- THE PEOPLE HAVE SPOKEN and this is our second of three campaign missions before heading into a sandbox game! In this episode, we're whisked off to the island of Java in Indonesia, where we're setting up a transportation company to transport coffee in 1870. We'll learn more advanced building techniques, including how to adding passing tracks, how to delete things, and how to respect the topography.
And by the end, you'll figure out why I had to deliver coffee to a priestess.
Enjoy!

You don't have to build a truck station in the city, you only need a truck stop. Also, have you ever seen a train with only one carriage 😂? The longer the more profit you can get because with similar expenses you can deliver more and get more payments.
A truck stop also would've done the trick at the temple. And not killed the ambiance!
For the City you actually need to build a truck station in the campaign idk why that is but trying to place a truck stop doesn't work
if you only deliver you only need a truck stop truck stations are only needed to store goods for pickup
this applies in real life too, hence the prevalence of Precision Scheduled Railroading. It's a nightmare in pretty much every department besides corporate profits though.
While it's true that trains with more carriages means more profit, you have to balance that with the weight of the carriages, and the power of the locomotive. Adding too many carriages can result in a train that doesn't have the power to pull the load.
As someone who has played the Transport Fever series since inception, you would be thoroughly missing out by not completing the campaign - and the things you learn are crucial for a fun (and profitable) free play series. After the first chapter, you get lots more freedom with how you complete the missions and the detailing is beautiful; I think those suggesting a leap to free play fear more of the same style of very intense guidance from the tutorial, which is absolutely not the case.
Playing the rest of the campaign will be great content and will *greatly* enhance a future free play map.
I agree, I hope he reconsiders not playing more of the campaign. I would like to see that he plays through the campaign too at least! I personally enjoy watching his take on the singleplayer missions etc.
Yes, the campaign is so underrated!
yes, l would be curious to see him play the China scenario.
As an Indonesian, I can say that this map is quite realistic (Surabaya should be on the top bc it's north but ok). Although there is no national road on the northern side of java (the campaign takes place on 1880's, decades after Daendels made the famous Anyer-Panarukan national road in 1810's).
That's it and I really love the series, keep it up!
It's quite interesting to see you play the map upside down. Surabaya is located in East Java while Semarang is in Central Java. The route you made along the northern coast of the island for the sugar mission is somewhat historical, which is also quite interesting.
On a side note, I wish that you complete at least the first chapter of the campaign for a sense of closure to this short series. It doesn't have to be done before the free play. Just plop a mission every now and then for the complete 6.
I proudly invite all of you to come and visit Surabaya, my hometown, the second biggest city in Indonesia. You can see the old buildings with ex-colonialism architecture as well as the train viaducts built by the Dutch.
is it nicer than yogyakarta?
As a dutch fella I'll visit it one day (hopefully)!
@@cooltwittertag in a term of city history you'll find a lot of historic building and have a city and sightseeing tour, but prepared yourself for the unique climate of Surabaya, its humid and hot, so better pack your summer clothes if you plan to visit
Also don't forget to try the food👍
is it good city
I want to visit Surabaya since a long time. Greetings from Bandung, saudara
Right by where I live (in the UK) there is a 20m deep cutting for the railway which goes onto a 20m tall bridge straight away surely disrespecting topography is what building railways is all about
North Kent?
The way u chose Surabaya as the HQ is instinctively correct according to history lol and it's calming to see u thinking while playing this game.
You can clone (and replace) vehicles if you open the line view, so if you want to add another train to the coffee line, open the coffee line and select your train and hit the two squares.
I was just about to say that! It's a handy tool.
Not gonna scroll through all the comments, but when placing roads/tracks, note the little arrow on the side where you accept the placement. You can raise/lower it to keep it as flat as possible, reducing costs, and helping to "respect the topography" even more.
Honestly I think you could bounce back and forth between the campaign missions and free play mode. There’s a ton of fun challenges in the campaign.
