No, generally TH-camrs have higher production values, a LOT better sound, more charisma and a decent script. This was.... just crap. Despite being interested in the car, I couldn't make it to the end of the "review".

I know. That's why I say "on a budget". Somehow, having less resources than Top Gear, he can make much better content.
I agree about the audio, but there's no shaky camera. The camera person is clearly using a rig maybe a gyro. The other camera is mounted. Nice things come in three, but this comment isn't one of them.
Audio is so very important, it basically ruins any video if done poorly and this one is no exception.
It's sad to see how far this "review" gloriously fails any professional standards. It's not only the no-budget approach, driving for a couple of hours on an American highway and calling this a review also lacks any analytical depth. The review lacks technical background as well as different driving scenarios. Instead, we get a thorough explanation of santa driving modes. Top Gear, please stop this nonsense!!!

This is Top Gear Magazine. It is a promotional clip for the magazine, which in turn spun out of the BBC television series. It has nothing to do with Top Gear on TV.
Bill, where else would you put a massive display like that lol, also heard from most tesla drivers that you get used to the odd placement.
It just doesn't seem like a natural placement to me... maybe where it has always been, right in front of the driver? They can still have a secondary display for other non essential things like climate control, radio etc.
fair, I didn't (and I guess Tesla didn't either) think of having two displays, there must be a reason that they didn't even though it is far more logical.

He mentions he would buy one but there is a 15 months to two years wait. In these entertainment reviews it's also about the feeling that the presenter is showing A T T H E. P U N C H L I N E. Also he was saying praise like it was dragged out of him. Why every tg review of Tesla cars does not mention the money you save from driving such a long range electric car with other cars in their category. Maybe because Shell sponsors them?

Don't be foolish. It isn't a tablet, you can't run apps on it or text. It shows the speed, maps, and other useful and not distracting info. It is a good, safe solution and it is sad that so many people that haven't driven in one at all (or not for more than a few minutes) feel qualified to toss out knee jerk opinions.
Dunno about other countries but here you are not only not allowed to operate your phone while driving, you are not allowed to use it if the car key is engaged (not even the motor has to be running). Meanwhile it's perfectly legal to use CBC all day long, I don't really understand the difference in terms of distraction.
Phones are not designed to be used while driving, from UI perspective. A car menu is designed to be used while driving.
12 Volts the screen is in the center of the dash board, like all screens in cars are located. The important stuff like climate settings are way up instead of many current layouts in cars.
Communicating with your phone? You mean, to start and keyless unlock? How can this interfere with your attention while driving? 🤔
12 Volts UK law is fine with that, you have a similar system build into the Jaguar i-pace as well as Model X and S. These two are on the market for a while now without any issues.
It's up to the driver to not get distracted, not by the car manufacturer.

Gordon Warlow sorry if the comments Irritated you, but the absolute frustration that goes into being so incorrect about presenting information on a car that you didn’t study at all (which is abundantly and Indisputably clear you didn’t) but pretend to be knowledgeable about it. And then try to pass it off with the presentation of accuracy is intolerable for such a prestigious series. I also feel like maybe there is some corporate backing that may have led to this. I'm old enough to remember TG before Clarkson took over. Believe it or not it used to be much more varied in review style, they covered a lot of different classes of car and motor sports. Chris Harris et al have taken it back there some and brought the knowledge whilst keeping some of the Porshe/Lambo/Ferarri variants which Clarkson saturated the show with and didn't change for years alongside the gaps for schoolboy dick-waving humour. F*ck that got old. Good riddance.

Oh look someone advertising how to use the autopilot system incorrectly. It is NOT for automatic driving, it is for driver assistance. You let it take care of the tedious lane keeping while you keep an eye on your mirrors, monitor traffic around you etc etc.
Please stop being part of the miss-representation of this system
You're right, but it's largely Tesla's fault due to marketing (naming it autopilot) and Musk advertising and even currently *selling* the fully self driving option that is probably 5-10 years out.
It's currently lane-keeping assist but I guarantee if you take a survey of the average consumer they will think it's self-driving. No excuse for Top Gear to get it wrong, but this is going to be par for the course until Tesla either delivers on FSD that they've been hyping up and selling for years, or changes their marketing tactics, or at least uses a more robust system for ensuring driver attention is set to the road.
He advertises nothing but uses an autopilot system like an autopilot system rather than a lane assist. How do you think something should be used, doesn't matter.

So what about the ''top spec car'' has the glass roof.. Did he do any reading up on the model 3? The base spec car can be specced with bigger wheels. Only thing missing out on, apart from battery/speed, is a lesser soundsystem, no rear heated seats (available though update) and foglights.

