC running the whole time, so mix it with a bit of city driving, you will see 500km very often.
Very different from the traditional Auto Mode we've had thus far from Hyundai Motor Group. One of a kind in the entire EV line up, hands down the best one ever in city driving.
Hello I'm from Taiwan My country is expected to introduce EV3 in the second quarter of next year I watched a lot of videos you shot about EV3 I want to ask you a few questions 1. Can the cruising range for urban commuting reach 600KM? 2. How long does it take to slowly charge 10-80% (when the charging coefficient is the best) 3. Is the space of this car suitable for a family of 2 adults and 1 child under one year old? If you have time to reply, please reply again. Thank you very much.
1. I can only tell you the EV3 will (and should) offer you the driving range as proposed. i.e., you will get 500km driving range with 17in wheels Long Range model. However, 600km does seem promising to those who get longer range than suggested ones due to their driving habit, environment, etc. Although I cannot guarantee you anything than what Kia has said about the car, it's widely known that HMG EVs offer longer driving range than what's proposed. 2. Charging Time: The Kia EV3 can charge from 10% to 80% in about 31 minutes using DC fast charging, with a maximum charging power of 128 kW 3. The question is a bit ambiguous for the obvious reason, the perspective of the term "suitable" will depend heavily on an individual to another. However, I say you can utilize the EV3 for such family no problem so long as you've done so before with Compact SUV. However, EV3 is never a large size SUV, a small CUV I'd say. It is similar to Kia Seltos in many ways in terms of the size.
You have mentioned that this is a great city car, however, with 500 km of range, it would appear that this would also be a great road trip EV… And US, a good road trip is something like 500 to 700 miles… Do you believe the EV3 is up to the task?
The more the better when it comes to range of course, but I don't think many would even consider an EV if they do a long distance drive - road trip - on a regular basis. I mean there's nothing that can be done about charging up an EV exceeding its range. I personally don't mind stopping over at a rest to charge up the car every now and then for an yearly road trip if there shall be one.
Figured I'd share the comment with other English viewers too. However, it has nothing to do with my opinion, I cannot vouch for the numbers and facts stated here. The comment translated using AI: The biggest advantage of the EV3's regenerative braking is that, unlike the Tesla, you can recharge the electricity with full regenerative braking even with 2 pedals (gas and brake) (an added advantage of electronic brakes). For example, the last step of I PEDAL LVL is that you can 1-pedal, and if you don't like one-pedaling, you can lower the level to LVL1, and then you can 2-pedal and drive like a conventional internal combustion car (with almost no rumbling) while trapping the full regenerative braking effect (because regenerative braking first > 0.4G when braking > physical brake comes in). In other words, you get perfect regenerative braking with less chance of pedal malfunction issues that traditional internal combustion car owners have (real-world average fuel economy between 7.0 and 8.0 mpg city - per GTline, based on a 60km commute today in 12 degrees Fahrenheit). Auto mode is simply a manual version of Smart Cruise mode. It doesn't stop at traffic lights unless there's a car in front of it, so... You need to pay attention to your brakes
Thanks for doing another charging test. The still pretty low charging power could be due to the high state of charge. But then again Kia said the ev3 is supposed to have a pretty flat charging curve. With max power of what was it around 130kw for the long range. Averaging out to average charge rate of 100kw for charging 10-80%. Otherwise the advertised 31min to 80% charge speed seems very much not possible.
E-GMP is capable of charging 10% to 80% in 18 minutes with IONIQ 5 & EV6, etc., however, I've only charged the car using such output only once for filming purpose. The real-world charging speed of any if not all EVs from Hyundai Motor Group is fast enough to get you moving, I think. I do wish I got a bit faster reading though, since I'm getting so many comments about the charging speed when it is the charger to blame!😭
It's caused by the charger, not the car. It's probably an old 150/180kW unit that is current limited to 200A, so cars with a lower base voltage can't take more than what is shown in the video. On this type of unit even a tesla would only achieve 80-90kW. Gavin from @EcotricityNZ did a review of a pre-production car in NZ including charging and he got to 10 - 80% in 31 -32 minutes and from the video around 25%SoC the car took 122kW ( 345A * 354V ).