My one piece of advice for this game is to place tracks in sections as long as possible, as the game automatically grades the track with a constant slope between your start and end points. So, placing the track in several short pieces can result in wild grades resembling a rollercoaster more than a realistic rail line. Early in the campaign its not a big deal, but with trains carrying thousands of tons of cargo all those inclines really dampen the performance of a line with the trains constantly slowing down on a climb.
Coffee and colonialism with cheap labor? Yeah. The Dutch ended slavery in Batavia around 1912.
Indonesian here, never played transport fever, have ever heard, but I felt called out by the title and thumbnail. Been watching you for a couples months now! thanks for sharing our country!
I really enjoy this series. Always had Transport Fever on my steam list but few games are Mac compatible.
I sprinted thru the first 3 campaigns. There’s some unique quirks to the game:
1). Having separate platforms how to use one station for passenger and cargo means you basically have two stations and need to adjust line (helps to name the platforms differently)
2). The truck hub has goofy routing so you really gotta pick your platforms.
3). Cargo will only start moving once every piece from the supply to demand is set up, so you gotta check your work.
4). Each train you put than 1 train per line means more signals, sometimes it’s better to have a ton of wagons vs a bunch of trains.
Excited to watch the series and play alongside!
While I would love a let's play of a free play. I would also love to see the campaign completed as well.
As an Indonesian, I would like to express my gratitude towards your assistance in building local transportation that will boost local economy. A task that those incompetent colonist never able to get done without causing turmoil. Fortunately, they are all dead by now so nobody will arrest me and enslave me then send me to Suriname to meet great grand grandson from the brother of my great grand grandpa.
Im starting a Graduate Role at Transport for London in September, so I've been doing a modded freeplay over the last few days with lots of British Rail rolling stock including a couple of London Underground stock. This game is perfect for making nice looking and well functioning rail networks.
Phil... I've never really been interested in most TPF2 campaign videos, but YOUR personality and production style does make them very enjoyable! My "vote" would be for you to continue with campaigns to learn a LOT more about the TPF2 game mechanics BEFORE attempting any free play. Why? Well, while you are assured of quickly getting thousands of views for each episode because of WHO you are... TH-cam is already saturated with so-o-o many people with very little knowledge of TPF2, making videos demonstrating the wrong way of doing things! Here's hoping you can consider upping your level of expertise and hours in this game before committing to a free play series :) Cheers mate!
I used to love playing this game and its great to see your take on it. With regard to how goods are delivered and used IIRC, you can zoom in on a factory you can see goods building up in the factory's yard and they'll disappear into the factory to process them; this is when it's counted as delivered. Also when the factory produces goods that you're not transporting away, they will be stored in the factory's yard too until you create a line that demands it, then thay start being stoted at your station. This is useful when you have multiple lines transporting the same cargo as you can physically see what is waiting for which line.
I'd love to see you cover whole campaign.
I spent way more time playing this game than Cities Skylines.
It's an excellent game way under appreciated.
With Mods it has infinite replayability.
I would love some seriously long episodes in the free play. CS style, 45mins+ ❤
If you want to follow the topography better, then built the rail in shorter sections. If you build a long track section, the algorithm will attempt to get the smoothest path, cutting into hills or raising up valleys.
The downside though is that your train will struggle going up and down over the shorter sections.
Yeah... Ive always wished that the contour map had some finer increments, or the ability to scale the increments according to need.
Also, you can get a round indication of the grade of a network section that you are in the process of building by the arrow indicator that appears next to your mouse: No, slight, moderate or extreme inclline/decline.
I love Transport fever 2, underrated game
I literally watched the last Transport Fever video this morning. The timing is amazing.
so glad you're playing this game phil - it's a great one! also, my advice, watch some youtube videos on how to go about placing the signals for the trains, it can get pretty complicated in the beginning, especially when you start playing sandbox
You are the best City Planner channel on this platform!
