    Question of the day: What tool do you use to cut steel? Would you like to see the Steel Demon tested on something else? What are your thoughts on the performance of this blade?

    I was a little worried about installing the blade after reading a couple of reviews. But it was amazingly easy. Took about 1 minute. Works great th-cam.com/users/postUgkxjpBI8OOeUXib_iT7UomCrQ-uauwZJ62c . Cuts easily and is perfect for pocket cuts I needed to make for replacing some old deck boards.

    Anyone want to buy a slightly used plasma cutter?! My Diablo blade will be here tomorrow, can't wait. Seeing this cut of the 3/8" plate, I can't believe I have wasted a lot of ox/acy, cut off/grinder wheels, and waited while my band saw cut steel. A lifelong carpenter, seeing it contact steel made me cringe initially, but damn it sure seems to cut great, almost too good to be true.

      the plasma cutter is going to be alot more economical if youre cutting any amount of steel over 1/8"

    • @portnuefflyer
      @portnuefflyer 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@AndrewBrowner My comment was made somewhat tongue in cheek. The plasma is NOT for sale! BUT, until I see how long the Diablo blades lasts, maybe not. Of course the D blade can't cut curves and circles like my plasma. But the plasma does use consumable tips, and takes my big shop air compressor also, whereas I can can just pick up my worm gear saw and make a quick cut. My band saw has it's place in the show also, but again, most times the D blade is quicker and simpler to use.

    As someone who steel frames for a living. I believe I have the right experience to help you with this blade. Yes it will cut heavy steal. However DO NOT use on light gauge studs and track. These blades hate vibration of any kind. There fantastic on heavier gauge metals. But, they do not like the returns and flanges on light gauge metals. I do not recommend using it on 14 gauge or thinner.

But cross cut it worked fine however the blade didn't have enough depth of cut to make it through the materials. I'm sure it will do fine on roof top tin though.

      I’ve only used it on structural 16g and never had any issues cutting the returns or flanges. But good to know about issues with lighter gauge studs. Definitely saved me a headache or 2. Good lookin out brother🤙

    • @frankvadnais3536
      @frankvadnais3536 3 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      I’ve used them on light gauge studs quite successfully for years. You just have to support your work better so that it doesn’t vibrate. You also I have to avoid letting the blade get pinched by your material. Pinching the blade will knock your teeth off quite quickly.

      Im thinking about trying this out. Have you noticed any unusual wear on your saw because of cutting steel with it? Any gouges in the table or steel dust packed up in the guard? I would like to give this a try but im curious to know if i can use it in my nice cordless that i use as my primary go-to saw or if i should relegate an old backup saw for cutting steel.

    • @jasonprox700
      @jasonprox700 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Mark Doumert, nothing unusual. I do have a plastic chute for the dust that does start to get hot on long and thick cuts. I run this on a spare saw that I’ve never been happy with anyway, so if it dies, so be it. So far everything’s been working great!

    • @MarkThomasBuilder

  • @MatanicFabrications

    I can tell you that I know for a fact you're not doing heavy cutting day in and day out with this blade. The red paint is still as vibrant as that new one where it would be rubbed and scratched from cuts done with it. I know this because I have used this blade and I know what it looks like after do 25 cuts with this blade in a day back to back to back. I also know you won't be getting more than 35 cuts on a 5800 rpm saw with this blade. Spend your money on diamond blade.

    • @MarkThomasBuilder
      @MarkThomasBuilder  ปีที่แล้ว

      That is correct, I'm doing off and on cutting with it. It's held up well for occasional use. I've also seen this blade used hard all day long and lasted only a few days, so it probably had 25-30 cuts on it before wearing out.

  • @melgross
    @melgross 4 ปีที่แล้ว +5

    I have one for my 14” saw. It works very well. I’ve made a lot of cuts with it. Even cutting some aluminum sometimes because I was too lazy to change the blade for one or two cuts, and then change it back again. But I don’t recommend that on a regular basis because the tooth shape captures the sticky aluminum, and then you have to spend time cleaning it off each tooth.
    I was wary about buying it at first because it costs half of what an Evolution or Fein stainless blade costs, which is around $135 for the 14” size.