In your videos, i saw that if you drive the EV cars for a short distance like 2-3 km, your consumption is terrible. I see 1-3km/kwh, is this true that these are like the same as ICE cars? If you drive fuel cars on short distances, they are also using a lot of fuel, but i thought that with EV cars they use no matter what, very little kwh on short distances. I would need a car for 2-4 km distances but if my average would be 2--3km/kwh is a disaster
You see that very low number quite often regardless of the vehicles' types. I see all sorts of crazy number in short distance drives. It often is crazy good.
Perhaps the delay for the gas pedal is a safety feature. The idea being that accidentally hitting the gas pedal doesn't suddenly cause the vehicle to jerk.
@@CarSceneKorea You are probably right. Although I could see this being a test phase for the feature with the idea of it being a toggle for all modes in the future. It is hard to get real world data on a feature that is optional so forcing it into at least one mode makes sense for now.
0:13 🤷🏽♂️could be the i-pedal. Maybe it doesn't "automatically" slow-brake the car when releasing your foot from the accelerator. From what I meant is that, if you set the i-pedal to 3 levels, it always stays at 3 levels on the brakes. In which so requires you to press the accelerator further down (forward) to actually get the car up to speed. I'm just hypothesising🤧
Thanks for sharing :) Based on that hypothesis, the brake feedback should be different for other lower levels as well, but they just aren't. It's only at the Level 3, where the car just won't move when the accelerator is pressed. It's only for a few milliseconds as I've mentioned, but that it feels like forever compared to other modes. Just wanted to point that out, I wouldn't really complain about that since I will always put the car in AUTO🥳
@@CarSceneKorea I understand, it could be the reason🤔. A millisecond feels like forever. Just reminds me of a turbo lag in combustion vehicles, but for EV's 😂You could have complained months ago so Kia could maybe fix it with an update.
@@OratileTrusts I think it's done on purpose. All other modes have the typical quick, rapid, fast EV reaction time. Turbo lag, ha! That brings me back!
Electric cars charge at full speed only when the battery is almost empty, so 0-15-25% (depending on battery chemistry, voltage, temperature etc). If you want to see the max charging power, try when the battery it's at ~5-10%.
I really liked the ev3, but what is up with the charging speed? I knew it wouldn't charge as fast as their 800v brothers and sisters, but i thought at least half would be possible... But 60-70kw is abysmal bad... That is more on a level of cars from 2015-2016... Thought we have that slow charging speeds behind us. It should at least get 100kw charged or like the VW ID3 which sits at 125kw... And this car is now 4 years old
It looks like limiting the charger to 200A as it was in the previous video. The voltage of the big battery is in the mid 300s. The charger in the car should allow around 350A, so peak power should be in the range of 120-130kW.
@@KookyBone Yeah, I did mention about that a few times in the video, but I cannot blame the viewers. I shall find the fastest charging possible on future EV charging.
there's must be some issues with that charging speed, it's not possibile to be that slow (and in 2024 it's also not acceptable), kia's advertising talk about 125-130kw peak for the bigger battery, and i was hopping also in a flat charging curve.
What I really hate about regen braking is when I'm a passenger in a taxi. Taxi drivers here are terrible with it. I won't get into an EV taxi if I know we're going on the highway.
I am with you and I think also in the same country. On the one hand, the Skoda is cheaper but has older technology than the Kia. But on the other hand, the Kia is much more expensive, especially in comparison to the extra options and versions.
@@J.R.-yh2du Because it is exactly the same as in the 2021 Enyaq. I mean, no new functionality or improvements, everything is the same. Although to be fair, just because it's a few years older technology doesn't mean it's worse.
It is possible that this generation of EV5 will not reach many European markets, but we will have to wait for the completion of the upgrade of the KIA plant in Slovakia.
71.1 kW is horrible in 2024 - it seems that this a major flaw of this car, and if true, it will fail miserably. Such a shame - i love everything else about this car, but 71 kW ??? Come on KIA.