Love this series, even got me excited to get into a olay through of my own 😁
Im so glad you're playing this game!
One recomendation is when setting up lines I would mark them in some way as to what type of line it is. for example i use a B for buses, R for rail prefix so as to be tell them apart in the big list of routs and make shure I equip it with the corect vehicals and upgrades.
Mods were a game changer for me in this game. Great to create a network based on a country so the vehicles are locally based. Enjoying seeing a great content creator playing this
I enjoy Transport Fever 2 and it's nice to see it getting some screen time.
Nice to see another Transport Fever video! Can't wait for the free play episodes and see you master logistics and infrastructure
Loving the variety tbh! Makes me wanna buy this game 👏🏻
OMG! CPP plays my new favourite game which I found recently. All I loved about CS is build public transport and roads and this game focuses on it.
Indonesia mentioned :id: :id: :id:
🚂🛩⛵
The earliest I've ever been to a video, nice! Really excited for this game. I just missed the sale but I plan to buy it if it goes on sale again. Your videos are always so peaceful, good to listen to if I need to calm down from a hectic day.
I'm enjoying the campaign stuff a lot. Even just from the perspective of learning how the game works it's worth watching. It'll be interesting to see what you'll be able to do in the free play mode though. Looking forward to finding out what mods are available and what they can do for the game.
Hope your day is good! Thanks for making mine better 😊
Phil disrespects the topography and thusly angers several gods. Good job, Phil! :)
Looking forward to the rest of the campaign and a free build series.
the campaign is really fun though! and your videos help me solve them
It actually matters where you leave the goods in the town, you need to leave it in the part where the demand is. Diffrent part of the city has different demand. I mean if you want the city to grow, also use truck stops instead of a station in the cities.
You mentioned influencing traffic and city growth. As the game goes on in custom maps, traffic can get really bad, which can be solved by building proper networks and mass transit. You're gonna enjoy it, I feel. :D
Looking forward to freeplay 👍nice to see the variety good sir
Oh hell yeah - been waiting for this. Almost bought the game but want to see more. Can’t wait for the upcoming videos - thanks for introducing us to so many cool games!
the game is amazing, i got the deluxe for $10. its so relaxing to play too
@@CustomBooch Missed your reply! My only concern is I’m a console player - seems like a lot of menus, which are always tougher to navigate with a controller. I do well with CS; it’s well-optimized, but Anno really tests my limits.
@@jessicawadleigh1246 oh yeah, completely get your point. It can be a bit much sometimes with a keyboard and mouse too! Never really played anno before tho, so can't comment.
It's definitly interesting to watch you learn the game, but I also cannot wait for the freeplay.
This was fun to watch ;)
love how accurate this is
🤡⛰️🐎 - Been waiting all week for this! Loving this series so far.
I am hooked onto this game, I've played 32 hrs, since i saw you play this game for the first time
For me the most enjoyable mission of the campaign was the last of the first series: Baghdad Railway. If I recall correctly it allows for a bit more freedom in your planning. The others are just a bit too rigid for my liking.
😊 Hey Phill, are you enjoying the game? 😅 It might be a little confusing in the beginning, keep doing the campaigns for more knowledge, this is gonna be great for you 😉👍
Also I was watching your latest video about CS, so I was thinking, this game is really interesting right? So, I wonder if you could gradually give this game some love, unfortunately people don't really give the deserved attention to this game, so, because of you, your trajectory on this community was and it important, everytime I remember about a city builder, I remember you, because you have became a icon, representating the genre, making good use of it, sharing excellent information, knowledge, and likeable characteristics, you are very important for us...
