    ---- Hi Guys! ----
I am Kathleen S. Lewis, a homeschool graduate - and former public accountant career woman - turned homeschool mom. I love all things learning and would love to help you with your own learning journey. My own experience being homeschooled throughout my childhood greatly impacts my choices for my kids' homeschool journey. I have also been on a journey myself with my recent discovery of my own giftedness as well as my 4 year old son's, so I hope what I share about that encourages and inspires you as well!

Ugh the overstimulation. I am so sensitive to sound - which is interesting now as a parent to three (quite loud) little people lol. I sometimes have to tap-out and take a break in my room and have my husband take over. I also used to bite things a lot as a child... (plastic forks, styrofoam cups, necklaces). I see both of these things in my son. He also has HUGE emotions and figuring out how to handle the frustration has been a challenge. Buying both of these books. Thank you!

I’m glad I found your channel. So many similarities with my child. It’s mind blowing. I’m not gifted myself but this helps me understand more. I have ADHD and I can’t function if there’s too much random noises. Interesting 🧐
One more question. Do you think perfectionism is a sign of giftedness? And if it’s not perfect the brain shuts down. Just wondering your thoughts 😂

Yes, there are a lot of similarities with ADHD, so it's on my list to research the neuroscience behind why that is! :)
A resounding YES! Many gifted people are perfectionists, and it can be quite debilitating for some of us. I have always been a perfectionist, not willing to call something "done" if I can see there still are improvements that could be made, so there were many abandoned projects as a kid-- and even now as an adult-- because I don't think I can finish it well enough. It took me several months to even start this channel because of my own perfectionism holding me back. For further clarity, just because a person is a perfectionist that doesn't mean he/she is also gifted, and some people can display more perfectionist tendencies than others.

What are the differences between a person with a high level of function autism and a gifted person. This question kept coming to mind and touched on the overlaps a bit in this video but I was listening to your this video and then your other content on homeschool resources for your son and couldn’t help but think of my son. Now disclaimer my son does have sensory issues and might have a high level of function autism but you had such good prospective and examples for what you said. It made me keep going ok well when do I learn what makes the two easily distinguished as different .

Great question! I am still learning about giftedness myself and have just started looking into details on autism too, so this will not be a thorough answer. From what I understand, a person can be both autistic and gifted, and that combination is included in the term "twice exceptional." The term "twice exceptional" generally is used for anyone that is gifted that also has other challenges or differences like dyslexia. My guess is that a "high functioning" autistic person could also be called "twice exceptional." There is a great podcast that I've been listening to which might help you out a bit more: Raising Lifelong Learners. The mom doing the podcast has gifted and twice exceptional kids and actually studied giftedness in getting her masters degree. Hopefully she'll be able to answer any other questions you have!

I've been sitting here wondering if I've been hearing crickets in the background thisbwhole time until you mentioned the sound hypersensitivity.

That's hilarious! Yes, you were hearing cicadas since I'm in Southeastern US. I've since learned my lesson not to record outside because of the background noise that would distract my typical viewer. 🙂

@KSLewisLearning I thought* I heard someone raking leaves as well but maybe that's just me being a crazy Texan. Lol
