    I already left a comment but i feel like leaving another comment. Wanna know my cheater secret (that I think i developed) to understanding more about my way around the fretboard? Im gonna tell you anyways.
    First I learned all my triad shapes EVERYWHERE on the fretboard. I learned it so well that I can tell you exactly what chord you're playing in a heartbeat absolutely anywhere on the spot. Then I memorized where the root noot was on each shape, (top,middle or bottom). I know that the note directly above the root is the third, and if the root is at the top then the bottom note is the third and the remaining note is the fifth. With this knowledge I was by default able to identify any note on the fretboard by name in a nano second. For me, scales and triads really were the key to understanding the guitar.

      You are totally right! So many players don’t know their way around the fretboard. You do have a great way to look at the fretboard. Enjoy your Sunday 🙏 Talk to you soon buddy 👍

    What’s great about this mindset view is you can start immediately, never get lost, know where the blue note is, the universal bend note is and defer determining which CAGED shape you are in because it jumps out at you once you move into a new 2x2 box. Then you can optionally break out side to side when suited and play that CAGED shape’s classic licks etc. This is wonderful! Now I know why I see the greats always playing on the diagonal. Hell, it’s easier. Lol.

    • @rustysguitar1
      @rustysguitar1  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      It makes things much easier to look at small groups of notes all over the fretboard. Instead of looking at an entire scale. Glad you got something from the Lesson Tim! Talk to you soon.👍

    If you see the 5 (same fret one string before the 1) you can whip off a cool 5-1-b3 arpeggio (2nd inversion triad). Lots of interesting alternative paths you can take from one box to the other on the inverse diagonal too; b3 -> 5 moving towards the upper left, once at the 5 you can choose to either move side to side to the next box or slide backwards into yet another box. So much fun. What a great way to play minor triads. I’ve been looking for a great way to METHODICALLY navigate the triads musically in all directions and I’ve found it. Thanks Rusty.

    Many times I have heard people say "well you know the key and the notes of the scale, so play something melodic"...etc etc, but it's not that easy, as you say Rusty. Structure and hearing the chord changes is crucial in my opinion to making melodic improvising sound good. Hearing the chord changes when improvising is difficult (for me), but the more I do it (and relax while doing it!), the easier it is becoming.....and it's fun too :)

    Great video as usual Rusty. Have you ever gotten into sweep arpeggios? After 32 years I decided to give those the old college try, it's actually quite a bit easier than I thought it would be, and I've seen them being used in more platforms than just heavy metal music. Neat little trick that can be thrown into the mix here and there.
    Side note, other TH-cam channels have been doing the "Shorts" videos. It's an option TH-cam has made available in attempt to compete with TicToc. I like TH-cam because i can sit down and watch a nice video for a while, people like me have a longer than 30 second attention span, this is probably how we were able to learn guitar in a proper thorough manner. If I only wanted to watch a rinky dink 30 second video I would watch TicToc.
    That being said, I'm so glad you don't put those annoying "Shorts" on TH-cam. Whenever I see those on people's channel I always scroll past em.

    • @rustysguitar1
      @rustysguitar1  ปีที่แล้ว +2

      I never did get into sweeping. But a lot of players make them sound good. It would be a good tool for sure. I do some shorts, but my main focus is the lesson videos! Good to hear you bro 😎 Thanks for checking out the video 👍

      @@rustysguitar1 I was watching a video by some luthier about repairing a guitar or something, it was a while ago. I do not remember his name or channel name but he would show little clips of himself playing guitar on a stage here and there throughout the video. Now this guy was an older fella, maybe late 60s early 70s. This guy played like swing/ rhythm and blues jazz style stuff and he used sweep arpeggios all over the place and it was all clean tone. This guy was absolutely amazing.

    4:50 did you mean to cut out the part where you say "take 37" or was it a joke? Either way, it made me laugh!

    • @rustysguitar1
      @rustysguitar1  ปีที่แล้ว +2

      I intentionally left it in there because it took me so many takes to get that little part. Maybe not 37 but quite a few. But kind of a joke also. I know other people heard it but you were the first to say something. Thanks 👍

      The F#7 is a substitute for the F#minor chord. It’s the same chords as B.B. King’s the thrill is gone. Many minor blues, progressions substitute, the minor five chord as a 7th chord. Thanks for watching 👌

    Will you do the same thing for the 4 chord?
    Then the 5? Your simple box lessons are easy to understand.
    Keep ‘em coming.

    Did you use a pedal for this particular video? Or is it just a clean strat tone? Sounds kinda lightly distorted...bb style

    • @rustysguitar1
      @rustysguitar1  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I’m using the Carr Mercury V amp set clean with some reverb. And a J Rocket Audio archer pedal. I use that pedal all the time. Thanks for checking out the video. Have a great weekend.👌