So I wonder if you could give love to this game, and knowledge of the developers behind it, unfortunately we don't get too much information on them, I feel like there's no exact place to see, if not the main website, obviously, Cities Skylines has a lot of open communication with people, so I wonder if you could get in touch with the company, developers, and dig the history behind it and lift the game to a deserving spot, I'm so curious about their projects for this game, it's been few yeasince it released, but I don't know why there's so little communication, or maybe there's but in different languages, when I search videos of the game, there's not many people who speaks English, if they have better information we will never figure out, then I wonder if you're interested in doing a similar thing that you have been doing all these years for Cities Skylines, because we have been seeing the change of interest for people, since CS2 wasn't capable of being that game we wanted, people went back to the first one, people are playing Manor Lords a lot, because they feel disappointed so a new game is always nice, but you are probably very busy with a lot of stuff, I don't know if you're capable of doing something like that, but I think only you could be good for a task like that, you knows how to talk with companies, developers and also with communities, so I was thinking here, you have been playing Transport Fever 2 recently, still getting started, learning, but we're definitely like to see the history about this game, what the company who made it thinks, what they wanted to do, if the game was way more popular, what could they like to do, the current game's goal, updates it had so far, how big their company, how the community help the game, if there's a lack of interest because there's not a lot of people to talk about it, some play this game and quits, some played it whwn it came out and never played again, or showed on their channels, so it could be so important, I feel like you could work your way to get in touch with people who have been playing it for a long time, future collabs, interview with company, developers, or TH-camrs playing this game, in Cities Skylines you have connections with a lot of people, you can get in touch with Paradox Interactive and Colossal Order, and people enjoy your content, so I wonder if you would like to do something like that to rise the popularity of this game that deserves more attention in order to get better, cheer up them to make improvements, shake up the community to breath again, and wake up to get the game some hype, all that work done on Cities Skylines all these years, after some time since they released Transport Fever 2, could it be a good thing to get thme to talk and know more about them? 🤔
I am really looking forward to another great TH-camr doing a TF2 series. I loved Colonel Failures multiple play-throughs but I‘m really excited to see your approach to the sandbox mode!
At 12:15 when you built the passenger rail line, if you build shorter tracks it works better basically it keeps it flat from where you start the building of the track till the next click.
Hi man, it's a pretty cool game with very good building mechanics for rail, roads are a bit wanky. Looking forward to a full campaign with maybe a bit of roleplay and a custom map?
Good to hear that you are going to try the free play. I think you will enjoy it once you see how versatile the game is.
I personally wouldn't mind seeing you play all campaigns, even though having played them myself. But that's just because I love watching your videos or livestreams. Maybe you could livestream the rest of the campaigns?
Never knew that you would ever played an indonesian map. Thank you for always bringing a good content to watch
You really should use the Natural Environnement Professinal mod, and the Track/Street builder info mods!
I'm loving the campaign run, I had a good time playing it.. :)
I highly recommend finishing it before starting scenarios, it teaches a bunch ( and I like the story hah :P )... At minimum you should livestream it
I hope you still do the campaign. The first few feel very tutorially but I promise they open up a bit, it's a fun little romp through history and I think you should really experience it all. Free play is fun and all but campaign has so many neat little set pieces that free play just can't offer.
Sick today 🤧 but your videos always make me feel better 😀
I have fallen into a full on obsession with this game thanks to your other video. Can't wait for the free play!
TH-camr Squirrel has a great how to play for TF2 which is great to watch for beginners. He encourages you to take it slow and really think about your connections and long term planning and not rush into public transport or expand too quickly. Well worth a watch.
If you play free mode, I would recommend leaving the time at 3x for the first 50ish years, as everything moves very slowly during this period of time and then switching to 2x for the rest of the play through
Keep in mind that train tracks often dont respect the Terrain.
Its often better to keep a constant slope even if it carves into the terrain.
I love how random this game from midwestern America to straight up Semarang 😂
Wuiiihhhh Java....! Sugeng Rawuh mas'e 🙂
I don't really watch your videos that much but transport fever 2 is a really good one and I hope you make a series out of it. 😀
I'm glad I found this channel, reminds me of waiting for nerd cubed to upload throughout the week when I was a kid
I don't mind the campaign tbh, I never seen it.