    • @MarkThomasBuilder
      @MarkThomasBuilder  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      I didn't realize that aluminum does that. Thanks for posting.

    • @melgross
      @melgross 4 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      markthomasbuilder it’s the same problem for my mills and lathes. Aluminum is sticky. It smears and almost brazes itself to the metal. Aluminum cutting tools have a tooth shape that flings the metal off before it builds up, though some thin cutting fluid is still a good idea. Even some WD-40 works to prevent it from sticking.

    This saw blade as you see if you are not perfectly running the saw blade straight which with these blade are hard to control with a power saw can wear one side more that the other. Which after that happens, will pull to the saw blade to the sharper side. Also if the blades aren’t tensioned properly, which can happen quite a lot with mass production. The blades can collapse which create a wobble.

    Hi Mr
    I'm a subscriber and love your vids. ..
    What about this saw with table saw. .specially with the Dewalt cordless table saw?
    And I'm wondering why you don't use this blade with your flexvolt table saw?
    Also I'm trying to understand if can cut wood with nails with this blade so I'll not have to buy the 36 teeth blade? What do you think ?

    • @MarkThomasBuilder

      I think this Steel Demon is for circular saws and not table saws. You would want the Demo Demon blade for nail embedded wood.

    Best thing for cutting steel ever made.
    Combined with dewalt battery skill saw I built an entire expedition truck on a unimog. I cut I beams. I cut every piece of flatbar, steel bars, threaded rods, everything. I built a deck that slides out the side, cut all the steel box section and aluminium checker plate. Blade has seen better days but it still cuts small things, just uses alot of battery.

    • @MarkThomasBuilder
      @MarkThomasBuilder  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      That's a good question. I use it for steel and haven't looked into cutting aluminum. My recommendation is to ask the question on the Home Depot website. Diablo themselves will likely answer the question.

    • @Texsrt4
      @Texsrt4 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Don’t use a steel blade on non-ferrous materials. Molten Aluminum can adhere to the blade and cause it to go out of balance, which can be very dangerous. It will also ruin your blade.
      Similarly, steel will destroy a non-ferrous blade. Right tool for the right job

    • @travisk5589
      @travisk5589 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@Texsrt4 do you have any idea what we are talking about here? They make carbide steel saw blades that are designed to cut both non ferrous and ferrous. There is no molton aluminium to speak of.
      Do a search for frued non ferrous saw blade

    • @Texsrt4
      @Texsrt4 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Travis k do you know what ferrous and non-ferrous means? If the blade says ferrous and non-ferrous, you can use it on both materials. If it specifies one, use it on the one specified. I provided the reason why.
      And FYI, if there are sparks, the metal is molten. That’s what sparks are, superheated metal

  • @peTeMelster
    @peTeMelster ปีที่แล้ว

    I've heard that you're not supposed to cut steel (angle iron) with a miter saw or a circular saw even with a TCT (tungsten carbide tip) saw because the RPM (3000 - 5000) is too fast and generates too much heat for steel. But a cold cut chop saw spins slower around 900-1500 RPM, so that's why it's the proper tool to use for cutting steel. Is this true?

    • @MarkThomasBuilder
      @MarkThomasBuilder  ปีที่แล้ว

      I've been to a few events where the Diablo company showed their blades in a circular saw, so I'm sure they would be using them in tools rated for their blades. Their medium steel blade is rated for up to 5,800 rpms.

    • @gf2e
      @gf2e ปีที่แล้ว

      From what I’ve read elsewhere, it really depends on the number of teeth and their shape.
      I *think* that it’s easier to make a metal cutting blade if it runs slower. Diablo has to put a lot of design work into making a blade that runs fast. Your choices of fast spinning metal blades are quite limited vs slow ones.