It’s the charger not the car. Pardon me not filming the best charging performance on the video. I did mention this in the video, but can’t blame my viewers😭
Gavin from @EcotricityNZ did a review of a pre-production car in NZ including charging and he got to 10 - 80% in 31 -32 minutes and from the video around 25% SoC the car took 122kW ( 345A * 354V ).
@@CarSceneKorea 70kW? 100kW? I'm sorry but those are charging speeds from 10 years ago. Like I said, I really Kia EV's. The EV6, the EV9, the GV60, etc. But those charge at over 200kW. But they missed the boat with the EV3. That's not much better the Bolts horrible charging speed. And that one uses charging tech from a decade ago.
Congrats you have fast chargers where you are, not quite here in Korea as shown in the video. Like I've said, it's the charger, not the car. You will get those speed where you are!
After owning two Hyundais and one Kia, Im pretty sure I will never buy a Hyundai again due to quality issues. But its ok, perhaps KGM or other brands are better.
I really like the car, but I'm realizing more and more that I'm getting old. All these software features don't interest me at all, apart from security functions. I would order the EV3 immediately if it had rear-wheel drive and around 300 hp.

Glad it was helpful!
Does the ev3 have memory seat ?
On higher trims, yes.
how is the seats quality , is that comfortable ? Can you compare with other EV’s seats plz ?
I’d say it is comfy enough given its class. There are EV6 and EV9 in Kia family, so technically EV3 should be “lower” than those, but still is really great.
Is the pearl white worth the 700€ upgrade over the standard white? Or is standard white (almost) as good?
Not sure which white you are referring to, there's only Snow White Pearl here in Korea for the EV3.
@CarSceneKorea interesting, here in Europe there ist a free Standard White and a 700eur Pearl White.
Nice review thanks!
Still no news from EV5?
It is not yet available in Korea😭
@@CarSceneKorea it's crazy it's nowhere 😭 I can't wait for it!
Thank you for making these videos bro! Very helpful even for me all the way across the globe in the UK 😛 The Kia EV3 will be my first EV for sure. Love it.
Glad you like it! 👍Enjoy it!
Glad I could help you find your next EV! The AUTO mode is truly amazing, I drove the car only in the AUTO mode when not filming.
Exciting 🎉
Congrats on your EV3 btw, hands down the best EV of 2024 from my list!
Aret therese chargers only 70 kw? Because the adds here in Denmark say standart Range can charge at 101kw and Long range 128kw :)
I couldn't check the charger output beforehand, hence the video you watched😭 I thought the last one would be fast enough, but well🤷♂
Charging Time: The Kia EV3 can charge from 10% to 80% in about 31 minutes using DC fast charging, with a maximum charging power of 128 kW
@@CarSceneKorea I know Kia and Hyundai are known for keeping close to advertised charging speeds. So when i saw the fairly slow DC charing i was like wait what? Ha ha
But thanks.
@@CarSceneKorea Interesting! I can't wait to take it out on a test drive.
Hi fan watching from Denmark, i want the gt line ev3, do you know if it has the feature, if you kick under the trunk it will open, for hands free opening of the trunk?
You can get the automated trunk, I don't think you can do the kick thing.
Is't possible to sleep in the car? Can you measure maximum length of the trunk?

Same here, bring it to Korea already!
Does EV3 come with smart park Assist where you can park with the key like EV6
You can pull the car in & out using the key fob.
So, when are you trading in your Seltos for an EV3?
I wish I could. I would already be driving an EV had I had the infrastructure around my daily life.
Some day you will! Our apartment just installed several chargers in every parking garage so, we now have the infrastructure.
Is this version you are testing with HDA2.0? Do you have any insights into the difference with HDA1.5?
EV3 gets HDA2.
I have it ordered with HDA1.5
Do you know the practical difference between the two?
@@Rediwed1one changes lanes for you the other doesn't
A absolutely love everything about this car, except the charging speed. 70 kW is a huge step back. It's a total no-go for me.
