Finally someone actually teaching the basic steps with names that lead up to the actual dance! Putting them all together just makes sense. Thanks Oleg! Would even be so much better if you're facing a mirror so we can shadow and be in sync with you left to right.

I’ve taken Salsa, East Coast Swing, and West Coat Swing dance lessons, group and private, and wasn’t taught how the elements of walking, box steps, side steps, rock steps, etc. are the basic components of the dances I learned. Now I see how putting them altogether gives you the different dances! Duh! This was very helpful and I’ll continue to watch your channel. Thank you!

I think of all the intermittent ballroom dance lessons for about thirty five years, this is the easiest I have ever seen. Express learning is great. Too bad I didn’t have this as an elementary school teacher. You can even work up line dancing with some of these. Now to apply these moves while using my walker. My grand nieces will love.

Have taken some dance classes on and off but could never retain what I learned and never could apply it in social situations. You have given me new hope that I can retain and use these basic skills. You truly are a master teacher with how you teach a new concept them back up and do a cumulative review AND you help us believe that we can do this without being highly trained or taking lots of lessons. I can't thank you enough for putting the fun back into dancing and making this free content available. Your accent is so charming.

I love your concept to short circuit learning how to dance Oleg. You’re on the right track. Here’s a thought you might consider. There are only two categories of dance, Smooth and Rhythm. Besides the concept of line of dance there is only one movement that separates them. That is Hip Roll, aka Delayed Weight Change, that is in all Rhythm dances and not in any Smooth dances. Within those two categories of dance there is a 6/4 Combo of Movements and Elements. The 6 Major Movements that are the basis for virtually all dance patterns are Walks, Chasse’s, Hip Roll, Breaks, Syncopated Chasse’s aka triple Steps, and finally Rocks, which are actually a part of Smooth dances not Rhythm. The 4 Elements are Frame, Momentum Control, Turning, and finally Styling. An Element is an influence that is consistent thought out a dance and the 4 Elements are used in every dance. An example of the application of the 6/4 Combo would be the similarities between Foxtrot, Waltz, and Tango. They all use Walks, Chasses or what you call side steps, but are actually two steps and Rocks which are a full weight change in opposite directions followed by a Walk. With those three Movements and the use of the 4 Elements you end up doing every possible pattern limited only by one’s imagination. Another example would be in the Rhythm category doing Swing and Cha Cha. They both use Syncopated Chasses with different alignments, Breaks and Walks all influenced by Hip Roll. Again the 4 Elements take charge of the Movements creating unlimited patterns. Loved your class, so happy someone else has figured it out that learning to dance is not about learning patterns. It’s about Movements and the influence of Elements. Happy Dancing!

I watch your videos all the time for tips! I would always say to myself "you are exactly like my instructor"! When my social dance studio closed down from Covid last year, I managed to find a new studio close by. I wasn't expecting one-on-one with the utmost professional dancer as I was only used to group dancing with my granny buddies where I think we put more social into the studio then perhaps the dancing. However, I really liked learning all the different dance styles and wanted to continue. The new studio I found is nothing like the old one. I come home and need a hot bath after these lessons. I also had to look for videos for tips and exercises, but they couldn't be just any videos, I needed to find videos where the instructor would say " posture, posture posture, you have to settle your hips, core in, rotation, you need to create a straight line"! Then when I heard in your video "a beautiful straight line" in the same exact accent as my instructor, (who is also from the Ukraine), I said to myself... these are the perfect videos! I really like learning the mechanics of the dance now even though it is a lot of hard work! However, the mechanics put the meaning, style, expression, and beauty in every step. I am grateful for finding the most passionate and experienced instructions. Thanks for all you do!