Please consider continuing the campaigns, even if it means creating separate series for campaigns and free play.
I would like to vote to see you bounce between free play and the campaign. That might help you get familiar with the game more, cause there's a lot more to learn than it might first seem. And at least for me trying to do free mode on hard after doing the campaign caused a lot of failures XD
Because you like to terraform, be sure to use the middle brush, it's a much better brush that can cover a larger area at a time.
"We need to make an offering of coffee beans to the snake goddess" is not something I'd ever think I'd hear on this channel 😄
i wouldnt mind watching you complete the whole campaign
i can't get over how beautiful the beach is
15:00 - I feel like this needs … a BRIDGE REVIEW 🎉
I can't handle the narration of the campaign. I'll watch the free play when you get to it.
All those carriages on the new road are trips that didn't get on the train because it only has eight seats. There's passenger demand that you're not meeting.
I've restarted the game too. It's tricky but great fun for a guy (or gal) who never had that train set!
Thank you for including my country in your content, I really appreciate it.
Let me recommend that Semarang and Surabaya are the best places for lovers of very authentic traditional cuisine. Especially food vloggers.
Maybe someone will be interested. Thank you 😁
Thanks!
new epsisode!!!!!!!!! I love this game so much!!
probably my most played game over the past couple of years.
oh once one goes down the rabbit hole of mod trains, vehicles, buildings and other assets for a little decoration... :D
16:32 need a quick RCE cameo for a Bridge Review👷♀️
honestly the campaign was super fun to play, you should play it for your own pleasure at least. the last one is probably my favorite.
Yippee!!! I've wanted CPP to play TPF2 for years!
I've watched many, many hours of this game as played by _Colonel Failure_ and more recently, _Seniac Two_, so it'll be interesting to see your take on this game, campaign or sandbox. Some time ago, I asked you how this runs on a Steam Deck after you tried C:S on it, and you actually did try it out and reported back 😁
As to this session I did wonder a bit about junking the rail station at the sugar plantation...While I agree with ditching the "practice shuttle", rather than tearing up the whole line I would have just run a rail branch from the passenger line to the freight station and added a train to deliver greater quantities of sugar with greater speed than a horse/buggy. The only other thing needed would be a passing siding midway along the route, and the tutorial already taught you about those earlier in the same campaign.
During colonial times (until today) Surabaya has 2 main train stations. One of them goes to south area, and the other goes to Semarang through the North Coast Route. Jawa's North Coast is actually flatter than the south, it should be easier to build there. And that area with the "snake goddess temple" is in the mountains (it is actually Bromo-Semeru mountains region not Merapi), and current roads there are atrociously disrespecting the topography 😂
Of course in real life there may have been more than one way to make the window happy.
If you place only small tracks at a time you can respect the topography......if you place it in length the game will terraform stuff in the middle in order to keep the highest speed
Whoa Indonesia Is Mentioned! Thankyou.
Let's be honest, just because one commenter isn't a fan of watching someone play a campaign because they fear it will be too "regiment", doesn't mean that should dictate the rest of the series. Like what Alexprince2631 said, the campaign becomes much more challenging and offers much more variety and freeplay later on.
Excited to see you do a free play map
If you continued doing the campaigns, many will take at least an hour to finish, and some at the end take hours to finish. That's probably why they thought it would be boring. But I would suggest to do all of them on your own time, then replay the good ones for some videos. There are some really interesting campaigns.
INDONESIA MENTIONED
PROUD MOMENT
never thought i see the name of my hometown on CPP's thumbnail.... not on my bingo list but i'll cross it off
What a fun game.
Oh neat, TF2! Definitely one of the best Transport Tycoon successors.
The Londo's (VOC) is coming back😮
Vanilla tpf2 is... well it's sure there! Freeplay is better when modded upside-down, much like Cities!