That's due to the charger, not the car😭
I'll be leaving mine in auto. I always have my e-Niro in auto. I like minimal effort. About 3 weeks till I get it.
Very different from the traditional Auto Mode we've had thus far from Hyundai Motor Group. One of a kind in the entire EV line up, hands down the best one ever in city driving.
Beautiful design
Thanks! The styling is definitely on point.
Do you know if the 2025 Ioniq 5 and or the Ioniq 5N have i-PEDAL 3.0 & AUTO Mode?
Simple answer to that is a no, unfortunately.
man this is a shame...
Hello
I'm from Taiwan
My country is expected to introduce EV3 in the second quarter of next year
I watched a lot of videos you shot about EV3
I want to ask you a few questions
1. Can the cruising range for urban commuting reach 600KM?
2. How long does it take to slowly charge 10-80% (when the charging coefficient is the best)
2. Charging Time: The Kia EV3 can charge from 10% to 80% in about 31 minutes using DC fast charging, with a maximum charging power of 128 kW
What is the 30 minute power of the kia ev 3?
Charging Time: The Kia EV3 can charge from 10% to 80% in about 31 minutes using DC fast charging, with a maximum charging power of 128 kW
@@CarSceneKorea No, what is the 30-minute power of an electric motor in horsepower or kilowatts
Figured I'd share the comment with other English viewers too. However, it has nothing to do with my opinion, I cannot vouch for the numbers and facts stated here.
The comment translated using AI:
The biggest advantage of the EV3's regenerative braking is that, unlike the Tesla, you can recharge the electricity with full regenerative braking even with 2 pedals (gas and brake) (an added advantage of electronic brakes).
Waiting for the comparison video of Niro EV and EV3.
That's also coming!
Time to release the beast! 😊
Ugh I wish we got these in the USA
Wonder when other companies will get self-driving on par with Tesla. Maybe 10 years behind at current rate, maybe 5.
Perhaps the delay for the gas pedal is a safety feature. The idea being that accidentally hitting the gas pedal doesn't suddenly cause the vehicle to jerk.
It does that only on one single level as mentioned, so I'm thinking it's for those who like less responsive EVs🧐
Just reminds me of a turbo lag in combustion vehicles, but for EV's
😂You could have complained months ago so Kia could maybe fix it with an update.
@@OratileTrusts I think it's done on purpose. All other modes have the typical quick, rapid, fast EV reaction time. Turbo lag, ha! That brings me back!
@@CarSceneKorea But let's admit it, the car is great. Nothing more to complain of❤️🔥
Electric cars charge at full speed only when the battery is almost empty, so 0-15-25% (depending on battery chemistry, voltage, temperature etc). If you want to see the max charging power, try when the battery it's at ~5-10%.
Duly noted! I shall do so next time.
If the range is accurate the EV3 is a definite winner will sale like hotcakes.
It was always correct, with a margin of error less than 5% throughout the entire 1,000km test drive.
And this car is now 4 years old
It's the charger, not the car😭Using a 350kW charger, EV3 will charge from 10% to 80% in 31 minutes.
@@CarSceneKorea good to know.... Because this looked bad
I couldn't check the charger output beforehand, hence the video you watched😭 I thought the last one would be fast enough, but well🤷♂

@@CarSceneKorea In any case you did a great job reviewing this car, I really appreciated your videos. Keep going!

You're not alone😭Hope these latest tech would ease such issues.
I like a lot of ev3 but the new skoda alroq with 8 years of warranty and 160000km, with a lower price, got me thinking.
The more choices, the better it is for us customers!

@@Razor-pw1xn could you explain why you say that Skoda has older technology?
@@J.R.-yh2du Because it is exactly the same as in the 2021 Enyaq. I mean, no new functionality or improvements, everything is the same. Although to be fair, just because it's a few years older technology doesn't mean it's worse.

@@CarSceneKorea 70kW? 100kW? I'm sorry but those are charging speeds from 10 years ago. Like I said, I really Kia EV's. The EV6, the EV9, the GV60, etc. But those charge at over 200kW.