True. But the feedback is different. Screens only offer visual feedback (so far), buttons and levers offer haptic and often some kind of audio. This visual feedback requires you to take your eyes off the road which is not always what you want (e.g. when turning on hazard lights).
Marcus Octavius If you are using normal AC controls, then you know which dial does what. You can't be certain that you hit the right spot on a touch screen, since it doesn't give you the same tactile feedback of normal dials and buttons.
I do agree that some form of feedback would be nice. But you still have the steering wheel buttons, and the AC controls are pretty big buttons. You shouldn't do complicated things with the controls in any car while driving, so it doesn't worry me too much. Voice commands work fairly well with Siri and Google assistant in most modern cars and in Tesla's case with autopilot you can take a quick glance without crashing, so I'm not too worried.
It has a semi-autonomous system, which still requires you to pay full attention to the road and doesn't make you any less responsible as a driver.
Oh, would you like to explore all of these easter eggs in the menu of this giant screen while using said system?

The car more than capable to drive without the driver paying attention, it just makes the driver pay attention so that when an idiot like you crashes into it, you can't sue tesla.
And the Easter eggs aren't for the driver, it's for passengers to play with.
Mainly for kids to play with.
Back in the sixties my dad waited 3 years to get his vw beetle. Like the model 3, it was worth the wait. Wait times now for a model 3...1 to 3 months. Order up!

Amazing how Tesla/Electric cars polarise people's views! I definitely recommend spending some time behind the wheel of one BEFORE passing comment one way or the other.
I've had my share of fast big V8s and lightweight Elises so consider myself a petrol head. I've experienced the cost and mechanical fragility of complex engines/gearboxes (BMWs in particular). Having driven the original Roadster, Model S and a Nissan Leaf and talked to owners I'm sold on electric propulsion.
Instant torque which feels like being in conventional first gear but all the time, but totally controllable. No swapping cogs, waiting for turbos to spool up etc when you want to overtake - see the overtake, stab the peddle and try not to hit the car in front as it shoots forward so quickly.
I don't want a loud exhaust (anymore), as I don't really want to draw too much attention. Electric is discrete but it does make a turbine sound as you nail it.
Electric motors are used in all sorts of applications and very reliable unlike BMW V8s. Single gear so no swapping cogs, clutches etc. No unreliable ZV gearboxes.
Low centre of gravity with no engine block above the axle level - all the weight is in the floor. Which also makes them difficult to turn over. Also should you be in a crash there is no hard block of iron (front engines of course) which means you get a bigger crumple zone. Plus no highly explosive liquid in a plastic/tin tank.
Awesome traction as the power can be controlled precisely and instantly, unlike the bad latency you get with a combustion engine. Check out Drag Racing times. 2.7s to 60 in the RAIN!

Then there is obviously the carbon emissions if you care about the environment and air we breath, but that is a whole subject in itself.
I love the fact that it is continually being updated, over the air, at night for free. My current VW doesn't support my phone Bluetooth. Yes it can be updated by VW, but they want hundreds of pound to replace the infotainment unit. It feels like I'm using that Nokia when the first iPhone came out!
Just try one out as test drives are free - then make your mind up.
I don't understand your VW comment. How is your bluetooth phone not supported? By what you wrote it sounds like your head unit doesn't have bluetooth and in that case there is nothing VW can do but replace it with one that has it and is compatible.
As for the rest of the stuff. Your responses and opinions seem to be based only off of BMW engines, which you are entitled to but arguing against the combustion engine because the ones you had broke down seems unfair and slightly pointless, especially since it's not like Tesla's battery packs and motors can't be damaged or broken in any way.
In the case of a crash you don't have fuel to hurt you, instead you have a load of lithium ion batteries which can explode and burn you. In the case of a fire many fire departments struggle to help as they only have water which will result in an electrical shock (Basing this off of what Clarkson mentioned in the Grand Tour).
I've been in an electric, I've driven it around. Is it incredible? Yeah it's really cool to accelerate very quickly and having instant torque, but that's fun for a bit, and then it's just a bit of a gimmick. My main issue with electrics though is how expensive they are, how impractical they are (Maybe it's better in the UK but many countries still lack the infrastructure to support it), and just how damn ugly they are.

I’ve drove a Tesla model S60 and I did enjoy driving it especially the acceleration but the range isn’t that good and they take way to long to charge. If they could make a quick charge that took say 10 mins and I would by one in a heartbeat.

No this is not what Top Gear is nowadays, this is just a piece filmed for the website which is the companion to the magazine. TV Top Gear is much better, although this is a good in depth look at a car, which is more like Top Gear used to be pre-2001, more consumer orientated.
