    Honda Talon 1000 R for wide open desert & Talon 1000 X for rock crawling or to drive in smaller trails in the mountains or forests. You could also buy a super charger from Honda which gives it a lot more horsepower that makes the Talon more competitive to other SxS brands.

    • @razorsedgeadventures6599
      @razorsedgeadventures6599 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Honda offers a turbocharger kit, not a supercharger. Brings output to around 170 hp.

    • @snowrulesnate
      @snowrulesnate 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Turbo costs over $5k with installation and basically voids manufacturers warranty plus from the rigs we’ve seen add them, a lot of transmission issues and intake issues, not to mention the machine just wasn’t built very heavy duty. The roll cage is one of the worst in SXS industry outside the YXZ. No thanks

    • @razorsedgeadventures6599
      @razorsedgeadventures6599 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@snowrulesnate to each his own, but just an FYI, the Jackson Racing turbo does not void the warranty and being a Talon owner, I’m pretty involved in the Talon world and I’ve not heard anything about the turbos causing any tranny problems. The Talon cage is 2” as opposed to others being 1 7/8”, so I doubt they are less structurally sound than other OEM cages.

    • @snowrulesnate
      @snowrulesnate 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@razorsedgeadventures6599 your experience may be different thus far with voided warranties related to turbo add on and transmission issues but it does exist and Honda has stated they cannot guarantee manufacturer warranty with the turbo mod. Probably depends a lot on whether your dealer will “leave the turbo add on out of the claim”. The wall thickness of the cage and lack of sufficient bracing support is the cause for concern in rollovers. No manufacturer is perfect, I understand, but Honda didn’t really make this machine very strong when you examine the frame and suspension components compared to everyone except Yamaha whose notably on the weak side as well.

      If you care to know why the Talon has bad geometry for high speed desert running, then watch this video -> th-cam.com/video/Tgi_v9VkNPY/w-d-xo.html
      .
      Basically, the rear suspension arms are too short which transfers the wheels force into the chassis behind and above the center of gravity and it gets worse as the suspension droops.
      .
      Also, the independent suspension on the talon gains and looses wheel track with articulation, which means when the weight of the vehicle is transferred onto the front and rear wheels, the wheels compress and are forced outwards onto the ground laterally. If both wheels have equal resistance its fine, but if one wheel has more grip than the other it will literally push your vehicle off line.
      .
      The speed utv and KRX1000 have suspension that alters the wheels camber throughout the suspension travel so the wheel contacting ground keeps the tract width throughout the suspension travel. -> th-cam.com/video/gEcqcJrxEdo/w-d-xo.html
      .
      It has been reported by actual SXS desert race teams that it has poor geometry. Also, anyone objectively looking over the vehicle can see how small the suspension components are.

The location of the instrument cluster is horrible and the air intake system is one of the dumbest things I’ve ever seen a manufacturer do. There are numerous other problems and that’s why I would go with a Yamaha YXZ instead.

    $23k is kind of a decent price for that. But remember, it doesn't have good desert suspension geometry, it's going to be slow in the dunes, and has an open front diff so it's not going to be great at rock crawling (plus the DCT isn't the best for rock crawling).
    .
    Wait for a speed utv. They are starting at $30k, comes with the most suspension travel, 3.5" internal bypass shocks, geometry designed by a trophy truck race team, a 225hp/300hp e85 engine designed with IndyCar engine builders, and comes with a stout frame and cage. Just look at how dinky the Talon's frame is... people spend thousands on upgrading frame and cage upgrades across the SXS that are already implemented on the Speed units.
